    Cadillac Dangles $5,000 to Lincoln Owners to Get Into An Escalade

      Can Cadillac tempt Lincoln owners into an Escalade?

    With Lincoln beginning to roll out an all-new Navigator, Cadillac is trying to sway current Lincoln owners with a new offer on the Escalade.

    Bloomberg obtained a memo sent to dealers that reveals a $5,000 discount on the Escalade for any owner of a Lincoln model from 1999 to the current model year. GM spokesman Jim Cain confirmed the authenticity of the memo.

    This beginning of an offensive by Cadillac to keep the Escalade ahead of the new Navigator. Ford is also rolling out a new Expedition which is expected to steal some of the huge market share GM currently has in the segment.

    The deal is available if you decide to lease or purchase a new Escalade, and can be combined with other offers.

    “I don’t know that this will hurt their launch. But it is a way for Lincoln customers to step up into something more meaningfully luxurious,” said Cain.

    Throwing some shade at Lincoln might not be the wisest idea. At the moment, a redesign for the Escalade isn't expected till 2020. Plus, we think the Navigator blows the Escalade out of the water when it comes to the interior. We can't say which one is the better driving model till we get some drive time in both.

    Ram 1500's that are 4X4 with the 3.6. 3.21 gears are only rated to tow 4650 with the quad cab. 

    F150 with the base 3.3,, 4x4, 3.55 gears, and largest cab is only rated at 5000lbs. 

    The lowest number I could configure the Silverado down to was 6000lbs

    All of which are probably difficult to find on a lot because I'd assume a work level truck has the trailer tow package that won't have the granny tall gears that drastically drops all of these down to the levels I looked up.

    Nope. I'm pretty sure 7600 or 7700lbs. The non-diesel I think is 7000lbs.

    True, but of course they could have properly leveled it out by adding 3rd party airbags to help with the load.

    Have to scan it in but my sister and her exhusband used to drive a fully loaded Buick Roadmaster Station wagon pulling a large boat. Another of GM's awesome rides that could handle the same load as that cadillac car.

    I do like the exterior styling of the Escalade in this current generation. I was not really enamored with it before. The interior isn't bad either, in fact I would rather it above average.

    There are things about the new Navigator I have really been impressed with from an exterior perspective and some others I want to see in person before passing final judgement. The interior is the best thing I have seen in a large SUV. Period.

    When any competitor names their rival by name and backs it up with paying money to limit sales loss it is a huge compliment to that product. 

    So, I would assume the Navigator is all that and the proverbial bad of chips!

    Even though I think sometimes too much boat is pulled with them.

    That Escalade is way overloaded. It can tow, but that is too much tongue weight.

    The 7000 lb V4P package was unique to the Fleetwood.  The V92 B-cars were rated at 5000 lbs.

    Right- we're maybe just seeing the leading edge of windshield of that boat; who knows how much farther rearward the trailer wheels are.

    It is amazing the amount of towing capabilities we put on cars compared to the CUV / SUVs of today.

    I have to ask..... i sense there is some antipathy towards the modern Fords ( LOL).... it would make me think there may have been a clunker or two Blue Ovals in your past?  Either that or a Transit van up and insulted your Mom or something....?

    Damned if I know...I love the vintage blue oval stuff.  I just try to be honest with myself and deal with what I feel.

    We have had several Fords lately as rentals and they have performed flawlessly.

    Haha, yeah sometimes it is just a 'thing' we have for a product or brand.  It took me a long time (decades) to get over my anti GM bias. I still do not favor a GM over a Ford model, but I can appreciate the vehicles they make now.   

    Except for Camaros! They will always be crap!  (At least in comparison to the almighty Mustang)..….... hahahahahaha

    My favorite car was a 66 Mustang fastback 289 4 speed, Wimbledon white, not a spot of rust on her.

    I would give my eye teeth for a 68 Mustang California Special...or a 69 Fastback...or a 70 Boss 302. Calypso Coral or Grabber Green on the 70 Boss 302...gold was a signature color in 69 for the Mustang. make that one a GT (last year for the early year GT cars, and fairly rare) with gold paint and a black interior.

    Modern cars...of all of the cars on the planet the only two that actually excite me as modern cars to own are the GTI/Golf R and WRX/STI.  Everything else leaves me pretty cold as an ownership proposition.

    In terms of fandom, I really like Audi and Porsche...but I am a blue collar guy so I would look silly driving either of them.

    Only GM car I could see myself pulling the actual trigger on is the Bolt...only car I could see buying from Ford would be the Focus ST.

    Only chryco product I could see spending my own money on is the Renegade with a Trailhawk package.

    ....hate to say it but I think given the choice of Camaro, Mustang or Challenger I would take the Challenger.  At least today...ask me tomorrow and my answer would change.

    I know there will be a new Escalade coming soon, but realistically, they could give the current one an exterior visual refresh and a substantial interior refresh and keep it on the market a while longer. The powertrain is still more than competitive, especially now with the 10-speed.

    I have only had two fords in my life, 1969 Camper Special that I inherited and loved till the day I sold it as my career took off and I had to relocate to california and was not going to take the truck and camper and my 1991 Ford Escort GT  that I bought new. Loved that Mazda Built Pocket Rocket. Was great till the Wife got rearended in it and it was totaled. But other than her neck injury, she was over all safe and uninjured. Since then every time I have tried to buy a ford, the sales people and poor quality have pushed me away.

    I would totally do this and focus on releasing an AWD Escalade EV that could put a line in the sand much with how Chevy did with the Bolt!

      The two big things you need to know are How Acidic and how well it drains or not. I took a class last year on how to grow the American Chestnut. American Chestnuts like to be high on hilltops with very well-drained soils. There's a geomapping tool in Pennsylvania that uses known land and altitude data to populate the best places for Chestnut plantings, and my property is one of the best in the county.  What I used was a mix of planter soil and something called Pittmoss, better than Peatmoss. Its manufactured here and is mostly recycled newspaper. It's good for containers because it holds moisture better than peat.  Just put them in some 5-gallon buckets and let them go.  I need to move them around a bit soon. True genetic American Chestnuts are very hard to find. If you find them online, they are most likely crossbred with something else that is blight-resistant. I got my seeds directly from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation at one of their research centers at Penn State.

      My wife gets starter trees for landscaping, and we use 5-gallon plant buckets that have the holes already, but you could use a normal 5-gallon bucket and drill some holes and put it in a planter plate to hold water to help with feeding. We always just use miracle grow soil and the trees are doing really well. We have a bunch of Leyland Cypress trees to be planted once I finish the yard retaining wall and new fence.

      Speaking of growing trees in buckets/pots, did you over-research what type of potting soil/media to use? I think I'm going down a wormhole of too much information and overthinking.  What did you end up using?
