The Colorado changes are cool. I wonder if the 5.3L will really be available in '09... they said it was coming for '08, if I remember correctly. Glad to see 16" and 17" RPO rims, and the chrome and body-color trim improves things, too.

Yes, actually every single full-size SUV with the 5.3L, 6.0L, or 6.2L get it standard. The 4.8L and 4.3L continue on with the same 4L60E as is, as do a lot of trucks in general, with the 6-speed available on crew cabs.

Yes, the Colorado/Canyon were supposed to get the 5.3L for '08 and then they just said "no, next year" so it really should be here this time around, right from the get go.

The Tahoe and Silvy get the 6.2L Vortec V8 class leading HP now maybe? Tundra your toast and the Silverado will be riding your ass. I am shitting my pants today Lucerne 3900, six speed auto's in trucks and now I find the 6.2 on the option list. GM is finally figuring it out.

Anyone have a guess on horsepower in the 6.2? The Tahoe has 380 and the Denali has 403. Will the new flex fuel be any different?

No...not finally figuring it out. This has been the plan ALL along, the issue was just getting the components up to the proper capacity so they could effectively replace the HUGE number of 4-speed, etc. equipped units. It just took time to get things rolled out, and as you can see with many of the trucks STILL with the 4-speed as well as some lower Malibu trims, etc. the ramp-up still isn't complete.

Then again, there's the whole debate of why such ramp-ups weren't history long ago and these parts already here, but it is what it is.

As for the 6.2L/6-speed spreading, that's a great thing, but the real question will be the volume 5.3L/6-speed combo. It's down on power compared to some others, but also has been thought to be strangled quite a bit by the 4L60E for years, so it'll be interesting to see how it works with the 6-speed and higher rear gears in these heavy utes and trucks now. Like it or not, the Toyota 5.7L/6-speed combos is one of the sweetest out there in terms of overall polish (feel, sound, gear changes, etc.), power, AND fuel mileage...the latter of which has always perturbed me a bit with some misleading competitor advertisements and such. Maybe paper ratings it isn't as high, but real world is where it really shows.

A good example, in driveability and such, has been Edmunds (yes, Edmunds) long-term tests of both a Silverado 1500 6.0L and a Tundra Crew 5.7L. They fully admit the GM interior has a more friendly layout and attractive materials, but their Silverado's clunky and harsh transmission combined with an engine that has grunt but just doesn't fully show it cannot compare to the always silky, strong, beast of a 5.7L/6-speed that's perfectly matched in the Toyo, and good enough to make many of the editors able to ignore some of it's interior and other touches that aren't as great.

We'll see. If anything, I'm hoping the 5.3L can really come more effectively alive backed up to the 6-speed--and hopefully be more efficient and smoother in the process.

I thought the 5.3L 4L60E was a gem and great on gas. This will really help out these trucks. I wish they would have done the six speed auto on 5.3's in the Extended Cab and Regular as well. Along with a 6.2L in the extended or will that become the SS?

Like it or not, the Toyota 5.7L/6-speed combos is one of the sweetest out there in terms of overall polish (feel, sound, gear changes, etc.), power, AND fuel mileage...

Have they really had good mileage? One if my friends was going to buy one but took it back after a few days because the mileage was terrible. Another person I know with a Tunrda likes it...except for the mileage.

It will be interesting to see how the 6.2 gets rated and with the different gear ratios.

Deletions
LS models
(YC1) LS decor
2WT Chassis Cab equipment group
2LT Regular Cab equipment group
(UC6) AM/FM stereo with 6-disc CD changer
(AM6) 60/40 split bench seat in LS cloth only
4-spoke Deluxe steering wheel (urethane)
(B84) bodyside moldings on Regular and Extended Cab models
Small wheel flares
Traction control
(20U) Pace Blue exterior color
(37U) Imperial Blue Metallic exterior color
(92D) Medium Pewter cloth

Why is Traction Control a deletion? Seems odd to delete a safety feature, especially one potentially so useful on a pickup.

Nothing is great when you're talking about a full-size V8 truck, but real world driving of actual buyers has shown mileage results the same as and often better than supposedly "most efficient" competitors like the GM's--the newest models of which, Active Fuel Management and all, have generally been getting worse mileage all around than the GMT-800's averaged. Goes to show all that's printed and said isn't necessarily reality.

Read some owner reports and also even magazine reviews, and these mileage figures continue to be backed up.

If you read down further, traction control is being incorporated with the now standard Stabilitrak. ABS/traction control and Stabilitrak are really just 3 facets of the same thing.

Aren't the 900s a good bit heavier than the 800's?
