While at the dealer this morning for some routine service, I strolled around the lot. At the back, i spotted a couple rusty old minivans, a rusty Ram pickup w/ what looked like at outboard motor attached (or maybe it's a salt spreader for plowing), a Jaguar w/ a munched bumper, and a Smart cabriolet 'Passion' trim level...

Happy April Fools Day, folks. To kick off this thread, I don't have a really interesting sighting. Just an observation. I saw the current Lincoln Continental going down the freeway next to me, ultimately passing me as it was moving along to my left. The Continental's front grille makes that nice, vertical Lincoln statement. I once sat in one at the auto show. The interior is really nicely finished and the one at the show had these blue leather seats - nice ones, not tacky ones. Then, as the car pulls away from you, the effect sort of sputters. The rear deck lid tapers and the twin horizontal lamps are sort of wimpy compared to the statement the rest of th…

I had talked to Camino a few weeks back about writing up buyer's guides every so often about some of the cars shown in hemmings muscle machines. he thought it was a good idea, i'll give credit where credit is do and be upfront that i didnt write these or do the research for that matter. i wont do a copy and paste type deal but i will type it up more short and too the point than what they have. So, here for the first one (more if ya'll like them) is the buyer's guide to the 94-96 Chevrolet Impala SS At the end of 1987 there were slim pickings amongst the Chevy loyal that would satisfy the sporty rwd v8 hunger inside. Last night, my wife and I took a trip of about 100km to another city. I got off the highway at my exit and pulled up to the stoplight at the end of the ramp. All of a sudden the dash lights up like a christmas tree (Service Engine light, Engine Power Reduced light, Service Vehicle light, Traction Control light) and "CODE 84" shows up in the DIC. Engine power was extremely limited, I limped off the road at about 20 km/h. Pulled over, checked the fluids, everything looked fine. Tried restarting the car a few times, same thing kept coming up. I started to call GM customer service, then realized I couldn't remember what the number of the code was, so I started the car back up…

This is a public service announcement. http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tund...ures-i-am-club/ By the time you reach this link, it may be dead. In some cases, I've had to go to the website directly and then nagivate down. There is another Tundra storm abrewing. And it's not looking good for Toyota. Is the liftgate really considered another door by Toyota? Should anyone be able to use their truck to haul ATVs? Could someone get hurt from this? As one of the owners experiencing this problem stated, we need to let everyone know.

ok, this is not meant to be an X-rated thread. but who do y'all think is a hot or handsome star that you wouldn't mind inspecting up close? If you had one (or two) chances to be up close and personal with a star, who would it be? C&G is always about equal time, so there is no limit as to whether its the strappin' men or the hot ladies. C'mon, who do you think is SMOKIN? I confess, I can't stop at one, so everyone else chip in too. What started this idea for me.....I saw a movie today with Claire Danes in it. It all started after I got back to work after going home for Christmas, my family lives in Detroit and I am a Coast Guard flight engineer in Kodiak Alaska. Well some one on one of my 6 (not joking) connecting flights gave me a cold. So 2 days after I got home the cold got bad so I went to go take some NyQuil, I poured 2 tablespoons into that plastic cup thingy and tried to drink it. Now is where the fun starts I have the NyQuil in my mouth and as luck would have it I cough unleashing a spray of red liquid out my nose all over my kitchen, it looked like I got shot in the back of the head. Then it got worse, I inhaled the rest on the NyQuil right into my lungs, so now im st…

Hey everyone. At kinda the mid point of teh auto show season I was wondering if anyone made any revisions to their plans for near future (or more distant for that matter) car purchases. I had said I wanted to get the new CTS this coming fall. Well, scratch that. I love the new CTS. I think its great. But While I could easily afford a lightly optioned one with the base 3.6 at around 35k there is now way I can save up the money to buy a loaded 3.6 DI like I want without taking on payments which is a big no no for me as Ill be heading back to school full time next fall. The Pontiac G8 was made for me it seams. Loaded it will likley come in at less than 35k. IT…

