Toyota News: A Bright Future For Performance At Toyota?

The past couple of years has seen the return of performance to Toyota with the introduction of the GT86 (Scion FR-S), introduction of the F-Sport to Lexus, and rumors of the return of the Supra. But there could be more changes at Toyota to bring more performance into the fold.

Auto Express talked with Karl Schlicht, executive vice president at Toyota Europe who said the company is "Currently discussing sport lines for Toyota models”. Schlicht goes onto say there is “an appetite for Toyota to do credible performance cars”.

It is time for Toyota to set a standard for the TRD division of true sports/performance models.

I think every auto company should have a performance division to give select models a sports/performance version.

Example is CTS, CTS Sport, CTS V.

I am happy to see they are doing something, this will be good for competition.

Interesting article. Toyota has a great reputation for safe and reliable cars. I myself drive a Toyota Hybird so I would be excited for something new like this!

You have seen their ton of recalls the last 5 years surpassing GM or any other company?

They make a competitive auto, boring and conservative but they wanted GM's crown of being the biggest and right now, the quality of their auto's leaves a lot to be considered.

Far better options out there than Toyota.

I'll believe it when I actually see it in showrooms. Their cars have no soul anymore. They're still well made and reliable, but driving a Toyota is like operating a appliance like a fridge or oven. It's not fun.

The GT86 and Scion FR-S is a good start at resurrecting their once sporty image but it's going to take time and 2 or 3 additional models to put them back on the map.

Now if only Honda would follow suit.
