  1. Mercedes is going a bit overboard with the number of AMG models it offers. At the moment, you have a choice of 38 models that have gone through the AMG treatment. But Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG says more are coming. "We're going to expand our portfolio to 48 different models by the end of the year," Moers told Automotive News. The obvious question is 'WHY?' It comes down to growth. Sales of AMG models rose 40 percent to 68,875 vehicles. This is most likely due to the introduction of less-expensive models such as the CLA45 and GLA45. We wouldn't be surprised if there are '43' models such as the C43 Coupe and E43 that are part of these expansion plan…

  2. We have seen the A-Class hatchback and the stretched A-Class sedan. Last night, Mercedes-Benz finally revealed the 2019 A-Class sedan for the U.S. This will take the place of the CLA as the entry point for Mercedes-Benz. The regular A-Class sedan is the same as the long-wheelbase variant in terms of design; large grille, trapezoidal headlights, and bold lines along the side. Overall length is 2.3-inches shorter than the LWB variant (179.1 vs. 181.4 inches). Interestingly, the new A-Class sedan is very close in size to the current CLA - slightly shorter in overall length (179.1 vs. 182.3 inches) but having a longer wheelbase (107.4 inches vs. 106.3 inches). Wheels rang…

  3. According to this Bloomberg report, Mercedes-Benz is overstating the MPG on their auto's with MPG exceeding 50% on their new A, C & E class auto's. This report by Brussels-based Transport & Environment also seems to imply that Mercedes-Benz also has a NOx problem with their own diesel fleet. Mercedes-Benz is pushing for a universal world wide light vehicle test procedure that would measure tail pipe emissions and MPG / MPK so that a single standard is built for the world wide market that they would like to take place in 2017.

  4. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 18, 2013 The next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one the mostly anticipated car launches of this year since it breaks new ground in technology and innovation for the entire industry. The new S-Class, codenamed W221 looks to continue that trend as evidenced by some new interior shots released by Mercedes and spy shots of the exterior. We'll start with the interior. Mercedes-Benz has filled the S-Class with a load of new technologies, the centerpiece being two 12.3 inch high-resolution screens. One takes the place of the gauge cluster while the other is a touchscreen for the infotainment system and climate co…

The new chairman, who took over January 1, sees engines and transmissions, assembly processes and purchasing as areas where cooperation can be improved. “We think the biggest opportunity lies in sharing all know-how and technological processes. There is opportunity in sharing parts as well,” Zetsche said at the Detroit auto show. Asked about the possibility that Chrysler vehicles could be built in Mercedes’ plants and vice versa, Zetsche …

  6. So I am spending the week at the International Seattle Auto Show. With over 500 auto's on display which includes many concepts I have been able to spend some quiet time before the show opens to the public to actually look at and sit in many new cars that have been talked about here. I started off Wednesday morning focused to look at the following entry level auto's from Mercedes Benze since SMK swears they are the best auto's out there. So my initial impression of just looking at these auto's from the outside was Bland, looks like another appliance. This continues to the inside where I do not understand MB design language. The cut up dash, the so called f…

  7. Mercedes-AMG has its eye on adding a third standalone model to join the GT Coupe/Cabriolet and GT 4-Door Coupe. Speaking with Autocar, Mercedes-AMG's head Tobias Moers hinted about a new model. One model that can be crossed off the list is an SUV. “There was a clear space in the market for the four-door GT, but we already have many excellent AMG SUV derivatives and it makes no sense to steal from them just so we can make our own car,” said Moers. Autocar speculates the new model could be a competitor to the Porsche Boxster/Cayman. It would also be a perfect replacement for the slow-selling Mercedes-Benz SLC. Source: Autocar View full article

  8. The 43-badged models from Mercedes-AMG provide a choice to those who want something a bit different from the standard Mercedes model but cannot afford the full-blown AMG variant. But a new report says the 43s will transition to 53s and come with an electric motor to boot. Wheels has learned from a source that the next-generation CLS-Class - due in 2018 - will be the first Mercedes-AMG model to debut the 53 badge. It will use a new turbocharged 3.0L inline-six with 429 horsepower, along with a mild-hybrid system that is capable of producing 70 extra horsepower when needed. Like other mild-hybrid systems, this will not allow the CLS 53 to travel on electric power alone…

The Mercedes-Benz Collection has launched a two-year pilot program in Nashville and Philadelphia which will give subscribers access to 30 models variants for a monthly fee ranging from $1,095 to $2,995. There is a one-time activation fee of $495 when you sign up. "We know there is a market opportunity for people who would like the ability to move in and out of vehicles, depending on what they need or want at a particular point in time, or who don't want to own a vehicle right now. That's why we are excited to test the waters with Mercedes-Benz Collection," said Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Diet…