I simply CAN'T believe I'm the first one to throw this up on The Lounge..... I friggin' love her.......sometimes I can't pin my finger on why I do......but I see some surprising strength in the way she carries herself, in the way she speaks (scripted or not)....and I see strength in the many things she has accomplished as Governor of Alaska. (I'll admit I had to do my own research on her to know much....) In addition, she seems like a "normal" working woman with a "normal" family. And, she has charm a-plenty, I think......VERY un-Hillary-like.......(and I'm somewhat of a Hillary fan, believe it or not....) I think Obama has been knocked off kilter quite a bit by …

Wrong on immigration Lexington MUCH as I admire his prose style, George Will is horribly wrong this morning. Of Arizona's atrocious new law that allows the state police to arrest anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant, he says: Arizona's law might give the nation information about whether judicious enforcement discourages illegality. If so, it is a worthwhile experiment in federalism. On the contrary, empowering the police to stop and demand papers from anyone who looks vaguely Mexican will make life unpleasant for Hispanics while wasting time that officers could more usefully spend pursuing real criminals. More generally, I find the "let's secure the…

I figure this would be a good idea to hopefully bring some life to the usually boring Chat Room. Also to maybe bring the time that which everyone shows up down a bit. Staying up past midnight because that's when it's most active is getting old. Anyways, sticky please? I assume this is more important than the index of Camino's old rides... Hey all. Sorry I've been away for so long. Life has taken some very very weird turns for me in the last 8 months and I've been in some bad places. I'll update you on all of that in another post. In the meantime.....If you remember, I've been driving my partner's father's 2014 Cruze since November 18. We took over the loan when we took the car and in May I got tired of the monthly payment so I just paid off the remaining $3.3k. We're keeping the Encore for now. It just passed 100k miles and has been great for us. It's in excellent condition, so we expect to have it for another 50k miles or so. After the payoff, once he got the title, we transferred the Cruze i…

Just a place to swap stories about our vaccine experiences. I got the Moderna shot on Jan 11th. Other than a sore arm for a few days (same thing I get with a flu shot) I had no side effects. I got my second shot on Feb 11th at 6pm. The next morning I woke up feeling feverish with body aches and chills. I took Advil and drank Gatorade and felt blah all day. In the evening I had to pick up a curbside grocery order, I didn’t feel well but I went anyway. On the way back I really felt awful and almost pulled over to make Albert drive back. I made it home and went right back to bed. I had fevers during the night for the next few nights. I didn’t start feeling no…

Reading ocnblu's thread about a new car, this just popped into my mind so I thought I'd make a new topic about it for everyone to see. Essentially it is a loophole in the GM Card system and allows anyone to use another person's points. My parents have two cards, and my sister used one card's points on her Cruze and I used the other points on the Camaro. However, prior to the day we each bought our respective car, neither of us were on the card and thus couldn't use the points. However, we got added to the card and were able to use the points without our parents having to co-sign on the loans. Basically you simply call the GM card, tell them you are adding someone to the…

Worst Car Showcase Presents: The Cadillac Cimarron Cadillac, since the dawn of its inception until the late 1970s, branded itself as the “Standard of the World.” Everyone who was anyone the world over aspired to own one; owning a Cadillac was a cornerstone of the American dream; lusting over those characteristic sharp lines was just as natural as lusting over a centerfold model in Playboy. Cadillac cars were at the top of the automotive food chain with their vast, vault-like interiors and massive, powerful engines and no other luxury car could ever come close. However, after OPEC formed and the 1970s gas crunch marched its way upon America’s shores, Cadillac’s …

Here are a few quick and easy recipes that not only are cheap, but definitely NOT unhealthy! "Chicken Rice" Difficulty: easy Combine can of Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup in a pot with some rice. Cook until rice is finished. Stir pretty frequently to keep it from burning as it is a very dry recipe. Very tasty! You can add curry and pepper to it if you want. --- Cucumber salad Difficulty: easy Finely chop 3 cucumbers. Combine 1.5 tsp sugar, a fair amount of rice vinegar (3/4 cup or so), Kikoman Tempura Dipping Sauce to taste and 1 tbl water in a small bowl. Mix. Add cucumbers to bowl. It's finally come around, not just that I've pondered doing it, but that I'm selling the Fleetwood and moving on to something newer, much smaller, more efficient, etc. For the longest time (and to keep the finances smiling), the idea was something new but used (and quite a bit so) that fulfilled the smaller and more economical but that could be another cash purchase. Think late 90's Accord, and you'll have gotten the drift. Then that went, well, sort of to the side. I graduated college and while not yet making huge money yet or in a dream job, I'm working with a great company at home for the time being and am making a nice chunk. I love the Fleetwood dearly and it …

For my Graphic Design cass we have to come up with a theme restaurant, so I figured a car themed one would rock. But I can't think of a good name for it yet? Any suggestions of a name? And what would it serve for food?

