Well the inevitable finally happened, Buick has confirmed that the Regal will not be returning to the U.S. after the 2020 model year. After that, Buick will be an all-SUV brand. The move comes as light-truck sales take 70% of the U.S. market and 90% of all Buick sales. While the Regal retreats from these shores, it will still continue to be sold in China where demand remains strong. As of the end of Q3 this year, Buick moved only 8,849 units of Regal year to date. That's down 19.6% from the year prior. Regal's demise was hinted at during the Los Angeles Auto Show where no Regals were on display. The Buick Lacrosse sedan and Buick Cascada convertible were canc…

When the Buick Encore GX debuted in late May 2019, it was originally reported that it would have a Turbo-4 cylinder with more power than the current Buick Encore. That turned out to be both true and false. The engine will be more powerful than the current Encore, however it will be in 3 cylinder form rather than 4-cylinder. GM Authority uncovered the fleet order guides yesterday and published the stats. The Buick Encore GX will be offered with a 1.2 liter three-cylinder turbo that produces 137 horsepower at 5000 RPM and 166 lb-ft of torque at 2500 RPM. That is 1 less horsepower but 18 lb-ft more torque than the current base 1.4 liter turbo four. The 1.2-liter will…

The crossover fever has really hit Buick as they claim "almost 90 percent of U.S." sales come from their utility lineup. So why not add another crossover to their lineup? Buick announced today the Encore GX which will go on sale early next year. Coming from China, the model will slot between the Encore and Envision. Not many details were provided aside from the cargo space being " almost 5 cubic feet larger than the Encore and about 3 cubic feet smaller than the Envision." Car and Driver reports that the GX will have a slightly more powerful turbo-four when compared to the Encore; automatic transmission, and the choice of either front or all-wheel drive. “As w…

For the last decade or so, Buick has relied on imported designs and vehicles to fill out its product portfolio. Largely that came in the form of designs by GM's European subsidiary, Opel. The Buick Verano, Regal, Encore, and Cascada all started life as Opel products subsequently modified for North American tastes and branding. Now with the Opel sold to PSA, Buick's product focus is going to turn towards Chinese tastes. With the pending end of production for the Buick Lacrosse and the cancellation of the Buick Cascada, it leaves Buick with a light product porfolio of just one 4-door hatch, one wagon, and 3 crossovers. According to a report by Automotive News, Bui…

Buick is reportedly working on a crossover coupe to add to its lineup in the US. This vehicle would be in addition to, rather than replace, any vehicles in the current lineup. Most of Buick's recent lineup has been a rebadge of some other brand's designs, this new vehicle would be a departure from that with Buick leading the design process from the start. CarDesignNews was shown some sketches and models of future Buicks and what they saw would "turn everything you think about Buick on its ear". It is a bold design that will shock people both inside and outside the industry. The designs would feel familiar without using specific cues. Buick also took the tim…

Cheers and Gears Exclusive 2008 Buick Enclave (GMT-967) Cheers and Gears has paid for the rights to use these photos. Please link to the URL OF THIS TOPIC AND NOT HOTLINK OR REHOST THE IMAGES if you wish to share! Thank you! The above are some of the best photos of the production Enclave we've seen so far and we're happy to report that its not that exciting. Why? Because it looks quite identical to the stunning concept vehicle first shown seven months ago at Detroit. The instrument panel consists of a five-pack of round gauges like the concept along with the cabin-wide swath of wood trim nestled atop metallic accent of equal length. Chrome bezeling encircles the …

FIRST GLIMPSE: 2010 Buick LaCrosse Interior Photoshop courtesy of Ted Krygier General Motors has released these four renderings of a future vehicle labeled 'GMX-353', which is the internal designation for the next-generation Buick LaCrosse. Based on the forthcoming Epsilon II mid/large FWD platform, the next LaCrosse is intended on taking the current midsize Buick to the next level in terms of luxury and refinement. If these conceptualizations are even partially telling of the production sedan, then that goal will be readily achieved. The first rendering of the gauge binnicle (above) shows an advanced design with heavy use of metallic textures. A stitched leather da…

Earlier in the year C&G uncovered images of a yet to be seen Buick model that we were unsure of its origin. However with the latest news on a new "Super" line of Buicks set to be released the obvious became clear. We've found the new face of the LaCrosse. We expect this FWD, V8 LaCrosse to debut late in '07 with the entire line-up featuring this new grille and facia look in '08. When referring to this story please do NOT copy & paste the information instead LINK TO this story! Very Special Thanks to CSpec for the information provided above!

