2014 Chevy Malibu (spotted) changes

Recommended Posts

Touched a new 2014 today. Saw two of them on the interstate one day this week also.

The new front end, in pictures does not look like it would effect much change. But in person, and seeing it in motion, it makes a huge difference in the look of the car. Well done.

Through the glass, the interior changes look nice as well. The new console has a little more of a sport sedan flavor and it is very distinct from the laid back Impala.

The narrowing of the front seats is noticeable visually inside the car for more leg room. But it still looks tight and the major flaw with seat mounts on the floor not getting fixed still seems half assed.

Didn't drive one, want to wait to try the stop/start on the 2.5. New front really looks fetching.

Checked out a 2014 LT. The seat backs loose the plastic backing and the upper knee area is sculpted in a bit so there is indeed more knee space back there. The center console is better designed for cup holders which sees the two staggered out from front to back so that your two drinks are not sitting side by side. The steering wheel looses the wood grain. The grille looks a bit awkward but I'll get used to it. The MPG has gone up to 25/36 or the same as certain eco models. Sadly the turbo stays at only 21/30 MPG but does go up to 295 torque instead of 260. Also HP and torque drop slightly on the new VVL 2.5 to 196 Hp and 187 torque from last years 2.5 which made 197 Hp and 191 torque but performance is said to improve due to transmission shifting tweaks.

that pic for some reason really hides a bunch of the clumsiness and actually makes it out to be quite fetching.

It's the color and the wheels, I guess. In profile it looks unchanged to me except for the wheels, headlights and front fascia. I never thought there was anything really wrong w/ the styling of this generation of Malibu..it's the cramped interior that is the letdown.
