Buick

Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, Buick is one of America’s oldest automobile brands and the oldest active division of General Motors (GM). Known for pioneering innovations like the overhead valve engine, Buick became a symbol of affordable luxury throughout the 20th century. It played a key role in GM’s growth and today positions itself between Chevrolet and Cadillac, offering premium vehicles in both the U.S. and China—its largest market.

Earlier in the year C&G uncovered images of a yet to be seen Buick model that we were unsure of its origin. However with the latest news on a new "Super" line of Buicks set to be released the obvious became clear. We've found the new face of the LaCrosse. We expect this FWD, V8 LaCrosse to debut late in '07 with the entire line-up featuring this new grille and facia look in '08. 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6 Test Drive Over the weekend I test drove a 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V6, the vehicle I am thinking about buying. The test drive car was a well equipped (only lacking the Heated and Cooled Seats) Ming Blue Lucerne with the tuxedo interior. The interior in my opinion was well done, yes there is plastic but the plastic has a nice matte look and feel to it, giving the impression of a more expensive car. The seats were comfortable and it was easy to find the right driving position. The simulated wood look extremely well and it looked as if it was hand polished just for the vehicle. The controls and all of the buttons felt as if they belonged on a …

I also think GME has there own thing going on. While Buick is central to GMAP. I am a huge fan of The Lacrosse design. And the 2 main designers Justin Thompson, and Richard Duff are with GMAP now. Duff With Patac, and Thompson back at Holden. And Gmap has done some really nice Buick concepts. The IMO Gorgeous Riv concept GMAP also has Both RWD/AWD and FWD/AWD platforms to build on. 5. As we reported last month, Buick decided not to send the Avista into production. While the reason given at the time was due to not "enough enthusiasm for the concept," we had a sneaking suspicion there was more to that decision. Sure enough, Automotive News chatted with Buick global brand chief Duncan Aldred who explained the Avista wasn't "a massive opportunity in China." There is also the matter of priorities of which projects should go ahead or not. "Emotionally, you'd love to build it. I would buy one with my own money and put it in the garage," said Aldred. "The trouble is, I'm never looking at only one project. I'm always looking at several. I've got to …

Well my wife has been whispering in my ear that she wants a new SUV to replace the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD that she drives. I got the chance to compare LaCrosses at the ASIM in Pomona on Sunday and came away pleasantly surprised with the car. First, I drove the CXL (3800, base suspension) and while it was a bit floaty, it was not NEAR as bad as I thought it would be. I'd compare it to a base Camry or Avalon. The engine, however, was pretty bad. I'm no pushrod fan, but I don't ever remember the 3800 being this sluggish and unresponsive. I had to floor the gas throughout the course to get any response from the engine or tranny. Overall, however, not bad for a base car. Next was the CXS and while it didn't feel that much firmer than the base car, it lacked the float and rol…

Wow is all I have to say. I know it's new, but I've noticed typos, I don't care for the layout, and there's a reduction in the number of pictures they show for each model. And only 3 of the colors available on the LaCrosse (black, light silver and brown) are the only colors you DON'T have to pay extra for. And the price of the base LaCrosse went up by over a thousand. The price of the base Lucerne went up about 2500. You now pay over $30,000 if you want a base Lucerne that still doesn't have a telescoping steering wheel and comes with a manual a/c, while the base LaCrosse has tilt/telescopic and auto a/c. One of the pictures is of the gear selector, and the capti…

Parked next to a LaCrosse and Regal in total harmony. The Regal has a more avante garde look, but the Verano does have the looks to sell. Indeed. Makes the Focus look cheap and tawdry. Through the window, the interior looked consistent in quality to the Regal and the seats and dash look great. All the controls look really similar to the Regal's. Front seat looks spacious, rear looks tight for leg room. Seats looks very well sculpted. MPG on sticker of course is not eye popping, but sensible buyers will com…

