Buick

Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

  1. At first we thought it had to be a mistake. General Motors is already paying customers to take the 2008 Buick Enclave off their hands? It's not even on dealer lots yet, but Automotive News reports Buick is offering $1,000 "Conquest Bonus Cash" and 4.9% financing available on the $32k+ CUV. Though the "Conquest Cash" is intended to draw non-GM-driving customers away from the competition, no matter the name, rebates on brand new vehicles are obvious admissions of overpricing that only enforce car shoppers' addiction to cash-back offers. If the Enclave performs as well and is as reliable as it is gorgeous, it shouldn't need any incentives. On the other hand, a drop-dea…

So.... This guy is the head of Buick design in Michigan, and I was appalled by his presentation of the Cascada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPL8nxbTKDE Problems I had: "The fit and finish is superior in this vehicle." Superior to what? "It's a very simple interior." You have 46 buttons on the center stack. FORTY-SIX. All touching each other. "This car is not all about the latest technologies.... It's more about the driver's experience, and sense of well-being." Perhaps you shouldn't lead off with saying this car doesn't have the latest technology. "... very simple controls, very simple layout." FORTY-SIX buttons and 4 dials in your center stack,…

  3. I think this is shaping up to be one nice compact sedan for Buick. It is clearly a sedan version of the new Astra, but it appears that GM took a little more effort in ensuring that the front end treatment fit in with the Enclave and 2010 LaCrosse. I provided a link to the article below (Sorry! I'm not sure how to import photos). Link: Baby Buick Spied With Less Camouflage, Source: World Car Fans P.S. I am disappointed that I don't see any ventiports. P.S.S. I also don't want to see this nice looking sedan carry the "Verano" name. I would still settle for "Vectra", personally.

Give it velour or leather, bench or bucket seats and a much-higher power (the CTS' 258hp version) of the 3.6-liter DOHC High Feature V-6 engine.

A coworker's 50k Impala is in the shop (oil and water leaks) so the dealership (my old dealer group actually) gave a new Regal loaner. (disclaimer, they have recently gotten like 10 new 13's that aren't going anywhere any time soon). She is impressed with the car, the leather is 'silky smooth'. It's 'smaller than the Impala though'. Otherwise it's apparently just a nice car. We know the Regals lack some real bling and wow. I like Regals a lot. I think a big problem is it is not much bigger than a Verano, but it sells at a near LaCrosse price. Malibu Turbo is arguably the same car with the possibility for a better price. 14. Buick's compact car, the Verano may not see an encore after the model run is up at the end of the 2017 model year according to a report on AutoNews.com. With the addition of the Buick Envision going on sale in a few weeks, Buick see crossovers making up 70% of its sales going forward. It's not hard to see why Buick would come to that conclusion. GM sales figures for December 2015 show the Verano moving 31,886 copies for the year while the similarly priced Buick Encore sold 67,549 units. Buick's strategy lately has been to fill "white space" in the market. Offer models that don't quite have an exact match to offerings from any other brand. When the Verano debuted …

Have you seen the color chips for the new Buicks, particularly for the LaCrosse? Disappointing. The Dark Mocha is basically a dark root beer brown and not a sable type shade. The Midnight Blue is almost black. The Gold Mist looks like a urine sample. The 2 reds are pretty mainstream; that is, no deep burgundy or a "cool" shade like Mulberry seen on Cadillacs and SUVs in years past Lastly, the absence of a Light Quartz equivalent is bad news for a brand that sells well in light blues. Overall, I find the color palette too dark. Do you agree?

The switch was prompted by a desire to refocus Buick marketing on the product, the company said. "We don't want a celebrity at the core of any brand. The redesigned full-size crossover will now begin at $40,970, almost $1,000 more than the current model. But considering how much standard equipment the new model comes with, it seems quite fair. All Enclaves feature keyless entry, hands-free liftgate, three-zone automatic climate control, eight-inch infotainment system with Buick Intellilink, Rear Seat Reminder, and Teen Driver. The Essence comes up next and the option of all-wheel drive. Prices begin at $45,190 for the FWD model and $47,190 for AWD. Premium comes next with prices of $48,990 and $51,290…

  64. Over a week ago, we brought you news that the upcoming Buick Regal GS would be powered by a V6 engine. We now have confirmation about this thanks to a document from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The Truth About Cars obtained a CARB Emissions document for the 3.6L V6. On the last page, the document lists all of the models that will be equipped with this engine for the 2018 model year. One of them listed was a Buick Regal and it is believed to be the GS. The document also reveals the GS will only come with an automatic (a nine-speed). We still don't know how much horsepower the Regal GS will be packing. The 3.6L V6 offers between 305 to 335 horsepower dep…

Can anyone post some real world pics of the 2007 Lucerne so we can see the colors accurately? I was just on their website and unfortunately they are not true to life depictions. My local dealers don't have much other than white, black, and silver. LIke to see the sagemist metallic, Ming Blue, Dark Claret, and the sandstone(?) darker beige color. Also I didn't see this on the Buick site, but can the interior be had with anything other than the woodgrain trim?

So, Garmin has a new commercial in which the guy is driving a Lucerne... with a Garmin GPS mounted on top of his dash. I was amused that although the car offers two forms of navigation for him to choose from, he's using a Garmin. Yes, I know it's a commercial. Was just amused.

