    Regal GS

It's one of two things... The earliest rumors (I think from Lutz when the standard Regal was initially discussed) was that there could be a high performance version with a 280hp V-6. Not sure if this was or was not ever planned as the LaCrosse CXS 3.6 litre which makes 280hp. So your message may relate to some old legacy of something once planned. The second possibility is that, while the GS show car was said to receive a 255hp motor if it went to production, we've subsequently heard rumors that that number could or would be bumped up a bit. A bump from 255 to 280 sounds reasonable. (I don't expect 300hp.) Combined with above-mentioned expectation that the new Cobalt may come in at 280hp, your message may relate to something concrete about the hp numbers now planned for the GS.
  2. Is that so? I didn't realize this was the case. But, leaving that aside, pricing does look solid. To me, this and the G8 coming to market initially at just under 30 have been two of the best values on the market (in very different ways obviously - they are quite different cars). Apparently GM must be making little to nothing on these first year Regals given previous references to the poor exchange rates. I think it was also said that production would therefore be limited for the first year which also means that presumably folks won't be able to get these under sticker. With Regal topping out at 29,5 it gives me hope the GS would come in at 34,5. My hopes were that it would indeed hit below 35 rather than come in at high-30's. I am not wealthy so any new car even at low to mid 30's is a stretch sadly but high 30's is basically out of the question.
  3. Interior better than expected, exterior a little underwhelming compared to my expectations, engine and drivetrain about equal to expectations and not stunning but probably about right for what this is trying to be. As regards size I can understand that if this is to replace both STS and DTS it makes some sense to find a sweet spot in there but nonetheless it'll be a little odd when one cannot get a truly large sized Caddy - that not only the Lincoln but also the Mercedes are longer. In terms of practical interior room however it is probably quite good. I can't help also wishing one could find at least one big American sedan with more traditional profile and appearance with a long hood and deck and overhangs and more upright glass. I think even something based on Zeta would have given some of those virtues like a longer hood. So far I guess I have mixed feelings and this isn't compellingly better to me than the very nice Lacrosse. I wonder what the price premium will be. I wonder what sorts of deals will be available for the DTS, STS, and Lucernes that are left on lots after production peters out...
  4. Hello, all- Great site here - I check it often. I think I may have violated the protocol by posting in a thread before posting in here - apologies. (I was so jazzed about the Regal GS concept I hopped onto that thread too soon!) I previously owned a lowly W-body Monte SS (3.8 Series II) and quite liked it but sadly traded it for an SUV for my wife and being the great guy I am I took her old car (a dilapidated base level 2000 VW Golf with 130K miles). Needless to say this has encouraged much thinking and dreaming of what I will replace this hand-me-down with. G8 GT? New or used CTS? LaCrosse or Regal? Used STS? Lucerne Super? Silverado? Challenger R/T? If finances don't materialize as I'd wish, I'd even dig a Bonneville SSEI, Aurora, Riviera, heck maybe even some older Panther-based car if I could convince myself I'd get semi reasonable reliability from any of these. I am sad about GM's finances and about the role of the administration and don't pretend to understand it all but it is exciting at least to see some of the newer GM product lately such as the Lacrosse and Regal and I eagerly await such things as the new XTS, perhaps a some day Impala replacement, and numerous possibilities. Thanks for 'listening'!