The engine choices would need to be altered for the U.S. market though. The turbo 4 would need to be the base engine with the 3.0 DI V6 serving as the optional engine. These engine offerings would keep the Regal positioned below the upcoming LWB Eps II LaCrosse, which I believe will have the 3.0 DI V6 as standard equipment and the 3.6 DI V6 as an optional engine. As many have read my review of the Lucerne, i loved what i saw and drove. a black on black CXS with all the chrome trim was the best looking GM car i have seen to date, with the exception of the CTS-V…

In today's Detroit Free Press, Katie Merx writes some very positive things about the Buick Enclave, and offers a couple of interesting quotes from Bob Lutz. Mr. Lutz states, "The future of Buick does not hinge on the success of the Enclave." Rather, he said, to return Buick to its historic role as GM's "near-luxury brand" in the United States, it must continue to offer vehicles in that same vein. "There will never again be a 'cheap Buick,'" Lutz said. "They will never again be priced down with Chevrolet. But they will offer outstanding value for the price asked." News New Lucerne to dominate Buick ad spending; vehicle to get special Tiger Woods pitch JAMIE LAREAU | Automotive News Posted Date: 11/17/05 WASHINGTON -- Buick will focus its national advertising and nearly one-fourth of its budget on the new Lucerne sedan in the first quarter of 2006. The Lucerne is a "very big part" of Buick's advertising budget for next year, Steve Shannon, Buick general manager, told Automotive News at a press event here. Buick will spend well over 20 percent of its first-quarter advertising budget promoting the Lucerne, Shannon says. That's about $9 million, based on this year's figures. Buick spent nearly $46 mi…

Chicago Tribune Auto Reporter Jim Mateja offers a few "They Said It" quotes in a feature called "Glove Box," in the Feb. 19, 2006 paper. Here's what Bob Lutz, Head of Product Development at GM, said about Buick: 'I think every division should have a performance car-even Buick, though at Buick it wouldn't be a pony car.' Who thinks he's got the Buick LaCrosse Super in mind?

Yep, that time has come. The quick little mentionings of our '04 Suburban being too much of a gas hog than it's worth have gotten serious. It has trully done an awesome job of carting lots of people and lots of stuff when those times arose, but they too are getting few and far between anymore. And, let's face it, a Suburban is a little excessive for one person's daily commuting--and it's usually just that one person in there 90% of the time. But, I digress. Gas mileage, of course, is at the top of the requirements list for a prospective replacement. My mother has become a HUGE VW fan lately, especially because of the '05 Jetta TDI diesel a co-worker has that she th…

Of course nothing this good would happen but I did enjoy some of the chops found on this site, in particular the boat tail Velite they chopped. If they made a vehicle that looked like that for Buick it'd put the Corvette to shame (so obviously they won't do it)... but that would be one beautiful vehicle. Here is the link: http://www.gminsidenews.com/naias/revitalization/ I found out about it via an Edmunds article that is roughly 2 weeks old but I did not notice anything on here about it and thought I'd share. It's cute how the article points out their severe bias in their "What this means to you" section which exclaims: "At least somebody is still excited about Buick.…

  84. We have been waiting to get our first look at the next-generation Buick Regal since spy shots of Opel Insignia first surfaced back in August. Well today, Motor Authority got their hands on the first spy shots of the next Regal. Much like the Insignia spy shots, the Regal mule is heavily camouflaged. But there is on detail that we can pull from the pictures. It looks like Buick is sticking with the sedan design. The Insignia spy shots revealed a fastback roof that was similar to the Audi A7. The Regal is expected to use the E2XX platform that currently underpins the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. It is expected that Opel will reveal the Insignia at the Paris Motor Show…

Nice, classy exterior; comfortable-looking interior and the supercharged Ultra = sleeper possibilities. No one ever suspects the Park Avenue...

