2011 Buick Regal Turbo Manual reviews

Never thought of that. You might be right... curvy sport sedan with trim dimensions, a la 2nd gen Aurora.

And content. That's the big thing for me--size, performance, content, European athleticism...this car fills the spot vacated by the Aurora. I haven't looked at the interior dimensions (no way the trunk matches up to mine), but the performance matches up. The V8 Aurora did 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, with the V-6 clocking in at around 8.5. Now, what are the engines and 0-60 times in the Regal? Seems like an efficiency upgrade to me.

Fuel economy numbers? Aurora was rated 19/28 (V6) and 17/25 (V8). Those are the original ratings, NOT the revised ones because at least for the 3.5 they are more accurate by my experience. For comparison, the Regal and turbo (T) fuel economies are: 19/30 and 18/28 (T).

EDIT: I hope you mean trim exterior dimensions, because the interior is quite spacious.

The Regal would be more of an Aurora successor if it had an optional 3.6 instead of those turbo fours.

Just as the Verano (which I am seriously considering for my next car) has the bigger 2.4 instead of the Cruze's little engines, I just think that Buick should give the Regal bigger engines than the Malibu.

If 0-60 times are comparable, I don't care how many cylinders are banging under-hood.

CTS has the interior space of hardly much more than a 3 series.

3800 pounds and no interior room = fat pig

The CTS will turn into an even fatter pig.

Cadillac CTS 3.6 - 3,847 lbs

Audi A6 3.0 - 4,123 lbs

BMW 535i - 4,090 lbs

Infiniti M37 - 3,898 lbs

Jaguar XF - 3,924 lbs

Lexus GS350 - 3,795 lbs

MB E350 - 3,828 lbs

Essentially it is the third lightest in its group and below the average weight of 3,930 lbs.

With heavily modified or new platform boasting high strength steel, GM can keep the weight in check despite of adding more girth to it.

To me the Regal is closer to what Pontiac pretended to be for many years.

Delorean wanted to take Pontiac in a more Euro direction and never could get the full support to do so. Years later the STE and SSEI tried to be Euro but were never really in touch fully with the real Euro cars. They were good American cars but never what I would term as a car that could steal sales from any of the Euro brands.

The Regal is a real Euro car and a good one for the money. I see this car growing and becoming even better as a post BK model.

Just imagine if the G6 was this good back when it came out as the First G6. If it had it may have not been the last G6.

Seeing this car joined with Opel I suspect it will only get better and keep the real Euro feel no matter where it is built. Also if kept close to Opel they can keep the limited Manual cars and even sneek in some sport wagons as the bulk of the sales in Europe will keep them profitable ove here in limited numbers.

CTS sedan interior volume - 111.6 cu. ft.

3 Series sedan - 105 cu. ft.

5 Series sedan - 116 cu.ft.

2010 5 Series sedan - 113 cu. ft. <---- most accurate comparison, since the 5er just grew

Hardly "hardly much more." Pick another stat. :D

Granted it is the third smallest, but still comparable among the class. Average volume 99 ft3.

Again the real pig is A6, which BTW was humped to glory by Car and Driver being the best Driver's car.

The WRX Sti is actually aimed at being a performance vehicle.

eAssist is only the base engine in the Lacrosse. It will be available in the Regal, but not mandatory.

considering the ads for buick tout 'sport injected' nowadays I would say the Regal is being aimed as a performance vehicle too.

Everything is a sport sedan these days.... or that's what the marketers would have you believe. The Sonata is a sport sedan dontcha know?

No one who actually sits in a CTS will consider it a roomy car for it's size and bulk.

Agreed. I've ridden (front and back) in a first generation CTS, and 2 generations ago 5-series. The CTS was cramped in all directions (especially in back), the 5-series was not.

When did 0-60 and a 1/4 mile become the same. O-60 is one thing. 30-75 is another. Standing 1/4 mile another. All ways to point out performance. Not bad for a Buick in this day and age, not bad at all. I hope the Baby Buick does as well .....
