Saving Chrysler. Maybe. Cerberus is not out to bail out the automaker for the good of America. What the firm—and the union—really want. (Taken from Newsweek) May 14, 2007 - Detroit was stunned Monday morning to wake up to the news that Chrysler had been sold to Cerberus Capital Management, a Wall Street private equity firm named for the three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hell. The unsettling news grew even more ominous when one of the Detroit TV stations began broadcasting the news conference live from Germany with a stern-sounding German translator drowning out the English being spoken by DaimlerChrysler Chairman Dieter Zetsche. It all reminded me of that R.E.M…

While not officially confirmed by Chrysler, the union chief for the Windsor plant where Pacifica is built appears to have spilled the beans. 71. William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com January 13, 2012 Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne on comfirmed on Wednesday that a new Ram Dakota is being worked on. Sergio also said that there was a "better than 50 percent chance" the truck will be a unibody. Now if that seems like bad news, there is some good news. Marchionne said that diesel power in the new Dakota is a likely option. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is set to get a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 in the U.S. next year, so spreading the cost of the engine over several vehicles would be to the company’s advantage. Also rumored to get the turbodiesel is the Dodge Durango. Source: Inside Line, Ward's Auto View full…

Yesterday I grabbed the paper off the front porch, normally I don't bother but this time I picked it up. On the front page read "Manzi car dealership closes" Link To Artcile Clark Chrysler in the next town bought them and will start selling Dodge vehicles in addition to Chrysler and Jeep. I was there the other day...nice place but while friendly, felt like it was forced friendliness. Long story short, this dealer has been part of the community for a long time, and has offered excellent and friendly service. I took my car car there for oil changes and the fuel pump gasket. I remember going there when I was younger when my parents needed a part for our cars. These w…

Can Chrysler survive? The frailest of Detroit's automakers has been in private hands for a year. CEO Bob Nardelli badly needs a hit if the company is to endure. The Illness When the U.S. economy catches a cold, Detroit gets pneumonia, or so the old saying used to go. These days it's double pneumonia, and the business is on life support. Besides being caught in a cyclical downturn brought on by the subprime lending crisis, the U.S. auto industry is going through a secular transformation caused by the spike in oil prices. Goodbye, high-profit pickups and SUVs; hello, breakeven (or worse) small cars. All of the old Big Three are suffering, but none like Chrysler. …

  74. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group have agreed to the terms of a merger just after it was announced they were talking just yesterday. PSA's board has already agreed to the deal and is awaiting approval from FCA's board which is meeting later tonight. FCA Chairman John Elkann would retain his chairmanship of the new company while Peugeot CEO Carlos Tavares would stay on as CEO. The board would be comprised of six appointees from Peugeot while FCA would get five. Both companies would pay dividends to their shareholders, €3 billion fr…

NYPD Adds 'General Lee' Muscle Car Descendent, 2006 Dodge Charger, to Its Fleet By TOM HAYS Associated Press Writer NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Police Department is adding some muscle to its car fleet: the 2006 Dodge Charger, whose 1969 model is best remembered for outrunning a hapless sheriff in "The Dukes of Hazzard." The department plans to buy 15 police versions of the car for a pilot program that will begin this summer, officials said Thursday. With so many flashy foreign cars on the road, speed matters, said Leonard Lesko, the NYPD's director of fleet services. "The car that does 110 mph doesn't do it anymore," Lesko said. In a recent analysis by Michigan…

Just got back from a Florida Vacation & had to write down some observations on my rental. This 2006 had 14,5xx miles on it before I assumed it for 9 days. The exterior of the car looks really dated. The "cab-forward" thing just doesn't work well on a convertable - the proportions of the vehicle don't look right.. but styling is a personal taste for most everyone, so I'll leave exterior impressions alone. The interior: Positives: Comfortable room for the kids in the back. Seats were comfortable & supportive. Everything seemed fairly well layed out. The top folds up & down very easily -- and quickly. Negatives: Little or no attention seems to have …

Now the above cars might be on top of anyones list of 10 best cars, but they did bring profits to Chrysler and thanks to profits we got: Thoughts?

  82. Fiat Chrysler posted a record $2.3 billion in operating profit in North America for third quarter 2019. Must of that was attributed to maintaining a firm hold on costs and customers opting for higher-trim level vehicles. Margin for the quarter in North America climbed to 10.6 percent, an all time high. Overall, North American revenue was flat at $21.3 billion and shipments down 11 percent. Globally, adjusted earnings rose 5 percent while revenue declined 1 percent. Global shipments were also down 9 percent. Even with all of that good news, one time charges added up to a $200 million loss, including $795 million for a settlement over the diesel scandal, and a …

I went to a factory sponsored Ride and Drive Event today for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. It was like 2 miles from my house, so I'm like, 'sure'. Since I was able to check out a lot of the Chrysler Corp models and sit in them and drive them (albeit in very short low speed courses), it sure shaped some of my opinions on their products. It would be hard to satisfy the forum gods and get it all in one post so I will try to keep my initial posts to this one and two more and then if anyone has comments.

  87. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 23, 2012 If you have been dreaming about seeing the new Viper at your local Chrysler dealer, you'll probably be disappointed by this news. Automotive News had a chance to speak with SRT CEO Ralph Gilles. Gilles said that one out of every five Chrysler dealers will be selling the Viper. "We're going to open it up to any dealer who can put the money forward and the training, but it's going to be pretty difficult to hit all of those things. You've got to have the training, the facilities, and some history of selling Vipers and SRTs in general," said Gilles. The reason for the limited number of dealers selling the Vip…

Who needs to know how much that is? Someone at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, that's who.FCA had to buy that many greenhouse-gas emissions credits from greener automakers, Reuters says, citing a report from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Because its vehicles' collective fuel economy continues to trail the industry average, FCA purchased the emissions credits at of the end of 2014 in order to meet US emissions regulations. About two-thirds of those credits were acquired fromToyota, w…

The parts that look odd are the headlights, the hood, and busy looking trim. If you see it from far away, you might think its a Crossfire. Some of the plastics inside were a little poor, but overall it was really well executed.
