Hyundai News:Rumorpile: Questionable Future For The Hyundai Veloster

Recommended Posts

The Hyundai Veloster is a departure for the Korean automaker. With a unique style and a asymmetrical door layout, the Veloster has been the black sheep when compared to other models. But a new report says the Veloster may not get a second act.

An unnamed Hyundai executive tells GoAuto.com.au that the company is currently debating whether or not to do a second-generation Veloster.

“It still has not been decided. There is still debate as to whether it will happen.”

Last year, the Veloster sold 60,000 units worldwide. Over half of those were delivered to North America where the model experienced a decline.

The Veloster is expected to get a mid-cycle refresh in the near-future. What comes after that is anyones guess.

This car while popular on Asian Drama shows really has limited appeal in my opinion. It has large blind spots and is really only a 2 person sports car. If it can be done as a profitable model, then I would for sure keep it as a Halo kind of car for them. It does set them apart from the rest of the makers.

I think every auto maker needs a unique auto in their lineup that people buy in lower quantities. Not every auto can be a mass produced and sold to everyone auto.

It sells more than other small halo cars like the 370 Z, Miata, Boxster et al.  However, its pretty much a less than stellar automobile in my opinion. I will not miss it if it goes.

I understand the Elantra coupe is not coming back for the 2015 model year.  Those of us who support any maker with an affordable coupe are outnumbered.

You would have bought it then to extend the support. :P

I have a coworker that bought a Veloster to replace his older Sonata when it got totaled.  Interesting little car, rode in it a couple times..very limited rear head room, though, with the extreme rear window slope..

The Volvo C30 was orders of magnitude a better car, however it came out right as the economy tanked and as such never caught on.

...and the C30 could also fit two adults in back in comfort.
