Pontiac G8: "Audi level interior"

Recommended Posts

Haha well I had a G8 GT for week this summer, and I've had various week long stints in several Audis...

The G8 interior is good, but it certainly wasn't on par with an Audi interior.

Completely true, and like I said, if anything it may be inspired design wise but not much else. Again, very much like our Chrysler LX cars where more was put into getting the whole car right, especially underneath, than extra bucks on softening and finishing up a few more interior details. I see and feel it everyday, and while some things like the glovebox door, bits of the center console & stack, etc. could be richened, the interior is still impressive, solid, has terrific seats, etc.

As for the other comments here, regarding Zeta and the story around it, I picked up a really interesting "Autobiography" book on the full story of past Holden Commodore, etc. series and then how the VE came to be from start to finish. Really, REALLY interesting to read about the debates within GM as Holden was figuring out what to do for their next gen model vs. what the rest GM, particular GMNA, felt they should do (especially regarding the 110% world disconnect where GM officials from here seriously could not understand why the new Holden sedan series couldn't just use a current Chevy sedan of ours, FWD and all, and be successful...), etc. only for Holden to eventually design what they always wanted from scratch with Zeta. Did it make everyone within GM happy? Of course not. But at the same time, the new Commodore thank god isn't a restyled Impala, G-body Buick based, etc. It isn't perfect, but it's damn good, inspired by the Sigma but more cost effective and stouter, and has made for some killer cars.

The G8 is a great car. If I was in the market for that kind of car, I would snag it up in a minute. Unfortunately with the fact that we pay more for gas in Canada than they do stateside, and insurance being more money up here, it's a bit out of the budget.

I stick to small cars for that reason. Personally, whenever I come across someone in the market for that kind of car, I recommend they at least test out a G8. Unfortunately these same people are skeptical about buying GM in the wake of their demise.

It's just one reality GM has to face sooner or later.

Fleeing? Hardly, I wanted to make sure my pension was locked in under EU rules and not US'. This gets me out of the way and safe from any reprisals from GMNA in it's last dieing gasp.

Who knows, once the dust settles, I may come back to GME either as an employee again or as a contractor making 300 dollars an hour, either way, they are options that were left open to me by a friend, after all he did come from BMW, so it's no coincidence that I am going there to be sheltered from the coming storm ...

You did what you had to do...you fled, brother.

With all due respect, there's nothing brilliant going on at GME that makes me sad about its potential demise. Part of GM's issues stem from GME's wanton inability to make mid-priced Euro-products that can be sold profitably-or worldwide without modifications that made them too expensive (see Saab, Astra) or crappy (see Catera).

Protecting the fiefdom was more important -- that's obvious.

Two things to consider as you slink away to BMW:

1. Some of us can't run...or have our pensions locked in...we have to get into the trenches and make a fight of this thing.

2. BMW is about 2 quarters away from the same problems as everyone else. Their US leasing alone will take a multi-Billion $ hit this year. They will merge or outsource enough of what they do that you shouldn't count on a long term ride there.

I've never been impressed, but your inability to simply admit a fact pisses me off. You jumped, just like most of the other rats that could...there's no other description. Your mediocrity, along with your co-workers, have contributed to the situation being so desperate, so don't expect me to call it anything else.

+1

And for all of those who are giving GME the benefit of killing Zeta. Trust me; it was MUCH MUCH more than GME (bigger factors that they can't even affect) that killed the program.

My question then is; why was GM so naive as to not see some of this stuff coming?

(BTW, I never wanted a LARGE RWD car... Merely a RWD car. So don't think I'm placing blame here)

No, no, he's going to be BMW's savior with the secret W-body plans he has smuggled to the Germans. BMW will be producing craptastic FWD appliances that are fleeted and people will buy millions of them with the huge incentives.

So glad to NOT be living in Socialist Europe. At least the US while some here seem to think Obama will create another Socialist country will still have to live the the laws. So a complete socialist system does not work and as even Europe is starting to figure out. Pure socialism does not work. Our pure capitalism does not work either and I suspect we will have a Hybrid of Capitalism and Socialist systems in the future.

Going to be an interesting next 4 years.

We don't have a pure capitalist system. Hong Kong is more pure capitalist than the US is.

Awww enzl, you're too young to be so jaded, but I guess that's what happens to people like you ... How am I running away? This deal was offered to me last year at this time, ask Camino and Z28, we talked about it then ... I have a skill they need and they were more than willing to wait until I got my 20 years in. Very nice of them I'd say. Don't be surprised if I don't just return to GME someday when it becomes independent of GM, which is what most want at GME. Who knows, maybe BMW will buy GME, that would be heaven for me ... :AH-HA_wink:

It's funny...

The people who helped kill GM through pissing matches seem to be fleeing to other companies now. Hopefully they'll take their ass backwards way of thinking with them.

Lmao! It's great to have a member on here like you that doesn't hold anything back and gives his honest opinion. :CG_all:

I'm not jaded, just calling it as I see it....

You had a better prospect (for you)and you took it.

Be honest with yourself and others on this board. You are either:

a. stupid and didn't know how bad things were at GM (last year) or,

b. Not high enough on the food chain to know anything, or

c. A liar, about a & b, since you've always held yourself out as someone in the know.

