Meh, it's alright I guess. I don't think I could get in one, so much as I would put it on. I kinda like the funky style though.

*sigh* I hate you Audi for starting this gaping mouth trend in grills.

Actually Audi did not start it that is how cars were designed for the most part for most of the early 20th century. Now I like it because
it is bold and different with a nice quality interior at a cheap price.

The new '09 Aveo5 reaffirms the brand's value position and builds on it with features expected in larger, more expensive cars - such as standard OnStar and available XM Satellite Radio - as well as its signature "tall car" design that enables surprising passenger and cargo room. It is powered by a new, fuel-sipping, 1.6L DOHC engine with variable valve timing that produces more power (107 hp / 80 kW) and strong torque (106-lb.-ft. / 143 Nm) - and has been tuned for quieter performance.

noted: the HP is +4 and the torque is -1 ...that's kinda sad, assuming the same peak rpms.

edit- says the engine was fitted with oil squirters... that should've brought the compression up a little.
this is just pre-spec griping.

Ugh. It looks like a mish-mash of different design elements that don't go well together, specially on a vehicle this size. The only good view is from the rear.

This looks better after seeing the Sequoia.

Wow, the new front end and existing body do not mix well at all. Guess we'll have to wait until the Gamma Aveo for a real entry here by GM.

When is the Gamma Aveo Scheduled for?

I don't think Daewoo have [designed] its own engine as far as I know. I think they've been using GM's engine all through this time since they have always been owned partially by GM from the day 1 of the company's birth in my knowledge(although I may be wrong). Of course, they been using the design of Europe's Opel Rekord and some other models, modified it, and sold the cars under the model name Royale series in Korea in the 80's. The Koreans are just starting to design and make their own engine just recently. Hyundai and its child company Kia is using the engines that were made my Hyundai these days which are like the only companies that are using their own engine designed in home. It's not until the late 90's(I think) that Hyundai made it's own engines. Until then, Hyundai's used the licensed Mitsubishi engine, and Kia's used the licensed Mazda engines, since by then, Kia was owned partially by Mazda. Now defunct Ssangyong(which was purchased by Chinese company) was using licensed Mercedes Benz engine, and Samsung is using the Renault engine, Proto Motors, which is the newest company in Korea speciallizing low volume sports cars are using Ford's V8. I am not so sure about Daewoo's, but I don't think it's the Daewoo made engine. I am pretty sure it's by GM.

Although I may be wrong.

They've also built updated versions of Suzuki's old F-series engines (widely built in China as well, including by GM JV partner Wuling Motors), as the S(Suzuki)-Tec II. Daewoo's Family 1 engines are of course the E-Tec II engines (E for Ecotec?), dubbed A-series. Beside the F-series and A-series engines Daewoo uses engines supplied directly by GM Holden (Family II) and GM Powertrain Europe (1.8 L Family 1); and its own engines based on the Suzuki block, dubbed B-series. The original SOHC B10 is pretty much the same as Suzuki's F10C, but the new DOHC B12 (also built by SGMW) is all-new, and will soon be joined by a new DOHC B10. The XK-series straight sixes are also pre-Daewoo, designed when Aston-boss and former Porsche engineer Ulrich Bez was running Daewoo's R&D.

You know, when the Aveo hatch first came out, I thought it was a smartly styled little car. Its only weak point, IMO was the puppydogs-and-lollipops-cute smiling front end - I thought it could be a bit more aggressive, and didn't think it fit the rest of the car.

With this restyle, the front end has gone to I-will-devour-your-soul-for-the-sake-of-fuel-economy agressiveness. It's gone way over the top on the aggressive side, and is less integrated with the rest of the car than the last nose was.

No sir, I don't like it.

One thing that I'm confussed about, with all the talk of making it quieter inside, why are they still using traditional windshield wiper blades? Couldn't they spring for some of the newer bow type that come on a lot of new GM products?

And why did they get rid of the electric throttle control?

Top row second picture clearly shows that the car's proportion is completely out of whack. They just crafted a huge frontend on, swapped the tail lamp units and called it a day.

Come on, Daewoo, you can do better than this. The sedan was a much better effort.

No, but you won't get better unless you downsize to the Yaris.

I seriously like it. Looks exactly on track what a new chevy should look like with the new Grillle/face design going on. When it comes around and I still need a vehicle, I'd consider it. Bigtime.

If that's the case, why do you think the Aveo will be any different? Your wife's Alero can get better than EPA estimates, but the Aveo can't?

And the restyled front end keeps it pertinent to the market. Too bad it is not out now, so I can replaced our toalled Corolla that some dumbsh*t rear ended last week.

What I mean is the front doesn't look as chunky. Here's the current one:

Well I guess it is a like or hate it thing... much like the final gen N-Body Skylarks...

Doesn't look bad in these Autoblog gallery photos from the show stand. It even has a junior version of the new Corvette/Impala LTZ/Cobalt Turbo split-spoke rims:

aquaboy!

To be honest, and I know I may be the only one. I prefer the current one, or even better, I prefer the original Daewoo Kalos which is the car it is based on(though they aren't much different, I like the headlight area and the grill of the Korean version here more).