I love Buicks. My parents drove them and still do, and I learned how to drive on a LeSabre and an Estate Wagon. My first car was a Skylark. It rocked. Buicks have impeccable quality, power, and in most cases, pretty cool styling. I'd love to buy one, but they need to make a car for 30-somethings, without abandoning their core market. Here's what GM should do with Buick: 1. Develop a coupe. Lexus has one, so does Mercedes, Infiniti, Acura and Volvo. If you want to be a premium brand, you need a 2 door. For most of Buick's existence, they've offered one, except for the past 8 years or so. Remember Skylark, LeSabre, Riviera,…

I happen to like the LaCrosse, but sales are down the past couple of months. It also gets some unfair criticism in the media, called bland by some. Bland=Camry. Anyway, what changes could be made before the '07 models start rolling out? More chrome? Portholes? I saw a picture somewhere of a LaCrosse with portholes (ebay I think) and it looked cool. My dealer told me some dealerships are putting the portholes on.

  90. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 7, 2012 Today, Buick announced some powertrain changes for the 2013 Regal. First, the 2013 Regal will bid adieu to the base 2.4L four-cylinder and make the Regal eAssist the base. The Regal eAssist uses a 2.4-liter inline-four engine with a 15-kW electric motor to return EPA fuel economy ratings of 25 City/36 Highway MPG. Also, the Regal GS gains an optional six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic is designed to broaden the appeal of the Regal GS. Buick says the automatic Regal GS can reach 60 in 6.7 seconds and return 19 City/27 Highway MPG, identical to the manual transmission. The Automatic is a no…

[source: Car and Driver] 2011 Buick Regal - Spied The Chinese-market Regal has been caught testing in America. What does that mean for U.S. sales? Buick is on the rebound in its home market, with the successful Enclave crossover and the appealing 2010 LaCrosse leading the charge. Could it continue with the reincarnation of the Regal? Spied on American soil was a camouflaged Chinese-market Buick Regal, itself a re-grilled and rebadged European 2010 Opel Insignia. Just what the covered-up Regal was doing here is anyone's guess, especially considering that it's already fully exposed on Buick's Chinese website. But speculatio…

I was at B and N working on a paper this AM. After some coffee, I went over to the magazine area. I saw that Car and Driver reviewed the Lucerne. Overall, the review was positive. It praised the craftsmanship and the quality of the product. It seemed a little shortchanged on the power of the V8 engine. But, overall, not bad. The first picture one encounters is indeed flattering. The one comment that bugged me is that the styling piggybacks onto that of the mid 90s Camry. How is that? I think that the Lucerne's styling is closely aligned with that of the large VW Phaeton. In fact, one day I was driving down the freeway and thought that the car 1/4 mile ahead o…

  96. If there is one vehicle that Buick dealers would like, it would be a model to slip between the subcompact Encore and full-size Enclave crossovers. Buick does have such a model, the compact Envision crossover which has been on sale in China since last year. In fact, some Buick dealers were polled about this very vehicle back in 2013. Two years on, many are scratching their heads as to why the Envision isn't here. "It would fit perfectly in the Buick lineup at a time when crossover sales are growing fast. I'm sure a lot of Buick dealers wish they had it today," said Jack Nerad, executive market analyst at Kelley Blue Book. Now many believe that the Envision will be …

Just saw the November issue of Motor Trend at the bookstore, and, in a column of bits and pieces titled "MT Confidential," it was stated (in pretty much these words) that once and for all, according to their spies, the Buick rear-drive program is dead and there is nothing on the horizon. What does this mean for the future of Buick then? Does future product planning hinge on the sales of the Lucerne? Is the Buick Lambda crossover the last to debut so that, given the worst circumstances, it could be canceled?

  99. Buick has a new crossover in China. Meet the Envision, which will sit between the Encore and Enclave crossovers. The new midsize model features elements of the Encore and LaCrosse with an oversized grille, faux hood vents, distinctive headlights, and chrome trim running along the rear hatch. Inside is Buick's wraparound dash with a mix of leather, wood, and metal throughout. There's a noise-canceling system in the vehicle to provide a quiet ride, along with a eight-inch touchscreen for infotainment duties. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This is paired up to a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Bu…
