Buick
Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

GM signs deal to export $800M in Buicks to China David Shepardson | Detroit News Washington Bureau | Link to Original Article @ DetNews WASHINGTON -- General Motors Corp. signed an agreement today to export more than $800 million in U.S.-built vehicles to China. GM and its Shanghai General Motors joint venture announced the multi-year agreement in the nation's capital today. It lets GM export Buick Enclave crossover SUVs to China beginning next year, as well as auto parts and other vehicles. The Enclave is built at GM's Lansing Delta Township assembly plant. Today, Buick released details and images of their sleek new Envista crossover finally bound for the US and slotting just below the new Buick Encore GX in the lineup. We saw an earlier version of this car last September when the Buick Envista was released in China. While Buick is not labeling the Envista a crossover coupe, with a fastback profile, that is the segment the Envista largely falls into. However, with a base price starting at $23,495, it could be considered the only entry in the crossover coupe segment. Envista will be available in three trims, Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir, with base prices of $23,495, $25,195, and $29,195, respectively. Stylin…

Buick was hoping to keep the curtain closed on 2017 Encore before its debut at the New York Auto Show. But a Chinese website has ruined that. auto.tom.com got their hands on some leaked photos of the Chinese-market Buick Encore which matches up perfectly with the updated Opel/Vauxhall Mokka that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show with a revised front end. This is likely what we'll be seeing in a couple weeks time at New York. It is expected that the Encore will have the turbocharged SIDI 1.4 four-cylinder (found in the Touring model with 153 horsepower), along with a revised dashboard and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. According to Vince Burlapp's Car Page, the new Chinese Buick LaCrosse will basically be a rebadged Opel Insignia. (I tried to post a link but it wouldn't accept it, and tried to link to the photo but it didn't work.) So to read his information and see his picture, please go to burlappcars.com and look for the Wed., 6/25/08 story titled "Chinese Buick La Crosse." Burlapp states that the photo is what China gets but not what the U.S. will get. I thought with globalization that the Chinese and NA Buick product would be exactly the same. Is it possible that Burlapp is wrong, that the camouflaged picture hides the sweepspear line and other niceities of the Invicta Concep…

Here are select photos I took at the Chicago Auto Show, all at Buick's exhibit. I hope that fellow Buick fans will enjoy them: I can tell you that the Enclave is beautiful! I was worried that it would be too big for me, but, in person, it didn't seem too big. Chunky or hefty, yes, but I don't mean that in a bad way, just a descriptive adjective. It looks very substantial. Though I arrived not long after the Show opened for the day, there were a lot of people looking at the various Buicks. The biggest variety of ages were looking at the Enclave. Mostly older people (gray hair) were looking at Lucerne (shown in about 4 different colors and trim…

I have been looking for a replacement for my 1999 Park Avenue Ultra (the flagship of its day) and according to my local dealer, the Enclave is now considered the flagship for Buick. I really really like the Enclave, but why is a large Lambda crossover considered a flagship? More importantly, why can't Buick get a car that can properly compete with that NEW 2011 Chrysler 300 (or should that be a flagship Cadillac too?)? Indeed, why can't Buick and/or Cadillac get an upgraded version of the Hyundai Genesis as a flagship? Any thoughts? FWD crossovers do NOT a flagship make, IMHO.

While I am not a die hard Buick guy I saw the new Lacrosse today at the Cleveland Auto SHow today. It was a very impressive car. The interior is fantastic and the over styling less the grill was spot on. The grill I thought could be shorter but it was not anything that would keep me from considering one. GM should do well with this car if it is price right.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions concerning the sale of Opel/Vauxhall to PSA Groupe. A fair number deals with Buick as a number of their products (including the new Regal) are intertwined with Opel. GM executives say this will not affect Buick's lineup down the road. “The sale of Opel will have no impact on the fresh new lineup Buick is building out,” said Duncan Aldred, GM’s vice president of global Buick and GMC during the launch of the 2018 Regal this week. “This is very much part of our portfolio plan,” said Mark Reuss, GM’s executive vice president of global product development, purchasing, and supply chain to Car and Driver. “As we said, Opel …

