Edmunds Drives the Compass It should be noted as a general rule, I try to find the best picture of a car to use when I post a news entry. This was quite a task with the Compass because it is in my opinion, the worst-looking SUV since the Aztek (yes, it has dethroned the X3). This is about the only image where the thing doesn't look completely pug-fugly. I could wax lyrical about the Compass' looks all day but of course, you clicked this thread to read Edmunds' take on it, not mine. So without further rambling, here you go: Read "First Drive: 2007 Jeep Compass" @ Edmunds Damn, what an ugly car...

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced yesterday that it would be recalling 1,908,911 vehicles worldwide due to the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners possibly not deploying in the event of a crash. Approximately 1.4 million vehicles involved in the recall are in the U.S. In a statement released by FCA, the issue deals with a specific restraint control module and front impact sensor wiring. "The condition may occur when vehicles equipped with a particular occupant restraint control module and front impact sensor wiring of a specific design, are involved in certain collisions. If all these factors are present, there may be an increased potential for occupant injury.”…

Johnson, Ap Auto Writers – 23 mins ago DETROIT – Italy's Fiat is the new owner of most of Chrysler's assets, closing a deal Wednesday that saves the troubled U.S. automaker from liquidation and places a new company in the hands of Fiat's CEO. The deal creates a leaner company known as Chrysler Group LLC, which is not in bankruptcy protection and is free of billions in debt, 789 underperforming dealerships and burdensome labor costs that hobbled the old Chrysler LLC. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne immediately was named CEO of the new company, which said in a statement that it would soon…

The Nov. MT has the Viper SRT-10 in it (full test). I didn't read much of it as I don't really have time right now, but here's the performance numbers: 0-60: 4.2s 1/4 Mile: 12.2s @ 118.0 mph 600-foot slalom: 69.5 mph (avg) Lateral acceleration: .94g MT figure 8: 24.6s @ .79g (avg) I can't find the numbers for the Z06 test from MT, but I believe it was 0-60 in 3.5s and 1/4 mile in 11.7 @ 125 mph. If anyone could find the other stuff (I can't find my issue) it'd be appreciated.

The end is coming for Fiat Chrysler Automobile's CEO Sergio Marchionne. In a interview with Bloomberg, Marchionne says he will step down in 2018, the same time that his second five year plan will end. “I’ll undoubtedly do something else” after the end of 2018, said Marchionne. "I am not going to do any more turnarounds. I’m done; let some of the young punks do it.” Marchionne, 62, became the CEO of Fiat in 2004 and helped triple the automaker's revenue over the subsequent years. He was also a key person in the company's acquisition of Chrysler. There is no mention of who will be successor to Marchionne. But the current CEO does mention his role may be split among a num…

Here's a bit of head scratcher. A member of the Allpar.com forum did a bit of poking around Chrysler's secure dealer site, DealerConnect and found an interesting configuration for the 2015 200. The site listed a a 2.2L 16-valve “DeTomaso” turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. Now Automotive News was able to confirm the existence of this engine on the site. So what could this engine be? Well Automotive News has learned that Alfa Romeo is working a 2.2L turbodiesel producing somewhere between 135 and 210 horsepower. If Alfa Romeo was to share this engine, it would give the Volkswagen Passat TDI some much needed competition. But what the “DeTomaso” name? This is speculated to b…

Also, someone over at GMI pointed this out...go check out the Chrysler website. There is a button for "Ask Dr. Z" that takes you nowhere. On the Sebring page, there is a contest titled "My life. My car. My mess." to find the messiest car. Then, on the Sebring page, you click on details for more info and just get some pictures, like clicking on the 2.4L button just shows you a picture of the Sebring engine. And on the exterior pictures link under "style," all the Sebrings are photoshopped into the background image. Seriously, what gives?

