Greetings car fanatic!

Cheers and Gears was founded in November, 2001 by Walt Keegan with the simple premise of being a forum for GM enthusiasts by GM enthusiasts.

In the subsequent 10 years, Cheers and Gears is far more than just forums and more than just GM. We now report the news as it happens, we have sales data archives going back as far as 2005, we evaluate and review new vehicles and reminisce about old ones from all automotive brands.

The membership of Cheers and Gears is what distinguishes us from other forums. Our members have the community spirit rivaling that of model-specific owner forums and is incredibly diverse in background. They hail from all parts of the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and Australia and run a wide range of age and occupations. Their passions and contributions are expressed in member-written feature articles, vehicle reviews, and our popular car design competitions.

A large portion of our regular visitors have been with the site over five years. Our membership has purchased over 100 new or certified pre-owned vehicles while being members of the site. We share tips and advice on automotive products that work for us and those which don’t.

I purchased the website from Walt in 2009. Being privately owned and not a member of a media conglomerate, we are free to tell it like it is. The manufacturers do provide evaluation vehicles for review but all of our expenses incurred in the writing of stories is self-funded. While we are often the biggest fans, we are also the harshest critics and hold no punches when the moment calls for it.

Some of our staff writers are members of press guilds, however we are not journalists by trade. All of us work day jobs in fields other than journalism and you’ll notice this in the raw edges of our writing. We are just car guys writing for car guys and gals.