Nude model or groping victim? The Economist THE Transportation Security Administration, America's second-most loathed bureaucracy, has used its stimulus bucks to stock up on fancy ritual-humiliation scanners that electronically disrobe air-travellers. TSA officers are exceedingly unlikely to detect terrorist tools thereby, but they can always wince and titter at their victims' corpulence or unimpressive primary and secondary sexual characteristics. And if you are unwilling to surrender your dignity to a low-level security-state functionary in this way, you always have the option to surrender your dignity to a low-level security-state functionary in an "enhanced pat-down…

The Year Is: 1959 The year is 1959. You've just graduated college and started your first job. Since several other of your co-workers live in the same neighborhood as yourself, you've decided to save gas and start a carpool. Things are going well until it's your turn to drive and your coworkers start complaining about passenger space. You decide a station wagon is on order. The only question is, which one? HAHA, how do you like that topic title? I have been checking out 1st gen Cadillac CTS's lately, and I have noticed a little square on the rear bumper (about 2" by 2"), and I was wondering if anyone knew what that was. I have seen them on several different cars lately and was just curious. It is not a rear parking assist sensor. I am going to attach this pic that I found on the internet, but I"m not sure if I'm legally allowed to. I guess if my computer does blow up on me, I"m good!? It is on the right side of the bumper, just above the exhaust pipe. It really doesn't matter to me, but I see them all the time and have always wondered what they are. While we are t…

I thought I'd share this with you guys, I figure the tinkerers, RWD fans, V8 fans, and plain crazy people will get a kick out of this. It's a 1999 Dodge Intrepid that a member of LHF has been converting RWD, V8 powered. There's 30 pages and counting of the progress so far. It's a very cool read, check it out. http://www.lhforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16536 And of course,a video.

I watched two eps of Overhaulin' tonight, and cars that both began with at least driver's side mirrors (68 LeMans and 70 Nova) were finished with no mirrors on either door! I don't see any evidence that Chip's thrown in cameras or anything, and not only will you get ticketed right off the road in this state for not having outside mirrors, but it's just creepy unsafe. It's simply more confidence inspiring to have all your mirrors. Is he just throwing them on later, or what's the deal?

What would be some nominations for 7 wonders of the automotive world? I'll compile a list from your nominations and we'll have an article about it. You don't need to nominate 7 in total, just something you think should be included on the list. Just picking your favorite cars isn't going to be enough. The vehicle should be historically significant and/or mark a departure in automotive design/technology. I'm going to try to include some from America, Asia, and Europe so we're not so heavily weighted. In any case, when explaining automobiles to some alien race, these 7 vehicles should tell a story about why they are the most important ones in automotive history.

This struck me as random and funny. Today, a really old guy (80/90ish) in my neighborhood told me my car looked "smooth as a toilet seat." I had no response to that. Awhile ago, my girlfriend drove my car and said because the overhangs are pretty large compared to her car, that my car "is a big titty and big booty car." Yeah. Anything to add?

Both cars I've drivin on a daily basis have been floor shifter so I'm used to it. That one week I had my car in the shop for repair on the head gasket I was going between my dad's 2000 Impala and my bro's 94 Park Ave (both have column shifters). The following week after I got my car back, I remember one point I was backing up and when I went to put it into drive I reach up and hit my windshield wiper switch as if it was a column shifter Idk.. I must have been pretty tired or something that day. But anyway, for those of us who are stuck with/perfer an auto over a manual, wich do you guys perfer?