My parents went to the Buick dealership today because my mothers LeSabre is reaching about 50k and want to trade it in before the value starts decreasing more rapidly. With the end of the year models they are eligible for the GM employee discount and there were 2 cars that it came down to. When they went there they wanted another LeSabre, I told them to get the LaCrosse but my mother didn't seem like she wanted a smaller vehicle but when she came home today she was considering one. There was a brand new 2005 LeSabre with some decent options including leather seats and dual climate control but no Driver Information Center or compass and such. I wish I had more detail…

Made in China General Motors' next LaCrosse sedan is being designed right now … in China. That says a lot about GM, a lot about China, and even more about the future of creativity. Well, I just came back from a 400mi trip in the Lexus ES 350 and here are my thoughts. 1) At 75mph, the Lexus ES has SIGNIFICANTLY more wind noise than a "Quiet Tuned" Lucerne. 2) The ES has a lot of road noise on coarse pavement, more than a Lucerne on any pavement I drove on. 3) Stomp the throttle for passing and the ES gives a muted howl, its much quieter than the Lucerne at WOT. So I stand by my words, the Lucerne is a quiet car on the highway, provided you don't get on the gas much. The Lucerne needs an engine as quiet as the Lexus ES to fit my definition of "quiet tuning."

The vehicle, which should debut in spring 2007 as a 2008 model, replaces the Rendezvous sport wagon and Rainier mid-sized SUV. Analysts and dealers say the Enclave will be a full-sized crossover with three rows of seats and a standard V-6 engine. The vehicle should have a base price near $27,000, with prices rising to $40,000 for a fully equipped model, sources say. Whole story: http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=55696

I got this from another website: Can any dealers please confirm? LaCrosse Super WAS at the dealer meeting in Vegas last weekend. It DID look like the China version (similar, imagine with oval grill like lucerne). It IS due out next summer, only in the CXS version which will come with the same V8 as the Impala SS. The 2008 CXL and CX *should* have the new front end as well, making the LaCrosse look more like the Lucerne.

Buick Regal GS Gets Rated William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 15, 2011 The time has come; Buick has released the final numbers for the Regal GS due out later this year and they are impressive. The Regal GS is rated at 270 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. That will propel the European-derived sedan from 0-60 in 6.7 seconds according to GM. “The Regal GS 2.0L turbo delivers the highest specific output of any production engine GM has ever offered, and at 135 hp per liter is the most power dense engine ever certified by SAE. December 21, 2011 black-knight CheersandGears.com It was only last week that Buick offered us the first glimpse of their upcoming small crossover, the Encore, that's set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show this January. But apparently that one image wasn't enough of the Encore for Buick to reveal to world. So how did Buick decide to follow up the Encore's first act? By taking the show over to Facebook where, section by section, a full image of the new CUV would be totally revealed by January 10th. It still doesn't show much right now, but it's barely enough to sort of see that it won't be in anyway related to the Chevrolet Equinox or the old Saturn Vue. Update: Anothe…

Buick: A brand rechanneled Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 6:00 am LaCrosse: Buick plans to offer a 5.3-liter V-8 for the 2007 model year. A redesign is expected for the 2010 model year, possibly on General Motors' front-wheel-drive Epsilon 2 architecture. To reduce costs, all vehicles developed on Epsilon 2 (Chevrolet and Opel, for example) will be engineered by GM Europe in Ruesselsheim, Germany. U.S. operations are to provide specifications for such things as ride and handling. Styling will be determined by the region that will market the car. The LaCrosse will be styled by GM North America. Powertrains will differ by region. Lucerne: A rear-wheel-drive Luc…

Fuelled by the success of Buick’s new Enclave SUV and strong showings in customer satisfaction and quality surveys, “there’s now a consensus within GM that Buick is alive and well and can appeal to young people,” Lutz said. Buick was widely considered to be a candidate for elimination just a couple of years ago.

The Super features a bolder version of the signature Buick grille and a larger, chrome-trimmed rear bumper along with a more luxurious interior. Other upgrades include standard 18-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes and MagneRide suspension. GM says 0 to 60 mph will be less than 6.0 seconds." I am currently looking for a used (2002-2004) Park Avenue. My initial thought was only the Ultra would do...but I've found some great deals on the regular Park Ave, which has left me thinking that maybe I don't really "need" the Ultra. I am unaware of any inherent problems with the supercharged motors, but I thought I might ask everyone for some input.... I have discovered that Buick recommends premium fuel on the Ultra (as if anyone can afford premium these days...)

Ok, guys, no debating how good or how bad or how old...we've been down that road before. Through (inclusively speaking) which model year is this engine to be produced? I know that there was a guy who would show up once in a blue moon on the old website with all kinds of good technical info, including this engine, but he doesn't appear to be around. So, please post if you know some concrete info on the end of production for this engine. Gracias.