As we learned this morning from Bob Nardelli's appearance on CNBC, Chrysler LLC is getting into the electric vehicle game and plans to have something on the market by the end of 2010 – the same time GM plans to start selling the 2011 Chevy Volt. The vehicle in question will be one of these three EVs, all of which are powered fully or in part by electrons. The first and perhaps most exciting is the Dodge EV, which is an all-electric sports car like the Tesla Roadster. In fact, Chrysler seems to have taken a few pages from Tesla's playbook, which is evident by the fact that its EV is wearing the body of a Lotus Europa at the moment. Lotus also worked with Tesla on the dev…

There has been a lot of speculation and rumors the past year or two as to what would be the next SRT8 engine. From 6.4 to 6.7 to 7.0 and a few other "liters". There was also talk of the "392" only being available as a crate motor. I was told a couple years ago at the SEMA show that the "392" would ONLY be referred to as a "392" and NOT a "6.4", but recent documents list it as "6.4"... maybe they will still call it a "392" for the Challenger, who knows. Well, the next SRT8 engine WILL be a 6.4L SMPI engine with specs similar to the 392, more than 500 HP with similar numbers for torque. The new engine will debut in the SRT8 version of the Challenger, rumored for the 2009 m…

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is facing an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission over their sales reporting practices. Bloomberg learned about the investigation from two sources this morning and since then, FCA has confirmed it. This investigation stems from lawsuits filed earlier this year by dealers in Florida and Illinois saying the automaker inflated sales numbers by having them file false 'New Vehicle Delivery Reports'. At the time, FCA denied the charges made and is seeking dismissal of the suit. But as Automotive News notes, FCA added a disclaimer to their sales reports in April about how sales are reported. “FC…

Chrysler's EVs are for real When Chrysler rolled out three electric vehicle prototypes a couple of weeks ago most EV experts were skeptical. They were even more skeptical when the company claimed that it would have an EV on sale by 2010. Wait a minute, everyone wondered, how could Chrysler have caught up with GM, Nissan and other automakers who have been working on EV's for a lot longer? Well, to hear Chrysler tell it, it's not behind at all. It is the first major automaker to actually allow members of the media and dealers to drive its production-intent EV's. The company claims it's been working on EV's for at least two and a half years-or about the same time as the …

Auto company demanding that its two assembly plants become the most efficient in their classes in North America DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc. is demanding that its two assembly plants become the most efficient in their classes in North America, which would force the auto maker to slash a significant number of jobs in Windsor and Brampton, Ont., union sources say. Former Toyota USA President Jim Press Never Owned A Toyota Or Lexus The Chrysler media blog's got an interview with the new Vice-Chairman of "The New Chrysler," Jim Press. Much of it's a nice little flufferview of the guy who until being snagged by Cerberus, spent thirty years at Toyota, eventually becoming President of Toyota USA and the only non-Japanese ToMoCo board member. Still, at the end of the interview was a little blurb that stood out as shockingly note-worthy: "Press has always loved cars. In a discussion about their pending merger, Fiat Chrysler revealed that the combined company's future vehicles in the small to mid-size range will be built on two of PSA's platforms. The reasoning behind it is that PSA's platforms are more modern than FCA's which first debuted in 2003. They are also capable of a wider range of propulsion methods like electrification that are harder to incorporate into the aging platform that FCA is using. The smaller of the two platforms, PSA's CMP, launched last year is found under the Peugeot 208, 2008, DS 3 Crossback and the new Opel Corsa. The larger platform is called EMP2 and launched in 2016. It underpins the Peugeot 3008…

http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A...UTO01/602090391 While I will give Chrysler credit for being profitable and gaining market share, could they be sprouting a leak? They do seem to have some fairly exciting new products coming (I like the Caliber, Nitro and some of the things coming from Jeep), but you have to wonder if they can keep up the momentum.

Chery's U.S. car likely to cost $10,000 Analysts call initial quote of $7,000 too low Link to Original Article @ Detroit Free Press Chrysler is unlikely to roll out a $7,000 car when it brings the first Chery-made American-brand small car to the U.S. market in 2009, U.S. industry analysts said Thursday. Rather than hit the streets with an extremely cheap set of wheels, Chrysler and Chery will more likely beef up the Chery A1 to about $10,000 with features and content expected by American consumers. Shortly after the Chinese government gave the OK to a deal between the two automakers, Chrysler CEO Tom LaSorda said his company would begin selling cars made by Chery Aut…

If you ever rent a midsize from Advantage Rent a Car, you will most likely get a 2-door Chrysler Sebring hardtop coupe instead of the Stratus 4-door which is ubiqutous in other fleets. My first impression is that this is a decent looking car. (I don't like the convertible). However, in pricing it, it is not competitive with a much more substantial purchase like a LaCrosse or Impala. Plus, for some unknown reason, the price differential between their 4 doors and the coupe is an eye-opener. Plus side: Good looks, nice instrument area, fun to drive Negative side: Price/value, C/R does not like it, not the most practical However, I voted YES. There are very fe…

