Mercedes-Benz Unveils the Vision EQS Concept

The trailblazer for the EQ Family...

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision EQS Concept today in Frankfurt. The Vision EQS represents the future of luxurious driving.

Powering the Vision EQS is a dual motor system with continuous all wheel drive with approximately 469 horsepower and with about 560 lbs.-ft of torque. The juice for all that power comes from an approximately 100 kWh battery.  The top speed is estimated at 124 mph and 0 to 60 will happen in less than four and a half seconds.  The Vision EQS is capable of DC fast charging up to 350 KW. Range is estimated at around 435 on the WLTP rating cycle.

The interior of the EQS is intended to remind passengers of the deck of a boat, taking its inspiration from luxury yachts. The interior uses a portion of recycled plastic reclaimed from ocean waste. The wood is Maple from ecologically managed forests in Germany.  By using wood from Germany, it ensures a short transportation distance to reduce the CO2 output of the assembly process.

The S-class is the most successful full size luxury car the past 40 years.  Why would they change it?  The 7-series and A8 aren't EV only.  All S-classes will be mild hybrids at least, and that is more than a lot of other luxo barges can claim.

EQ S also has nothing to do with an S-class.  Different platforms.

“Most successful” but routinely outsold by said Tesla S over the last year or two.

GM's latest update and a rewrite of their carbon neutral goals has them achieving this in the 2020's time frame compared to 20 years later for MB. Seems MB is not the Best or Nothing, more nothing.

    https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2017/06/30/gm-sustainability-goals/103331390/

While Ford has not set Carbon Neutral goals, they did set reductions of 30% and achieved it 8 years early.

Here is the current update on GMs sustainability report which shows them making great progress.

    https://www.gmsustainability.com/manage/products.html

GM’s report shows plenty of CO2 output in 2025.  When will GM have a 100% EV lineup, with 100% of factories that are powered by wind and Solar power?  And if they can pull that off before Daimler then great, that is less pollution.

What about the extraction process for all of these batteries? Isn't that the worst part of the process?

    In short... no.

The extraction process for lithium happens in some of the deadest places on earth. Salt flats.

The current generation Toyota Mirai has never been a "looker". It seemed like some sort of Prius with a glandular problem.  Toyota hopes to change that and make the fuel cell vehicle sexy with the new 2021 Toyota Mirai Sedan Concept.
The new concept sits on a rear-wheel drive platform and sports an new, more powerful fuel cell powertrain.  Toyota claims a 30-percent increase in driving range with increased hydrogen capacity.
Most importantly thought, Toyota un-weirded the Mirai so that it now looks like something that might sit in a Lexus showroom rather than Toyota.
The next generation Toyota Mirai will go on sale in late 2020.

Back on June 7th, Mercedes-AMG unveiled their newest 4-cylinder engine, and their most powerful.  Producing 416 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft of torque in the S Version, it is currently the most powerful 4-cylinder engine currently in production.  AMG is also making a base version with 382 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft of torque, both in transverse applications. Initially, this engine will debut in the Mercede A45 S AMG and Mercedes CLA 45 S AMG.  According to AMG head, Tobias Moers, expect to see use of this engine expand to other product lines.
According the Moers, the engine was designed from the start to be able to be mounted as longitudinal engines.  So while it probably won't become a C45 or E45, it could become the standard engine in the C43 or E53.  It is also capable of accepting electrification making for an even more powerful option.
This strategy of combining a small displacement 4-cylinder with electrification could contribute to Mercedes' strategy of stopping development of new internal combustion engine families.

    • Love the Tour de Costco lunch. I have no guilt over it, after all they are there for you to sample and see if you like it. Nothing about purchasing now, but you might in the future. Love when the Aidells Sausage bazaar comes to town. https://www.aidells.com/products?cid=aidells:ps:psl:ms:43034:2817&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Brand_Core_Exact_ADL&utm_term=adells sausage&utm_content=Misspellings&gclid=CKTVlqfwruUCFQbZDQod_bYKDw&gclsrc=ds Love the costco special edition of Chicken sausage with Mushroom and mozzarella.  😋
    • Houston can be cool, as in likable.  At least it's a major Texan city near a large body of water.  I know summers there can be ridiculously hot.  Enjoy. Man, I don't think the ladies with their hair in hair nets at Costco like folks who, once they catch on, are doing the "Tour de Costco" lunch.  "I'm in the tire shop." "I came to look around to see if there are any specials on clothing." Blah, blah, blah. Have you ever done that?  Sometimes, when traveling or commuting, you're driving down a freeway, it's about feeding time, and, there, like a mirage, a Costco appears.  For what I pay for my annual membership, I don't buy much, so WTH.  Then, if I do the "Tour de Costco," I might have some pangs of guilt, so I head to "Cafe 1.50" and get their hot dog (with sauerkraut) and a soft drink.