Which is it?

*I notice you didn't deny how mediocre GME has been and continues to be....at least you didn't try to deny that. You and your former cohorts are just as guilty as anyone for GM's struggles---your cars were mostly blah at best & your reputation in Europe was crappy. Proof: GM had to go to Holden and Daewoo to provide what you guy's couldn't....RWD internationally saleable vehicles and small vehicles GM could make a profit on.

At least man up and admit you and GME were epic Fails!

You live in a dream world, who do you think said last September and October that GM would be out of cash by December 31, 2008? Yep, that was me.

GME doesn't have mediocre products, if they did, why would your GMNA want Delta IIs and EP IIs for China and North America, and Australia too for that matter, after all those platforms were GME's homerooms.

Hmmmmm, looking at my electronic GME pay stub, don't see your name anywhere on it, so don't think I have to answer you, but I do it out of kindness ...

Again read my lips, this opportunity was offered to me last year, I asked to delay it a year until I had 20 years of service with GM ...

Perhaps there may even be a more important purpose for me to be at BMW at this particular time, when Opel is on the verge being free of GM, which it has desired, for a long long time ...

The GM Empire is about to be broken up, don't be to surprised when Holden and Daewoo also make a break for freedom, now is the time, when GMNA is weak ...

I'll back PCS up too. I can provide proof if needed.

I suggest we all wait 'till Monday to see how things shake out.

Let me clarify, and then pick on you....

I'm not suggesting you're lying about your offer or its timing---I'm suggesting that, if you are someone who knows something, you should have known about GM's troubles WAY before September. (There's ample proof on this website alone that I knew about GM's troubles years and years ago---and I'm Not a self-proclaimed insider...and that makes it highly disingenuous (or simply a lie) to represent your jumping to BMW has to do with anything other than GM's precarious state and YOUR self interest. It's important for YOU, not BMW, to be there now. There's nothing that BMW hasn't done without YOU. Who the F are you to BMW? They've been doing just fine without you up until now and I'm sure they'd get on just fine without your presence.

Opel couldn't have existed without the largess of GMNA and GM in general---for years brother. They've barely made money when things were good and certainly haven't been making any significant contributions to GM's bottom line --ever.

The fact that it took two generations and almost a dozen iterations to finally get Epsilons right (Malibu) and now the second Gen (which is simply re-engineered) is on par with competition is nothing to crow about. Same with Delta, except that Delta II has a huge Korean hand-print on it---please don't tell me that Opel handed its best work to Daewoo and said 'start building it'--(another potential lie).

You demonstrate the same inflated sense of your (and Opels) self-importance that simply isn't justified by the results---Ford has been making way better mainstream stuff---Fiesta, Focus & Mondeo, for years. Fiat makes better tiny cars (500, Panda) and there's been no traction getting Opel or Vauxhall upmarket---the Vectra is a euro rental car and the VXR version was a joke. Saab's an embarassment to all involved ---

With all due respect to your role...GME isn't good. Never has been. Their contribution to GM has been mediocre (generously) and you want to play that like you should get our thanks? Please.

Everything GME touches has been nothing but average or worse. Fact is that GM's GMT900's are twice the product in their category that ANY GME effort has been. Same with the 'vette. Same with Zeta.

Your false bravado given that you're just another rat successfully swimming to better pastures is astounding to me. You're right, you owe me no answers---but I can tell you what I think of your precious GME. You have no right posting anything about anyone else here, given that YOU worked for failures---you don't know who I work for or what I do---I CAN tell you that I'm slaving to save people's jobs here in the good old USA---praying that dolts like you haven't doomed myself and other hard-working people to Unemployment.

I have a skill they need and they were more than willing to wait until I got my 20 years in.

I read this a couple days ago, and didn't comment, but I have to, because I'm still trying to figure out what this skill is.

Others mention the word 'sabotage', which I didn't really think of as a skill... but I suppose it is. My other thought was 'fail'... again, not what I would think of as a skill, but after reading enough FailBlog, it apparently is. And BMW's success shows that they are low in the 'fail' department. Perhaps this is a German gov'ment requirement to even the table for the other German brands... Opel and Mercedes have definitely enough 'fail' for now.

I know your not on the assembly line... and you do not seem to be selling or marketing anything. You could be engineering or IT, but your much too social for that. HR also crossed my mind... GM has gotten good at laying people off, so someone could be a shining star there.

That leaves management and bean counters... and I don't see how that could possibly look good on any resume.

It has nothing to do with the car.

It's that corporate infighting silliness between Holden and GME that he was part of. It was GME's mission to hurt this car any way they could.

Pathetic and absurd.

Holden is the last corner of GM to know how to do things right, and the G8 proves it.

This makes PCS mad.

Does this measn PCS is no longer with GM. If so, it is about time he left and make some other people miserable with his prscence. Perhaps he is working to undermine BMW now.

Edit. PCS..go f@#k yourself, I am sick of your $h!. Enzl could not have said it any better. Go to your BMW and leave us alone. Go clutter some BMW forum instead of polluting this forum. Your time has passed...move on.