Chrysler Hopes to Consolidate Dealerships Voluntary program targets Toyota's per-store sales By MARY CONNELLY | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 02/16/06, 10:06 am et In a bid to boost dealership profits and sales, the Chrysler group wants more metropolitan stores selling the company's three brands under one roof. "One thing that is very important to us is if our dealers are profitable, and a key to profitability is throughput," says Mike Manley, Chrysler group vice president of dealer operations. Throughput is the number of new vehicles a store sells annually. Combining Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge in a single metropolitan store increases sales volume beyond…

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103446 $17,000 or so to start-aluminum wheels better be standard, along with that 2.4. for that price-a 1.8-liter I-4 just won't cut it regardless of whether or not it has 130hp-this isn't Europe, and they should've learned something from Chevy with the 2.2-liter HHR models. Have fun losing sales Dodge without a real compact car.

The United States isn't the only place the Dodge Caliber is selling like hot cakes. According to a report by Automotive News Europe, the Caliber is enjoying a great deal of success in many European markets, with many customers now facing six-month waiting lists. "We underestimated demand for the product," Chrysler's Thomas Hausch told the trade publication. So far, the car has been on the market for three months overseas. Sales thus far have totaled 3,238 Calibers in western Europe. In 2005, Dodge sold 311 vehicles in total in the same market. The vehicles are selling "without any incentives," a major dealer in Paris said.

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 17, 2012 Chrysler announced today that they will idle their Mack II engine plant in Detroit in September as production of the 3.7L V6 comes to an end. The 3.7L V6 powered the Dodge Nitro, Dodge Ram, and Jeep Liberty. The Dodge Nitro has already been shown the door. The current Jeep Liberty will end its run next month as the Toledo, Ohio plant where it’s built undergoes a $500 million upgrade. The Ram drops the 3.7L V6 for the 3.6L Pentastar V6 due out later this year. About 200 employees who work at the Mack II engine plant have received received layoff notices but won’t lose their jobs. Following the news last week that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was under investigation by both the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission over inflated sales, Automotive News has learned from various sources that an investigation done by the company revealed misreported sales numbers. According to the sources, FCA ordered an internal review last year over their sales reporting. What the review found is "that 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles had been reported as sold by dealers and then "unwound." It is unknown the time period that was covered by the review. After the review, U.S. sales head Reid Bigland attempted to put a stop to the practice. But a source s…

Chrysler to shut down plants for a full month by Chris Shunk on Dec 17th 2008 at 6:28PM Link to Autoblog It's no secret that Chrysler is in the fight of its life, and the Auburn Hills automaker is pulling out all the stops to keep the lights on -- even if it means closing the doors. Chrysler is shuttering all of its plants for one month, beginning December 19. In a short release to the media, Chrysler blamed the continued credit crunch as the main reason for the shutdown, and is trying to better-align its vehicle stock with customer demand. Dealers have notified the Pentastar that they've got plenty of perspective buyers, but an astonishing 20-25% of customers are un…

Photos courtesy www.Rustalk.com The new front of the CLS Shark II provides for sportiness and individuality. After the CLS Shark I provided plenty of sensation in the tuning scene, Asma felt compelled to expand on the concept. With this new aerodynamic package the Asma CLS Shark II achieves a high level of sportiness. The new front, with an extended grill, adjusted to the aggressive body kit transforms the Asma CLS Shark II into a real eye catcher. As if by the hand of Picasso, the air intakes…

First Look: 2011 Chrysler 300 Prepare for Glory: Our 2005 Car of the Year Returns With Sharper Duds and a lot More Swagger December 03, 2010 / By Ed Loh / Photography by Brian Vance The golden crest is gone, but the Chrysler name is still spelled out and surrounded by a pair of wings atop the front-grille frame. The eggcrate grille has been swapped for one composed of sculpted horizontal slats, as seen on the Chrysler 200 and Town & Country (and, unfortunately, the Hyundai Sonata). Projector-beam headlights have evolved to incorporate must-mean-it's-luxury LEDs. Although the windshield is more steeply raked, the upright proportions, boxy roofline, and pur…

