Cadillac Lays More Money On the Escalade's Hood

Trying to prevent customers from defecting to the Lincoln Navigator

There's a war going on between Cadillac and Lincoln. With the new Navigator, Lincoln has a very compelling alternative to Cadillac's aging Escalade. But Cadillac is fighting back by dumping a bunch of cash on the hood.

Bloomberg obtained a memo sent to Cadillac dealers that announces a new promotion where current lease customers of 2016 Escalades are being offered a $10,000 discount on a new Escalade. Owners of 2016 Escalades have to make do with a $7,500 discount. The promotion runs until the end of May. GM Spokesman Jim Cain confirmed the promotion to Bloomberg.

This isn't the first time Cadillac has put a huge amount of money onto the hood of the Escalade. Back in November, Cadillac was offering owners of Lincoln models from 1999 to the current model year a $5,000 discount on an Escalade.

Cadillac still holds a significant edge over the Navigator in terms of sales - 8,111 Escalades vs. 4,062 Navigators through March. But Lincoln is gaining ground with Navigators only sitting on dealer lots 10 days on average.

“GM is trying to keep Escalade buyers out of Navigators, for sure. You’ve got a fresh Navigator and you’ve got an Escalade that is not new and is starting to age,” said Jeff Schuster, an analyst at LMC Automotive.

“This is a particular battle that GM doesn’t want to lose ground in. It speaks to the importance of the Escalade.”

    One word: Unimog!

Okay Okay Okay it isn't a standard full size truck but hell if it isn't the best in the world at being versatile/flexible and doing truck things.

    Would agree with you! :P

I still think M-B should sell the pickup versions of the Sprinter here--in regular and double cab, in work truck, luxury, and AMG variations...would be a cash cow, I think.. make the bed deeper and less homely looking, though.

How many different leagues or classes does Mercedes even race in?

I love Mercedes but my god are you oblivious.

I guess ignorance is bliss though so...🤷‍♂️

I think just Formula 1 now and next year they are doing Formula E.  I think they gave up all the touring car racing stuff to focus on EV racing.  But Formula 1 is the #1 Motorsport globally so that is where to be.

Then they aren't the golden standard of racing if they only have their toes in one league of racing when there are hundreds out there.

Formula 1 is the biggest money pit and, I could be wrong, I believe their ratings have been declining for the past decade as the sport blows to watch. I love the technology and the sheer speed of those cars but it is the least entertaining form of automobile racing out there.

Want to know the finishing order of every race? Just watch the qualifying session. Heck, just watch Q3 and watch laps 1-3 and that's all the entertainment the sport offers.

I still watch F1, but some races are so dull...esp. these new generic tracks and lack of overtaking. .Not as dramatic as it was to watch in the 80s-90s.

    It's a great time to be a fan of F1.. 🤣

Yup, steady decline in viewership for the past decade.

    Forbes link for graph.

Diminishing Returns and NOT the Global Standard to be in!

Yes after the 90's the excitement and fun of watching the race went in the toilet.

When was the last time somebody overtook somebody during the race and not during a pit stop? Probably around year 2005.

So true, could have been the end of the 90's in reality.

    • I have to say that I am very excited by this potential competitor to the Cadillac EscaladeIQ. Both Full size Luxury SUVs. Interiors Yes I know the Genesis is a concept and the suicide doors and flip chairs will not make it to production, but I do hope those chair designs do as they look very comfy and supportive. I have to say that I really like the exterior styling of the Genesis even more than the Escalade.
    • Yeah, it doesn't seem super space efficient.
    • So three major problems with this car, one, terrible Jellybean external shape, not impressed at all with the style. Second is the buttonless dash having everything via a touch screen and rotary knob, terrible safety issue as your eyes will be off the road more than on trying to find the right option in the right menu. Third is the center pack clearly cuts into valuable leg space based on their own picture. This is a hard pass.
    • Great Masculine shape, really digging the style they did here.
    • First seen at the Shanghai Auto Show (see article: Polestar 4 - The New Breed of Electric SUV Coupe), Polestar brought the Polestar 4 to the New York International Auto Show for North Americans to see in person. Polestar calls the Polestar 4 an "electric SUV 4-door coupe". Outside of that marketing speak, the Polestar 4 is a slightly lifted four-door hatchback about 190 inches in length, or roughly 2 inches shorter than a Toyota Camry.  Built without rear glass, the Polestar 4 makes use of a rear camera for visibility astern. Polestar 4 features a plethora of standard content, including 20-inch 5 V-spoke black diamond cut alloy wheels, panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control, 360 parking camera with 3D view, energy saving heat pump, front-illuminated Polestar logo, e-latch doors, power-operated tailgate with soft close, Polestar digital key, wireless phone charging, and 8-way electrical driver seat and 6-way electrical passenger seat. The fastest production car the brand has ever developed to date, Polestar 4 can accomplish a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds and in top spec can produce 544 horsepower. Long-range single-motor variants have 272 horsepower and a targeted EPA range of over 300 miles. All long range variants have a 102 kWh battery capable of 200 kW charging on a DC Fast Charger and 11 kW on home level-2 charging. Google built-in is ... built in and includes Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play. Polestar continues to offer a leading connected in-car experience. As with all other Polestar cars, regular over-the-air updates allow for new features and improvements to be sent remotely to all vehicles. Pricing starts at $54,900, with orders opening in April for deliveries in the latter half of this year.   View full article