We know from rumors that a GS variant of the next-generation Regal is incoming. But we have been wondering what would be powering it. Would it be a turbocharged-four like in the current GS or go with a V6? Thanks to a slip-up on Buick Canada's website, we might have an answer. The Truth About Cars reports that a couple of days ago, this line appeared on the Regal landing page of Buick Canada’s site. "Engineered to make getting there all the fun, the all-new Regal’s excellent driving performance is something to be experienced with available new powertrain and AWD system (3.6L V6 on GS and Twin Clutch AWD)." This was removed from Buick Canada's site, but if y…

From today's Detroit Free Press Meanwhile, GM has decided to add models to its Buick brand Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said. Fuelled by the success of Buick’s new Enclave SUV and strong showings in customer satisfaction and quality surveys, “there’s now a consensus within GM that Buick is alive and well and can appeal to young people,” Lutz said. Buick was widely considered to be a candidate for elimination just a couple of years ago.

The go-ahead has been given and next summer, Buick will launch the Envision crossover. According to Automotive News, Buick's chief Duncan Aldred told members of the Buick National Dealer Council yesterday and was planning to announce it to the rest of Buick's dealers today. Aldred confirmed the decision in an interview today. “Talk about a catalyst for the Buick brand and for volume growth. We’re putting in what I believe is a class-leading vehicle in the heart of the U.S. auto industry. This is massive for Buick,” said Aldred. Dealers have been wanting the Envision for quite a while now as it would fill a gap between the subcompact Encore and full-size Enclave. T…

For the last decade or so, Buick has relied on imported designs and vehicles to fill out its product portfolio. Largely that came in the form of designs by GM's European subsidiary, Opel. The Buick Verano, Regal, Encore, and Cascada all started life as Opel products subsequently modified for North American tastes and branding. Now with the Opel sold to PSA, Buick's product focus is going to turn towards Chinese tastes. With the pending end of production for the Buick Lacrosse and the cancellation of the Buick Cascada, it leaves Buick with a light product porfolio of just one 4-door hatch, one wagon, and 3 crossovers. According to a report by Automotive News, Bui…

I can't stand reading about Buick sales being down when writers don't analyze the reasons. Buick has fewer models. 10 years ago Buick had several models. For 2006 they offered only 5: Lucerne, LaCrosse, Rendezvous, Rainier and Terrazza, all with various trims. In 1996 they offered 11 models, with various trims. This is why sales are down. I know Buick is now part of the BPG channel, but they could use a few more models. 1. a convertible/coupe, bigger than the Pontiac g-6, more upscale, a real head turner. 2. a smaller SUV to go with the bigger Enclave. 3. a LaCrosse wagon. 1996 Buicks Park Avenue LeSabre Century Century Wagon Re…

Between this summer and 3 years from now, Buick is getting a Zeta-based sedan which will be a little longer than the G8. Pontiac is getting the G8 ST and a revised Solstice. The Lecrosse will be redone on Espilon and will probally be called Regal. Pontiac as a stand alone brand (as well as Buick) is for all practical purposes over. …

Future Watch: Buick Skylark for China in 2009 Link to Original Article @ Inside Line Artist rendering by C.H.U.D. SHANGHAI, China — General Motors will launch a new Buick Skylark compact in China in 2009 that could be exported to the U.S. as a 2010 model. The Skylark will replace the Daewoo-based Excelle in China and will be assembled by the Shanghai GM joint venture, Inside Line has learned. GM also is considering whether to add another Chinese Buick, the new Australia-sourced Park Avenue sedan, to its U.S. lineup in 2009, supplier sources told IL. The new Skylark is based on GM's Delta 2 global small-car architecture. It will share its underpinnings with the next-…

One of the big surprises at the Detroit Auto Show was the Buick Avista concept. The vehicle drew a lot of praise from not only the press but also from the public. “The energy around that car and the interest in it at the shows was amazing,” said Buick's chief marketer Tony DiSalle to Wards Auto. With all of this interest, you think Buick would be making plans to get the Avista into production. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen. DiSalle explained that wasn't enough enthusiasm for the concept to give Buick officials a prompt to approve it. “It was purely a concept and meant to generate some buzz. No other plans for now.” That includes none of the des…