I recently bought a Lucerne CX, believing quality/luxury equate to QUIET, and buying into the QUIET-TUNING hype – although it’s indeed quiet on the highway, I am disappointed that it is not nearly as quiet in stop/go city driving as my previous 1999 LeSabre Ltd – the CX has poor engine noise isolation & annoying drive train shudder/growl under startup acceleration conditions - dealer improved situation by replacing one engine mount (defective design) & realigning engine to mounts, but engine noise isolation still not acceptable - wind/road noise isolation good, but 2 out of 3 not good enough. Is there ANY way I can get better engine noise isolation? I'd be willing…

I was at B and N working on a paper this AM. After some coffee, I went over to the magazine area. I saw that Car and Driver reviewed the Lucerne. Overall, the review was positive. It praised the craftsmanship and the quality of the product. It seemed a little shortchanged on the power of the V8 engine. But, overall, not bad. The first picture one encounters is indeed flattering. The one comment that bugged me is that the styling piggybacks onto that of the mid 90s Camry. How is that? I think that the Lucerne's styling is closely aligned with that of the large VW Phaeton. In fact, one day I was driving down the freeway and thought that the car 1/4 mile ahead o…

Jamie LaReau Automotive News August 25, 2008 - 12:01 am ET At Buick, it's nearly all about China — the brand's biggest market. Buick's redesigned mid-sized car will be sold here and in China. A small sedan created for China may be sold here. A stylish, rear-wheel-drive sedan went on sale last year in China and was penciled in for the United States. But GM's financial plight scuttled the U.S. plan for the rwd sedan, as well as production plans for a sharp-looking coupe concept that debuted last year at the Shanghai auto show. Small car: General Motors is likely to bring a redesigned compact sedan to the United States for the 2012 model year, a front-wheel-driv…

well my thoughts on it are, it looks kinda outdated (grille and side) but good. But the back is very new-sentra and altima like... the interior is spectacular (anyone recognize the enclave gear selecter? I think...) http://www.buick.com.cn/lacrosse_pictures.aspx

Well...all is now up. Nothing too huge for Buick, except that the Lacrosse is now the sole vehicle with the 3.8L and the Lucerne gets....the 3.9L and retains the 4-speed in all. The Lucerne actually got quite a few changes, albeit small, and the rest are colors/options as usual. Guess they figured out what to do with all the extra 3.9L's around! Lacrosse Deletions (DG7) Mirrors, outside power-adjustable, body-color (QB5) Wheels, 16" steel with wheel covers (PY1) Wheels, 16" 8-spoke Chrome-Tech (N85) Wheels, 17" 12-spoke painted aluminum (PZE) Wheels, 17" 12-spoke, chromed aluminum (FR3) Axle, 3.69 ratio (LY7) Engine, 3.6L VVT DOHC V6 …

With Congress still yet to decide the fate of GM's return to profitability plan, Buick's role has potentially transformed from a 'niche' brand in the USA back into a core brand… a core brand that could potentially offer a full line of cars with the possibility of a crossover or two when all is said and done. So, what should Buick's line-up look like when all the pieces fall into place? Several suggestions have been tossed around in other related topics, but let's try to consolidate our future visions of Buick's line-up here. A wishlist line-up if you will... I'll start: (Yes, I'm borrowing from some suggestions already given because I agree with them ) CUVs …

A few more details have come out about Buick's LaCrosse Super, in an article by Jamie Lareau in this week's issue of Automotive News. "Buick will get a 'super' version of the LaCrosse. That's an 'up-level edition" . . . It will include new front-end treatments, such as a waterfall grille, and a V-8 engine . . . pricing has not been set." "Buick starts production on the Enclave crossover this fall and likely will start production on the super LaCrosse at that time . . . " " . . . Buick expects to sell 8,000 Lucerne sedans a month this year." Here is a link to the full story, which also includes coverage of Pontiac's entry-level G5 coupe. Click on this.

So, went window shopping for new Buicks today. Wife was pretty well set on a LaCrosse but found the Verano an interesting option too (she referred to it as the 'baby LaCrosse'). She hates Sunday 'window shopping' as she wants to get behind the wheel and go for a test drive. She loved the LaCrosse courtesy car last week and is curious as to the ride of the Verano in comparison. I'm going to try to get her to the dealership early this week for a test drive. Can anyone here who has driven a Verano and a LaCrosse provide me with input on these two cars, especially any pros/cons to each one?

Buick essentially rebodies the Cadillac DTS By Scott Oldham Email Date posted: 04-03-2006 Over the years, we've driven cars that disappoint, cars that irk, cars that thrill. We've even sampled a few that made us laugh. But the 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V8 is the only car we've ever driven that has caused us physical pain. Our Platinum Metallic test vehicle was packed with options, including heated and cooled front seats that cost an extra $1,075. The cooling part of the package was fine, but using the seat heaters, turned the Buick's front seats into torture devices. Now we know what it's like to sit on an open flame. Logbook entries on the subject included: "Call t…

Sajeev Mehta has written a review of the Buick LaCrosse CXL for the truthabout cars.com. To read the review, click here. It is not a positive piece, declaring the vehicle a "rental car" that is bested by Hyundai. EDIT AFTERTHOUGHT: Now that I've read it over several times, I find the review insulting and amateurish. They can think the LaCrosse is a good or bad car, that's their opinion. I'm saying the writing style is nasty and less than professional. I presume that the author is not a professional journalist.

