Ford EcoSport To Make North America Debut At LA

The EcoSport will be making its North American debut next week

Ford will be debuting the redesigned EcoSport subcompact crossover next week in Los Angeles. This information was revealed by rapper DJ Khaled last night on Snapchat who would be helping out with the introduction.

“Monday I’m introducing the Ford EcoSport. It’s going to be a world premiere with the new Ford EcoSport,” said Khaled in the video.

A Ford spokeman comfirmed to Automotive News that they would be showing the EcoSport next week, but didn't say anything about a possible sales date.

The EcoSport is Ford's entrant in the growing subcompact crossover class. The crossover has been sold around the world since the introduction of the second-generation model back in 2013. Former CEO Alan Mulally said that the EcoSport would eventually come to the U.S.

Jeez.. about time the US get this. It isn't for me but people love their CUVs and not having a itsy-bitsy one has to be hurting Ford a little.

Honestly, the only thing that looks appealing on that is the Raptor-esque grill. The wheels are ugly and almost look too small for a reasonable brake package. The graphic is awful..

Too small for me, but I see this class selling well.  So smart move by Ford.

What engine/trans combo would we be looking at here? I assume the 1.5T would be somewhere but there are usually 2 engine choices... the 1.0T..? I know this is small but is the 1.0T enough for the much less aero-slippery EcoSport?

Well I am glad to hear this.  I am sure this new one will have a spare under the load floor instead of on the liftgate.  I am interested in seeing the new Fiesta and this Ecosport.

It kinda does...  I wonder if it will have a couple of tiny Ecoboosts, or a larger, NA 4, as this new European trend indicates.  Ford might be the holdout, after all the money spent on EB.  Maybe the 1.5 EB, as has been said.

The minor changes up front really make it look so much better than the Euro version.

My impression was that this would be a global change... so the Euro version would be updated to look like this also.

That would make sense. I guess I should have worded it, " it looks so much better than the previous version" instead.

It's pretty crazy how it looks almost exactly like a baby Escape to me. I know the whole corporate family thing but still..

I think this cute CUV thing is so overplayed, I think it's an ugly little runt, and it's playmates in the sandbox are all whelps too.

yeah, the small SUV thing is getting on my nerves actually.  Love the Encore though.

    But it's what people want...

Here's the deal though... I'm wondering if it will be a fad that wears off after a generation or two.  I'm 3 years into my Encore, it is a great little car, but even just a year into it we started realizing that we might have downsized too far.  We're absolutely moving up in size when it comes time for a replacement, though if I get the truck I want, the Encore may be replaced with a mid-size sedan instead.

I was looking at a '17 Trax LS AWD this afternoon on the local lot.  I actually thought I would need a Premiere, but there is so much stuff on the base model, except FOG LIGHTS of course, that a set of 16" black wheels and moderately knobby tires one size wider (215/70R16) would be fine I think.  $23k.  I'm thinking a single dude like myself with no cat... it would be fine, plus I like the fold flat front seat for extra long and girthy things.  If there is no GM Accessory foglamp kit, I am sure it is pre-wired for it, I would need the dash switch and the lamps and bezels at employee price.

I showed my daughter the EcoSport pic, and she likes it.

    'Hallelujah'!!!

We may have finally agreed on a vehicle together for her grad gift (she does not know when she will get it though).  She thinks it's 'cute.'  With AWD it could be a better option than what she has been asking for.

Dare I say you might want to stick with the truck here?  I just test drove a Trax, and while it is kinda nice, my old 93 Cavalier wagon felt bigger than this thing. One good thing that it does have going for it is that it is nice to be higher off the ground. You might change your mind after a few Lowes runs in it....I'm not even sure how it would do for camping..

It's one of the reasons I will not go smaller than the Nox/Escape in size, because you can still do more in it. These still remind me of my ol' s 10's size, still useful, but handles better than the big ones. Pretty sure I could get better use of a cruze sedan cub scout camping than a Trax....

Besides, if small cars continue to stay down for a while, you might even be able to add something like a sonic to your fleet for everyday driving.....8)

I get what you're saying.  I had a '92 Golf, two '98 Beetles, an '00 GTI, '03 ION coupe, '09 Cobalt coupe, '11 Fiesta, '12 Cruze and '13 TDi Beetle, so I do have history with small cars.  Of course it was nice loading up an old chair and my 19 year old super heavy TV that got burned out in a storm to the dump in one trip, no problem.  If I could swing two vehicles, it would be the best solution.

Well, actually I will say the outgoing version of the EcoSport also looks terrible in manufacturer provided photos, but looked far better in photos taken by the press.

And the only good looker in terms of all-around styling in this segment is the Mazda CX-3, which provides good looks and the best driving in exchange for a total lack of practicality, and a steep price relative to the competition.

There is nothing in the segment I like. But the CX-3 is popular around here.

Methinks pay off the Colorado, take a card from intrepidations play book, and keep it forever.

    • WOW, that is crazy, wonder what happened the first time as that was a hard bounce. Need a full inspection on that plane after that hit.
    • Usually one does not pull out a desktop HD to transport it but packs and moves the whole desktop computer. If you are wanting to remove the HD to transport it, you need to ensure it is in an Anti-static bag to prevent electrical discharge that can scramble the data in worse case scenario. Depending on size HD can weight from just a couple of OZ to 1lb.  Question for you, are you just thinking of putting these HD into a new computer or just taking them over separate from the existing desktop system and installing them back in again? If your just thinking of transporting the desktop I would recommend keeping the drive in the desktop and packing the whole unit securely in a box with packing material for protection. If your wanting the data on the drives, I would recommend buying a proper USB drive, copy all the data off the drives and then you can wipe the drives and donate the computers to Goodwill for a tax write off.
    • The site clean-ups on C&G have been nice and look cleaner. In the process, it appears they even purged that one warning point I got for some heavy handed arguing with ocnblu back in 2009.
    • This was on my homepage.   This is possibly the weirdest go-around I've seen on video.  It was Lufthansa's big bird (latest version) at LAX.  (Leave the sound on) https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/moment-lufthansa-plane-s-touch-and-go-landing-caught-on-live-stream/vi-AA1nysOo?ocid=socialshare I was on one major go-around about 20 years and, it too, was on an older Lufthansa 747 going from Munich to SFO to connect up to Portland. He was still some 200 feet off the ground when he announced it, the engines started purring strongly, the plane started climbing, and the go around from my window showed San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, then on down south next to Stanford, and then back up over San Francisco Bay to land.
    • Tech help needed prior to going in to Office Depot or other store to inquire ... or conducting research and spinning my wheels: I have 2 HP Pavilion desktops ... one is circa 2019 and the other is circa 2009, and it still works.  They are boxed up. Questions: 1.  If I needed to get hard drive carrying cases, how does one go about sizing the one they should buy? 2. I have never seen one before, but I'm assuming the construction of the case is thick and tough enough to protect the hard drive, yes? 3.  How much do hard drives in typical household HP Pavilions weigh and are they easy to remove so they can be transported? THANK YOU!