This has always been of interest to me. Of course Detroit and Flint are the famous ones, but scattered throughout the Midwest and Great Lakes states are smaller cities that were once heavy on industry and now empty shells. Some places like the Quad Cities, St. Louis, and Cleveland are making a comeback, while others like the ones listed below continue to deteriorate. Gary, Indiana - founded in 1906 by US Steel Corporation, it was Indiana's 2nd largest city until changing demographics, steel layoffs, and rising crime sent almost half of the population packing. Today it has just under 100,000 people. Gary in the early 60's --------- East St. Louis, Illino…

Pontiac Facts Alcoa made an "all-aluminum" Pontiac. It was a 1942 two-door streamliner and had its engine and other parts made of aluminum. In 1943, Pontiac designed a one-quarter-ton 4X4 truck proposed for build by Chevrolet. Some non-military work started again at Pontiac Engineering in 1943. Work was started on a five-inch Rocket Bomb in 1944. Pontiac also started making a 155mm shell. GM Coaches were worked on at Pontiac in 1944. There was almost no road testing due to restrictions on manpower and fuel in 1944. An experimental Pontiac 6 with a supercharger was built in 1945. An experimental Pontiac 6 with an aluminum intake manifold dual carbure…

I think the title is self explanatory. Feel free to post anything pre-1945, Although I've always felt that a true Pre-War car is 1939 or earlier. I mean wouldn't a 1942 Chevy be a Mid-WW2 car? My brain hurtz now. -----

I've learned many things. Most importantly, I've learned that I can start a hilarious meme that takes up multiple pages in a thread, then gets its own thread, currently at four pages, and likely to grow. I also learned that my fiancee can tell I haven't shaved by talking to me on the phone. 'Twas either a very good guess, or she could hear my facial foliage brushing against the phone. Finally, I learned that if I need clean boxers, they're on the back of the sofa.

lol funny title. Anyway, the Camaro's gas gauge has its head up its ass. Went out of town, filled it up to a half-tank. It was about a 100 mile trip there and back. My car will go for 400 miles on a full-tank, which a full Camaro gas tank holds 15.5 gallons. That equals up to around 25 mpg in mixed conditions. That's about average gas mileage for a V6 Camaro with a 5-speed. So if this is true, my car could have made this trip on about 1/4 of a tank, right? I've done it before, so it did it again, right? No. Apparently, it took the whole damn half-tank to do it. It also somehow managed to go about 50 miles reading flat empty. So today, I put five bucks in it. It obvi…

Because it's that time of the month... or year, rather. One of those times is probably a better way to put it. It's something I frequently go though. To put it simply, I'm never satisfied; always looking for something refreshing and new (to me). It's essentially a flavor of the month affair, but in an automotive sense. If you were unable to grasp where I'm heading with this, I'll spell it out for you. I'm looking for another car, and rather seriously, at that. While I've found joy in my current vehicles, I find myself aspiring to greater offerings. One thing has always rang true and that is my love for amenities. Between my last few vehicles, I've constantly bemoaned the …

They say that when it comes to Porn, every man has an Adam or Eve, an ideal in their mind they are looking for but never finding. Perhaps the same thing could b e said of cars....whhat is your automotive Adam or Eve...the very root of your passion? For me, it's anything roadster-ish. I say ish because cars like the S2000, solstice, Boxster, 56 T Bird, 72 vette Convertible, et al have side windows and are not truly roadsters.... But for me a pre WW II F1 car, a roadster running at Bonneville, a Solstice, a 57 vette ragtop, my Miata, a formula Ford, an IRL car, a 60's roadster at Indy, a sprint car at Eldora, winged Sprint cars at Columbus Motor Speedway, etc. Just doe…

First off, I just mentioned this car in another thread, but I thought what the heck, why not post some of my favorite lesser known hardtops. Not the typical, well known '57 Bel Airs, '59 Cadillacs & '70 Challengers, (I love those too) but the weird, off the beaten path stuff you might not have EVER seen before, or perhaps you saw one but it was 7 years ago at a car show. Here goes: 1.) 1965 to 1968 BMW 2000cs Be still my heart! The later 1970s cs/csl coupes were quite beautiful as well. 2.) Going even FURTHER back in time: 1962 - 1965 BMW 3200cs A compact, slick looking car that had a V8, four on the floor, two door …
