Your automotive Adam or Eve....

They say that when it comes to Porn, every man has an Adam or Eve, an ideal in their mind they are looking for but never finding. Perhaps the same thing could b e said of cars....whhat is your automotive Adam or Eve...the very root of your passion?

For me, it's anything roadster-ish. I say ish because cars like the S2000, solstice, Boxster, 56 T Bird, 72 vette Convertible, et al have side windows and are not truly roadsters....

But for me a pre WW II F1 car, a roadster running at Bonneville, a Solstice, a 57 vette ragtop, my Miata, a formula Ford, an IRL car, a 60's roadster at Indy, a sprint car at Eldora, winged Sprint cars at Columbus Motor Speedway, etc. Just doesn't matter...I love all roadsterish cars...and that is the root of my passion.

My earliest automotive memories involve my parents' 1966 Marina Blue Chevelle Malibu Super Sport 396 4 speed. So I guess a RWD midsize sport coupe would qualify as my Adam. Camaro, Mustang and Challenger are all pretty big relative to today's car size spectrum, so where does that leave me? Adamless I spose.

My earliest automotive memories involve my parents' 1966 Marina Blue Chevelle Malibu Super Sport 396 4 speed. So I guess a RWD midsize sport coupe would qualify as my Adam. Camaro, Mustang and Challenger are all pretty big relative to today's car size spectrum, so where does that leave me? Adamless I spose.

Midsize Gm would be close for me as well...and 66 was a good year for cars, esp. the Malibu... FANTASTIC car, BTW....

This is the bug that bit me when I was but a wee lad:

Charisma. I has it.

The later midyears might have been faster, more powerful, more masculine looking (and perhaps safer without the 3-inch strip of fiberglass in the way), but none of them can match the charm of the '63 SWC Sting Ray.

But then I discovered these:

The '67 big Block is one of my most desired Corvettes, but it HAS to be Black/Red Stinger/Red interior/sidepipes/Rallye wheels

(So this example isn't quite correct. lol)

As far as down-to-earth lust objects, I've always had a soft spot for the original Challenger, the '67-68 Cougars, '67-70 Mustangs, '69-70 Ford XLs, '69-72 LTD coupes and convertibles, '61-67 Lincoln Continentals (esp. the convertibles), '61-66 Thunderbirds, '63-67 Corvettes, '68-70 GTOs, '63-65 Rivieras, '66-67 Rivieras, '71-72 Rivieras, '67-70 Eldorados, and '66-67 Toronados...

My core attraction to automobiles is '57-64 (even tho this encompasses a distinct shift in styles). And full-size; the intermediates were 'de-engineered' from the big cars; why water things down?

But my 'Eve' would be something along the lines of these; low & long, fat-fendered, with 'food processor' detailing. It would HAVE to be unique, not production :

the actual car in my signature. i remember standing on the transmission tunnel in the first or second grade telling my grandpa how much i like this car and that i'd like to have it when i got older. badda bing. also my dads 77 vette may have had something to do with it. not the coolest vette but when you are 4 or 5 a vette is a vette. my newest obsession involves the intake manifold at my house that has 2 carter afb 4bbls on it. the intake belonged on a car my great aunt had. 1964 buick wildcat that had the super wildcat package. 425 nailhead with the dual 4's. red with a white top. turns out its a very very rare car.

...I used to own a Chevelle of that vintage...

60s and 70s muscle cars....also goes for trucks as well. Way too many to list...

1967-1972 Chevrolet or GMC, prefer GMC, would b e on my short list of vehicles to own before I die.

That 57 impersonation is godawful...there is the T-bird equal (T bird that looks like a 49 ford) that hangs out near where I work.

Black Camaro is having way to much fiun and makes me wish I was racing this weekend.

I've thought about this topic a lot... And I think I've come up with this:

Taken at surface value, they're not that impressive to most people. But when one considers what they meant to me and thousands of others, they become much more significant.

If you're a fan of 'stock car' racing now, you're not really a fan of RACING at all. Back when I was a kid, I spent some of the best nights of my life 'down on the river' watching the locals go at it in cars like this. These drivers would work late nights all week, stretch their bank accounts thin and pray that their families understood all for the sake of an unquenchable passion for speed and cars that WE ALL SHARE. It was no BS, no PR and no pretty 'show for the fans' crap; they went out there drove like hell and hoped that the stars aligned for a perfect Friday night celebration in victory lane.

The smells.... The noise.... The glare of the lights on the cars.... I guess I'm overly sentimental, but I miss the times when a working man could build an empire and achieve a dream through a passion such as this. (That's why I'm such a huge Dale Sr. fan -- the man BUILT his life through years of determination to win)

That is where the root of my passion lies and it's reflected through my love of vintage and 'unsophisticated' cars with a lot of personality... See, I'd like nothing more than to throw a big motor in a sheet metal body and race (or knock) you (out of the way) to (get to) the next stop light.

I was actually planning to build a car and start right before they closed our local track down... Now I'm thinking about doing it again (just building a street or vintage car to have some fun in) :D