Alright I know I am going to hear the internal competition argument here. But really why not make a Buick kappa with a 3.9 HV V6, we know it will fit or a supercharged 3.9 and a hard top? You could charge about $28,000 for a base model with it coming pretty loaded and sell an Ultra with the 3.9 supercharged v6 or the 3.6 HF V6 and charge $32,000. Seriously it would help fill capacity at Willmington AND it would lower peice cost due to increased volume. Key competitors would be the Chrysler Crossfire and Audi TT. Heck this idea just came to me style it after the Velite OR make it retro styled after late 40s Buicks. Any comments or suggestions guys? Possibly a p…

Buick is rolling out some big changes for the 2018 LaCrosse, including a new eAssist mild hybrid system. The eAssist system is said to be smaller and powerful than the previous system used in the last-generation LaCrosse and Regal eAssist models. A 2.5L four-cylinder is paired with a small electric motor and a 0.45-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that work together to improve acceleration and bump fuel economy - Buick says the system improves city fuel economy by 19 percent when compared to the 3.6L V6. The eAssist powertrain will become the LaCrosse's base powertrain and will lower the price to $30,490 (no mention if this includes destination or not). …

Buick essentially rebodies the Cadillac DTS By Scott Oldham Email Date posted: 04-03-2006 Over the years, we've driven cars that disappoint, cars that irk, cars that thrill. We've even sampled a few that made us laugh. But the 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V8 is the only car we've ever driven that has caused us physical pain. Our Platinum Metallic test vehicle was packed with options, including heated and cooled front seats that cost an extra $1,075. The cooling part of the package was fine, but using the seat heaters, turned the Buick's front seats into torture devices. Now we know what it's like to sit on an open flame. Logbook entries on the subject included: "Call t…

We know a fair amount about the upcoming Buick Regal GS such as what it might look like and a possible powertrain. Thanks a spy photographer, we have got our first look at what is in store for the U.S. The most apparent item that the photos reveal is that the U.S. version of the Regal GS will mostly mimic the one China. Both models feature the aggressive front end with narrow headlights, revised waterfall grille, and large vents in the bumper. The U.S.-spec GS differs from the Chinese one as it will only come in the sportback variant - China gets the sedan. Another key difference is the wheels. Whereas the Chinese-market looks to be sporting some five-spoke wheels wi…

I was wondering if the 0% financing is a cyclical thing, where it happens at the same time(s) of year every year? I think I recall seeing lots of commercials for this around the 4th of July and Labor Day last year. I also just got a notice in the mail that I can get another $750 bonus earnings to be used alongside my GM extended family card earnings. By the sounds of the brochure they sent, I can use all of this in addition to special financing rates. But the offer ends on Feb 28th. Currently Buick is only offering 4.9% or cash back. I would much rather have the 0.0% financing. Does anyone know if there are specific times of year they offer this? Looking to …

Motor Trend has recently bounded the line from bias into pure stupidity, and one of their latest comparisons takes that line even further. In their recent Road Test, comparing the Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Azera and Volkswagen Passat, one thing was glaringly absent -- the Buick Lucerne. For a car that is comparable in every single point of analysis, I can think the desire to match that cool throwback photo from the 1970's the only reason they left it out. But they didn't completely ignore it. When the Azera placed third in the comparion, MT was quick to point out that this car - outsold by the Lucerne nearly 5x over - "was eating Buick's lunch." Friends, this type of jour…

I saw a beautiful license plate at the dealer. It had the colored 1950's Buick shield on top of a reflective plate, $44.00. Is this available for less someplace else.

1. How many new Buicks have you purchased/leased since the 1998 model year? 2. Do you intend to purchase/lease a new Buick in the next two model years? For me: 1. 0 2. no

I've said it here a good dozen times; I think this is a terrible mis-appropriation of the storied nameplate. Sure, the crowd that has come to lean on the overly-simplistic 'A-B-C, 1-2-3' naming mindset will applaud, but it's still a travesty. None-the-less, here it is, threatening to return. Hopefully, it'll be another scenario like the '08 Invicta concept, and it'll remain peacefully dormant.