Sorry no pics at this time, but it was cool looking. It had bulged out fenders front and rear. The intercooler for the turbo was in plain site, the front bumper looked to be a little cobbled on to fit around the intercooler. It had quite a large tailpipe on it, like something you would see on a local rice burner that makes a lot of noise but goes no where fast. The guy in the car was hauling ass so I had to haul ass too, to keep up with him. He actually got on it a lot to get away from me because he spotted me eyeing it, too much for him I guess! Nice exhaust sound though, very deep sounding. The wheels did not look production, I would say they were anywhere from 17-18" w…

Chrysler: $1,000 for your sedan Bonus is designed to lure drivers who lease midsize cars from Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan. Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News Link to Original Article @ DetNews DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group is so sure its redesigned Chrysler Sebring sedan can hold its own in the tough midsize sedan market that it will give $1,000 in cash to any shopper who trades in a Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima or Ford Fusion for a 2007 Sebring. The offer is available through Nov. 30 to customers who are currently leasing the rival sedans, according to several Chrysler dealers. Chrysler is counting on the made-over Sebring to attract new buyers …

There is speculation in the greater Toronto media, starting yesterday, that Mississauga, Ontario based parts supplier Magna is looking at buying Chrysler. The reaction in the lunch room here was largely that people would consider Chrysler again, if it were Canadian, and especially if it were based in the GTA (greater Toronto). What would your reaction be to a Canadian owned Chrysler? How would the UAW respond?

I actually saw a 2008 Caliber SRT4 today, and was reasonably impressed. I think it falls into the same category as the SRT4 based on the Neon for me, I don't "mind" the base vehicle, but the SRT4 package on either is almost a different car to me. It didn't seem outrageously expensive, just over the $25,000 mark, it was a heckuva "bang for the buck" deal for someone.... it was on a car lot but it was already sold. I wonder if it was an ordered car, it was the first one I have ever seen. The hood wasn't just a single scoop in the middle, I thought the single hood scoop was what they were getting? Cool little interior too!

Posted Aug 22nd 2008 9:28AM by Jeremy Korzeniewski Filed under: Minivans/MPVs, Humor What would happen if an old Plymouth Horizon mated with a Plymouth Voyager? See above. Despite the fact that Chrysler used to offer its minivans with two different wheelbases, this is a vehicle that was fortunately never released out of the factory doors. Our guess is that the owner, like us, never really cared for those old non-powered sliding doors anyway. Why not just get rid of 'em completely? Our favorite view of the bus shows that there's nearly as much front-overhang as there is metal between the axles. In all seriousness, the work that went into cutting this sucker in third…

Only one transmission away from a success If you ever had any doubt that it's better to be the younger sibling, check out the 2007 Jeep Patriot. The boxy 2007 Patriot compact SUV is the third vehicle the Chrysler Group has spun off its new small-car platform. First there was the Dodge Caliber — the odd-looking hunchback hatchback with a cheap interior and lackluster performance. Then there was the Jeep Compass — a vehicle so utterly wrong-headed that, in the future, a Ph.D. candidate in marketing will write a thesis about it. Fortunately the 2007 Jeep Patriot is the best of this otherwise dysfunctional family. Rendezvous syndrome Perhaps it's the Rendezvous synd…

First of all I like this website In l.a. around the afternoon i saw this chrysler in a gas station, so (luckly) i had my camera at the time and took a couple of pic. The first pic it looks like it "bending", because it's the camera fault. Here's some bits and pieces of this chrysler; - This appears to be a "base" chrysler: wheel covers, cloth seating, single exhaust pipe, black outside mirrors. - The front end grill is similar to the current crossfire - There are structureless wiper blades. - Headlights are a two bulb and a turn-signal setup which looks like a mix of the crossfire and that 5-door chrysler concept ( i forgot the name) - the back is complet…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com March 18, 2013 The current Chrysler 200 will have a short 2014 model year according to some internal documents. Automotive News got their hands on the documents and report that production of the 2014 Chrysler 200 will start in July at Chrysler's Sterling Heights plant in Michigan and end in the second week of January. A bit surprising since production usually would run well through 2014. This has led everyone to think the next-generation 200 is just around the corner. This is further substantiated by Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne saying the introduction of the new 200 would be delayed till early next year. All we k…