Was bumming with the kids today. They had a new silver Regal outside the BPG dealer by the Sonic today so I stopped in. First off, let me state that someone must of lit a fire under the GM dealers' asses because the last couple times I have dropped by the Buick dealer I have been treated real well and the salespeople have been absolutely knowledgible (SP) about every aspect of the car. I had an exceptional experience when i bought my Cobalt by the way too. In any case, the salesperson was more than happy to open the car outside since the one that they put on the show floor that morning had already sold and had left the building. I had previously been inside a Regal f…

We know the latest product that Buick dealers will be getting in the near future is the Cascada convertible starting sometime early next year. But what comes after that? Automotive News has done some sleuthing and has come up with possible timeline of what to expect from 2016 to 2019. 2016 First up is a redesign of the Buick Verano that will likely appear in the second half of 2016. The model is expected to grow in length and interior size. Either a 1.4T or 1.5T will be the base engine, while a new version of the 2.0T will be available. Next is the LaCrosse which will get a full redesign that will go on sale next fall. Spy shots show the model grow in size. The new…

I purchased a 2007 Buick Lucerne with 17500 miles a couple of months ago. It is a CXL with the 3.8 engine. The car has developed an annoying hesitation when driving at 40-50 mph. The car hesitates/pings/groans unless you give it a bit more gas to turn off the overdrive. The problem is most noticable when using 87 octane gas but it still present when running 93 octane. I've run Techron through the system thinking perhaps the injectors were dirty but that didn't help. The check engine light is not on. To make matters worse the gas peddle vibrates as the car hesitates. I don't notice the problem when driving around town or when on the highway at 65+ mph. I'…

Well, its obvious that Buick is trying to go back to the refined and premium vehicles that they once made. going back to the luxurious and styled vehicles. and just a second ago i was thinking, what cars will be in store for the future buick? and if Buick changes peoples perception, enough so that people will buy them. what is their perception? so basically what i am questioning, is what type of cars should buick be making? always Buick has made full size sedans. Always. Buick has catered to people who desire comfort. well... why does Buick only offer full size sedans, or maybe the lacross is a midsize, but no compacts? what does GM have to compete wi…

AutoGuide recently found two new trademark applications from General Motors. The applications were filed on December 16th and are for the 'Tourx' and 'Regal Tourx' trademarks. The applications say the trademarks are for “Motor land vehicles, namely automobiles.” AutoGuide speculates the Tourx name could be for a wagon variant of the next-generation Buick Regal. GM is currently hard at work on the next-generation Opel/Vauxhall Insignia - the model that the Regal is based on - and is expected to come in a five-door and wagon versions. We believe AutoGuide is on the right track with the wagon, but we're going to take it in a different direction. A couple years back, …

According to Automotive News, Buick is to get a new tag line and an ad campaign to change perception of its vehicles. AN's website states, "Buick will get a new advertising campaign for the brand and the new LaCrosse sedan this summer. The campaign will have a different tag line, too, from Buick's current 'Drive Beautiful.' Buick chief Susan Docherty said General Motors realizes the brand suffers from a consumer perception that its vehicles are for elderly, conservative buyers. That perception has contributed to a sharp sales slide for Buick from its glory years." My guess would be "The Craft of Modern Luxury." What do YOU think?

Unsold 1987 Buick GNX becomes dealer time capsule. In the mid-1980′s the performance car market in the United States was still in a pretty dismal state of tune. There were a few rays of light like the Ford Mustang GT and Pontiac Trans Am, but the only real shining star was Buick’s one year only 1987 GNX. Sure it was expensive, but it had the numbers to back up the price. Back then anything with horsepower numbers over 200 was a big deal, so when the GNX came out with its underrated 276 bhp and 360 lb-ft. of torque, enthusiasts couldn’t help but take notice. There was however one inherent problem… the car cost $30,000, around $10,000 more than a standard Buick Grand Nat…

According to Automotive News, Encore: The "Baby Enclave" compact crossover, tentatively called the Encore, will arrive in the 2013 model year. The five-seater is built on the Delta compact-car platform. Why use the Delta platform (which is on the Chevy Cruze) rather than Theta-Epsilon (which is a second-generation SRX)? I thought Buick would be a premium marque, not a Chevy clone. I could understand if the next-gen Equinox and Terrain go to Delta 2, but why a Buick?
