MT Insider: Yes, the LS7 IS Going Into an Alpha!...

Recommended Posts

...but it won't be a Cadillac ATS-V Plus. They're insisting it is Camaro-bound, and probably with some updates (full LT-spec? Who knows). I'd provide a link but it's just in their latest edition right now.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. A continuation Z/28 with lighter weight. Still, would be nice to see a wet-sump LT4 under the hood as well. Ah well, we shall see :)

Cadillac is moving ahead with its own engines. That is a necessity in there segment for the artificial facade and image of exclusivity. Personally I think it is silly, but unfortunately the superficial silliness of the domestic car haters will not ever give the Small-Block legitimacy in a luxury car.

Is there any other vehicle that the General would want to build on Alpha, such as a X3/Q5/GLC competitor?

Supposed to be coming. The "under XT5", possibly XT3 will most likely go on Alpha. I can also see the need for a few others when the new CTS debuts as the CT4 or 5 as it may just move over to Omega.

Sad but true, I suspect. To be honest I'm a bit surprised MT is holding so tightly to this rumour. Have you heard anything about a 7.0DI elsewhere? Or even just a freshening?

No. If the LS7 or upgraded 7.0L DI comes to play it would a sweet deal. I could see from DI a bump in HP of about 13% or 565HP. It would be done in response to the new Flat Plane Crank coming out in the GT350. It would be a an effective too too because NA is always a wet dream maker for enthusiasts.

A 13% jump would be nice. If it's the 5.2 they're going after though, they should attack its weakest point: the torque. If GM could put the redline at, say, 7,500rpm and hold the line on peak torque (470-ish) then they'd have the trump card, especially with the lower C of G and better starting point for the platform.

That 7.0 liter is old news. Time to do something else, although I like the idea of the top Camaro being the base Corvette engine. If they want a Hellcat competitor they could supercharge the 7 liter V8 to make 700 HP but then a Camaro would have more than a Corvette.

Uh... That's already totally happened with the Z/28 and ZL1. What's your point?

Not only that... The Camaro doesn't even need hellcat numbers to beat a hellcat Challenger or Charger. Its lighter by a country mile. Hell the CTSV has 67 Less HP weighs in similar to the Dodge and is now been clocked as beating it in every metric.
