Vibrating wheel

Recommended Posts

What else can I do?  The Toronado has a bad wheel vibration between 55mph and 65mph.  I've already had the tires rebalanced multiple times at different places. I've replaced the steel wheels on the front and had them rebalanced again.  The ball joints have less than 3k miles on them.   What am I missing?

It could be a defect in the actual tire itself. I know at Discount Tire, they can actually tell you if the tire is really off or if the rim is damaged so they have a harder time balancing the wheel.

At the same time, it might not be the Wheel or ball joints but a bad shock or a bad steering box if you are feeling it in the steering wheel. I have had to deal with those issues.

A new car. LOL.

Check the tie rods, my car had the same issue a year ago, found out it was the tie-rod. Also breaks can cause the problem.

Have you seen the 2015 Toronados?!  They are to die for!

I'll take a look and have it checked.

The shocks are relatively new... I did them the first year I owned the car. I've only put 12,000 miles on it in 3 years.

Yes they are wonderful. However, I did not say new Toronado, just a new car.

probably early next year.  our mortgage is dropping by $300 a month in december plus we're getting a refund check for $1700.

I have a new car already :P  the Buick is primarily mine now... I kicked Albert back into the CR-V.

Knowing what you've replaced, I would say bearings or tie rod ends.

I would also move the front tires to the back a bit to see if the problem moves.  Sure, they may be new and balanced, but I always seems like tire/wheel issues... especially if they use cheap weights that fly off when you hit a bump.

I would then eyeball the control arm bushings and CVs... maybe engine/tranny mounts, as well.  Look at subframe bushings.  Another reason I dislike FWD... sometimes hard to tell drivetrain vibrations from front suspension ones.

Transmission mounts have been replaced in the last 18 months.  Engine mounts are fine. Body some body mounts are also new.   I don't have a sub-frame, this is a full frame/body on frame vehicle. Both front and rear bumpers mount to the same pieces of metal.

I may have a friend follow along with me on the phone and watch for a specific tire that is vibrating, and then move it to see if the vibration follows.

Nice... I always liked that purplish color (I forget the name).  I'd still take my Toro black, though... with 'High Toned Son Of A Bitch" on the back... and 'Dark Half' vanity plates... ;-)

Love the SK references. That particular car was a one of one with a manual trans...