  67. We know the latest product that Buick dealers will be getting in the near future is the Cascada convertible starting sometime early next year. But what comes after that? Automotive News has done some sleuthing and has come up with possible timeline of what to expect from 2016 to 2019. 2016 First up is a redesign of the Buick Verano that will likely appear in the second half of 2016. The model is expected to grow in length and interior size. Either a 1.4T or 1.5T will be the base engine, while a new version of the 2.0T will be available. Next is the LaCrosse which will get a full redesign that will go on sale next fall. Spy shots show the model grow in size. The new…

An article by Rick Popely and Jim Mateja in today's Chicago Tribune, "Age-old battle for Buick: Models aimed at younger buyers haven't helped the venerable GM brand reverse a long trend of its buyers being among the oldest in the auto industry -- at 65, nearly 20 years above the average," has some interesting facts. And it also claims that "Global Insight forecasts that a smaller crossover, a version of the Saturn Vue, will arrive in 2008. In 2009, the LaCrosse is expected to be redesigned and renamed Regal, bringing back a popular nameplate. The front-wheel-drive Lucerne could be replaced by a larger rear-drive sedan in 2010, perhaps as the Riviera." Click here for the…

  75. Ok, guys, no debating how good or how bad or how old...we've been down that road before. Through (inclusively speaking) which model year is this engine to be produced? I know that there was a guy who would show up once in a blue moon on the old website with all kinds of good technical info, including this engine, but he doesn't appear to be around. So, please post if you know some concrete info on the end of production for this engine. Gracias.

How Sweet it is! An age-old battle for Buick June 15, 2007 The 2008 Buick Enclave with 20-inch wheel. CHICAGO - When General Motors announced plans three years ago to revive its Buick brand with a string of new models aimed at younger buyers, it was to reduce the average owner's age of 63, among the oldest in the industry. Today, the average Buick buyer is 65, according to the Power Information Network, the data-gathering unit of J.D. Power and Associates. That is the oldest and 19 years senior to the industry average. Its image as a geriatric brand continues to haunt Buick despite years of fighting against it. In the 1980s, for example, Buick offered turbo…

I just received the most recent edition of Motor Trend and they tested the big 3 large V6 American sedans (no Avalon or Azera). 1: Chrysler 300 2: Buick Lucerne 3: Mercury Montego I figured they would rate the Montego higher based on what the article said. Apparently, the Montego had the nicest interior of the bunch and handled well, too. It even beat the Lucerne to 60MPH and it had AWD. The 300 ended up being the most well rounded of the bunch.

  79. I hope this is a change that will take place across the model lines! Get rid of the alphanumeric designations for Pontiac and Cadillac. I don't think the name changes have helped GM. It takes more money to advertise an unfamiliar model. HOW SWEET IT IS! I hope GM doesn't change their mind and go back to Lacrosse!! When the Japanese have a dud, they don't change the name..they change the styling or other attributes about the car. Don't expect Altima, Accord, Camry, Civic or Corolla to change names anytime soon. Maybe Cavalier and Grand Am needed a name change. But the other models? Nah. Is the Cobalt selling any better than the Cav? Colorado selling any better than…

With Congress still yet to decide the fate of GM's return to profitability plan, Buick's role has potentially transformed from a 'niche' brand in the USA back into a core brand… a core brand that could potentially offer a full line of cars with the possibility of a crossover or two when all is said and done. So, what should Buick's line-up look like when all the pieces fall into place? Several suggestions have been tossed around in other related topics, but let's try to consolidate our future visions of Buick's line-up here. A wishlist line-up if you will... I'll start: (Yes, I'm borrowing from some suggestions already given because I agree with them ) CUVs …

  86. So, went window shopping for new Buicks today. Wife was pretty well set on a LaCrosse but found the Verano an interesting option too (she referred to it as the 'baby LaCrosse'). She hates Sunday 'window shopping' as she wants to get behind the wheel and go for a test drive. She loved the LaCrosse courtesy car last week and is curious as to the ride of the Verano in comparison. I'm going to try to get her to the dealership early this week for a test drive. Can anyone here who has driven a Verano and a LaCrosse provide me with input on these two cars, especially any pros/cons to each one?

  87. I keep looking at the relentless decline in Buick's sales numbers and wonder how much time the name has left. I was pretty excited about the LaCrosse when it first arrived (maybe because it looked so much better than the cars it replaced), but now it's starting to look fairly dated already. The same with the Lucerne (though to be fair I've not seen one in person here in LA). What will the sales numbers look like a year or two from now when the Enclave is introduced? And then another few years after that when the Epsilon II replacement arrives and later (maybe) Zeta? I wonder, too, how well Enclave will do compared to Arcadia both being sold at the same dealers? We m…

The picture at Buick is much brighter than the sales numbers indicate. Buick numbers did drop last year, roughly the same plunge Pontiac took, but the brand had fewer models than in 2004. It also went nearly 2 months without a full-size model offering during the LeSabre/Lucerne switchover. Optimism is high at GM for Buick for the following reasons: 1. Retail sales are up from 2004 as fleet sales are reduced. 2. Lucerne sales are off to a good start. In the month of December, the first full month of Lucerne production, more people bought Buick Lucernes than bought all 6 models from the entire Saab Division. 3. Despite nearing the end of its run, Rendezvou…