Will a Chinese Park Avenue be coming to USA? I am hoping Park Avenue and Skylark come back. Buick needs to ditch names like LU CROSS and LOO SERN. Buick needs 3 sedans..Skylark, Regal and Park Avenue.

The Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse are well past their sell-by-date. GM knows this and will be introducing new versions of both within the next year. We haven't seen any spy shots of either model, til today. Autoblog published some spy shots of the next-generation Buick Enclave undergoing some hot-weather testing in Death Valley. From the shots, it looks like Buick will be retaining the shape of the current model. Although, it looks like the roofline has changed somewhat towards the back. We can pick out the new grille that we first saw on the new LaCrosse along with a set of LED running lights. The Enclave is expected to use a stretched version of the Chi…

The Relentless Pursuit of Lexus We once had one of those bosses who would, for the smallest oversight or infraction, growl, stiff-spined and red-faced, "No, no, no, [expletive deleted] no!" Pretty much all of you responded the same way after discovering our test-track results for the 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL with its direct-injection 3.0-liter V6. Come on, guys, you've got it all wrong. A 2-ton Buick powered by a 255-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 that gets to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds (8.1 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like at a drag strip) is not a car that General Motors needs to make apologies for. But OK, you're in full denial mode about the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. We've giv…

From Detroit Free Press interview with Bob Lutz. Not sure what it means for Velite. Any interpretations? Q: Does each of GM's brands need a flag-in-the-ground car to define it like the Solstice does Pontiac? A: Arguably yes. We've got all kinds of great ideas for things we can do with iconic Hummers without getting bigger and bigger. Cadillac is a no-brainer. Someday we're going to do -- it's definitely in the product plan, but not kicked off yet -- we will do an ultra-luxury sedan involving an engine of more than eight cylinders and costing far more than any Cadillac has ever cost before, but not going into the $300,000 area. As Maybach ha…

With Lucerne getting some good press and excitement, I wonder if GM could expand the Lucerne line? Could they easily make a coupe or convertible at Hamtramck? What about a wagon?

Just saw a commercial for the Lucerne CXL on tv, in which it said the car was quieter than some Lexus model, Acura model, and Infiniti model (it named the specific models, I just didn't catch them all) and started at $25,990, I think it was. But what really perked my ears up was the very last statement: "Buick... beyond precision, not beyond your reach." How do you like that line?

It's not much but here's what Buick GM Steve Shannon said yesterday Shannon admitted that he'd like to see a return of the Riviera nameplate on a "halo" model based on the popular Velite concept car of 2004 (pictured above), but that is a low priority at the moment.

On the Buick website, the vehicles listed are....Enclave, LaCrosse, Lucerne, Invicta....not in future vehicles, but the concept does pull up. Think we'll get a surprise and it will be called Invicta after all? Hopefully...the ridiculous, meaningless LaCrosse name should die a quick death, just like the W body. Also, if Invicta is to eventually replace Lucerne, they're going to need something better than LaCrosse. I don't know one import buyer that would EVER consider a "LaCrosse". It will be hard enough to get any young, successful professional to consider a Buick, period. Here's hoping for the best.....

http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0...5/01-237654.htm Detroit News Tuesday, July 5, 2005 Buick extends warranty on entire lineup By John Porretto / Associated Press DETROIT -- Trying to keep pace with high-end competitors, General Motors Corp.'s Buick brand will increase its bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage to four years or 50,000 miles on all 2006 models, up from three years or 36,000 miles, the head of the division said. GM planned to inform dealers of the enhancement Tuesday. In addition to the expanded warranty, Buick will make the OnStar in-vehicle communications system standard on all models beginning in 2006 as well. The new …

"“Look how much fun Buick can be!” That’s what we imagine some Buick dealers will think at the sight of the new 2016 Buick Cascada, an attractive soft-top convertible that’s soon to brighten showrooms everywhere, or at least in the five states the automaker says make up half of all convertible sales—and to buyers who aren’t especially brand-loyal. The Cascada will serve Buick as another brand perception-breaker, and you won’t find a convertible at Acura, Cadillac, or Volvo. At a launch event in Florida, we drove the Buick Cascada with the top down, up, and unfolding at speed to determine whether Audi,BMW, or even Ford should be worried. Although the new-to-the-U.S. 20…