  10. Meet the replacement for the boxy Mercedes-Benz GLK, the 2016 GLC-Class. The GLC-Class continues the nomenclature change started by Mercedes-Benz. In terms of where the GLC will sit in Mercedes' lineup, it will be between the GLA and GLE models. The overall look of the GLC is much smoother than the GLK and boasts a number of elements from recent Mercedes-Benz models. The front twin-bar grille and headlights with an LED "brow" found on the new C-Class. The back has steeper rake to make it look slightly more 'sporty'. Inside, the GLC is pretty much the same as the C-Class with a clean looking dash and sloping center stack with floating screen. Interior space has see…

This odd duck was pulled out of most markets aside from China in 2013 due to poor sales. In China, its a different story where it sells 12,000 to 14,000 R-Classes. But one official at Mercedes-Benz believes the R-Class should make a comeback. Wolf-Dieter Kurz, Mercedes-Benz’s vice-president of product group SUVs and sports cars tells CarAdvice that they were too early with the R-Class. Kurz goes onto say that crossovers could be a major driver of product variants in the future due to their popularity and that there is room for practicality-focused mod…

  19. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com September 4, 2013 This is the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Racing Series concept that will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. The company says the concept "provides a preview of a further customer sports racing car from Mercedes-AMG". The concept takes your standard CLA 45 AMG and makes a number of tweaks to make it ready for the track. 20. One of the stories we didn't get the chance to cover on Cheers & Gears last week was Mercedes-Benz building a midsize pickup. Now at the time, we considered this an early April Fools joke. But when the official announcement came out, our jaws were agape: Mercedes-Benz is working on a midsize truck that will go on sale towards the end of the decade for certain marketplaces - the U.S. is not one of those places. Now this wouldn't be a luxury truck, it would be built for work. This further substantiated by Mercedes-Benz's commercial van division handling the development. But Mercedes-Benz USA wants to make the final decision if the truck is sold or not. "We said to Stu…

The not surprising news comes after decade of Maybach selling two models, the 57 and 62, and seeing disappointing results year after year. “We’ve come to the conclusion that it is better to cut our losses with Maybach than to continue into an uncertain future with a brand that has failed to live up to original sales expectations," the source said. 38. Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept at Auto China following a leak last week spilling key information about the concept. It’s even harder trying to wrap your brain around the idea while cruising through Nice, France, and Monaco, where the sun tans beautiful jet-setters year round and where multimillion-dollar yachts and homes dot the coastline like salt on tortilla chips. (Yes, they’re everywhere.) But that’s exactly the scenario Mercedes-Benz presented media during the launch of the all-new $132,325 S550 Cabriolet (we drove S500 Cabs, though they’ll be badged S550 in the U.S.) and the aforementioned S63 Cab. The SL 63 AMG gets AMG's M571 twin-turbo V8 engine producing 537 HP and 590 lb-ft. Want a bit more power? AMG will offer a performance package that increases horsepower to 564 hp and torque to 664 lb-ft. That power sits in a vehicle that is 125 Kilograms (about 276 lbs) lighter than the outgoing model. That's due in part to a aluminum bodyshell and the trunk made out of carbon fiber and plastic That combination of weight-loss and power propels the SL 63 AMG to 62 MPH in 4.2 seconds. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com January 13, 2013 Mercedes-Benz has pulled the covers off the brand new CLA250 four-door coupe, which the three-pointed star hopes will bolster its entry-level lineup and bring in younger people. The CLA takes the design of the larger CLS and shrinks it down a bit. There’s a gently sloping roofline, flowing character lines along the side, and swept-back taillights. The overall design is also very efficient, getting a drag coefficient of 0.23 (the Toyota Prius has a drag coefficient of 0.25). The front end of the production A-Class is almost identical to the concept, with its large grill, headlights with LED running lights, and daring character lines. 59. It may seem odd for an automaker to launch a new wagon in the U.S. considering how crazy we are for crossovers. But Mercedes-Benz knows there is a small subset of luxury buyers who prefer the looks and practicality of a wagon. For those, Mercedes has announced a new E-Class wagon. The 2017 E-Class wagon takes the shape found on the sedan and adds a longer roof and rear tailgate. Using the same 115.7-inch wheelbase as the sedan, the wagon will offer more interior space. As to how much, Mercedes doesn't provide that information. But considering the current wagon offers 57.4 cubic feet of cargo space, we expect it to be about the same or slightly more.
