After a long journey, Tesla has finally revealed the production version of the Model X crossover. Introduced at an event last night at the company's headquarters, CEO Elon Musk made his case as to why you want it. Musk began with safety as he states that the Model X is the first SUV that gets five stars in every crash test category. This is due to no gas engine in the front of the vehicle, and the heavy battery mounted so low in the vehicle which reduces the risk of a rollover. Back in 2017, the NHTSA released a report on the safety of Tesla's Autopilot system after the fatal crash of a Tesla owner in 2016. That report claimed that the use of Autopilot, or more precisely the lane-keeping function called Autosteer, reduced crash rates by 40%. In that original crash, the owner repeatedly ignored warnings to resume manual control of the vehicle. Critics questioned whether Autopilot was encouraging drivers to pay less attention to the road. 400 fired for Performance at Tesla or so they say. Seems Tesla fired approximately 400 employees from lowly sales associates to upper level executives all for performance. Yet with the bottleneck of production holding back the ability to actually produce and ship Tesla 3, it seems Tesla is more about laying off costs to stem the flow of cash till they can get the Tesla 3 shipping. Shares of Tesla stock dropped today due to a video showing a tesla on highway 167 in south seattle catching on fire after hitting some steel in the road. Leaving one to wonder just how easy is it for these electric auto's to catch on fire and possibly kill someone. It is interesting that Tesla is now in the midst of trying to get the states and tax payers to pay or heavily subsidies the creation of a plant that would make the batteries in the US from North America Sources raw materials. Full story on how California is working to try and keep Tesla and Musk in the state while Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and even Texas are all considered sites for the battery plant and the estimated 6500 jobs it would create as the push is on to build 500,000 batteries and cars within 3 years or about 2017 or 2018 depending on when the ground breaks. Tesla Model S vs Tesla Model X - Dragtimes.com Husband vs wife, sedan vs crossover, insanely fast vs unimaginably fast; All are accurate ways to describe this comparison of Teslas. The latter of which was quick enough to claim a World Record run for a crossover (or so the article states) of 11.61 seconds at 116 mph. Crazier yet is that it managed to hit 60 mph in only 3.1 seconds. Don't take it from me, though, watch the video below. Mind = Blown.

Last Tuesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted out that he was considering taking the automaker private and had "secured" funding. Since then, the question of who is providing the funding has been left unanswered. Today, Musk wrote up a blog post that provides some insight. Last Tuesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the company would produce "around 500,00" cars in 2019, a large increase over the goal of 400k vehicles the company previously forecast in January. What wasn't talked about was how big the battery was and power figures. Thanks to some EPA documents, we have some idea on both. After seeing its sales slide during the first quarter of this year, Tesla needed to come up with an incentive to help boost sales of the sagging Model-X and Model-S. In that effort, Tesla is returning the offer of free SuperCharging on all Model-S and Model-X sold. The plan was last offered in 2018 and then ended after Elon Musk called the plan unsustainable. Telsa has been making changes to their lineup and pricing almost monthly since the beginning of 2019, so this could be a short term offer or it could stick around longer. Seems Musk stating his auto's are level 5 capable of self driving is now being called full of crap by GM Exec that says without Lidar, there is no way Tesla system can be Level 5 full autonomous driving. Interesting article on Jalopnik and video from Engineering Explained. Jason Fenske compared his Model 3 with comparable ICE car Giulia Quadrifoglio. Jalopnik "According to Jason’s rough, conservative calculations, not taking into account various possible driving conditions and driving styles, you would save about $1,400 per year driving the Model 3 Performance. The EPA estimates that annual fuel costs would be $550 for the Model 3 Performance and $2,250 for the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which would be a difference of about $1,600 annually."

Hertz has announced that it will sell off roughly 30%, or 20,000 vehicles, of its EV fleet. The move came after it announced a scale-back from its original goal of electrifying 25% of the rental fleet. Hertz's original goal was to acquire 100,000 Tesla and 65,000 from Polestar over five years. Teslas make up roughly 80% of the Hertz EV fleet. Hits Keep Coming for Tesla 3 Edmunds two years ago put down a $1,000 deposit for the Tesla 3 and bought a $56,000 configured Tesla 3. This car to date has only been able to rack up 5,257 miles in 4 months due a very long list of problems and multiple service calls for what many call cutting edge EV. The goal was to rack up at least 1,700 miles a month in the Tesla 3, so 6,800 miles in 4 months yet the EV is sidelined again awaiting a service call. Thanks to a poster on the Model 3 Owners Club forum, we have some new and juicy information concerning the Model 3. The images posted come from an infographic being handed out to Tesla employees as "talking points" to try and sway people away from Model 3. Hundred of thousands of people plopped down $1,000 to reserve a Tesla Model 3 last year. At the time, buyers were told not to expect their Model 3 until the end of 2018. Last year, Tesla gave the Los Angeles Police Department two Model S P85Ds to evaluate for possible duty as a police vehicle. It seems the LAPD were impressed that they have decided to equip one of the two models to duty as a patrol vehicle. In news that will likely not shock anyone, Michigan's Secretary of State office has official denied Tesla a dealership license to sell vehicles in the state. The latest state to ban direct sales of vehicles is Michigan. Today, Governor Rick Synder signed a bill into law that would ban such automakers as Tesla from directly selling vehicles to consumers. This bill also allows dealers to make the decision whether or not to charge the transaction fee. While it is claimed to do 0-60 about a half second quicker than it's primary price competition --the Chevy Bolt--, disappointingly it's range is a mere 133 miles vs. the Bolt's 238. According to electrek web site they were given information it would seem anonymously that is a real change from the gradually constant introduction of updates and new features Tesla is known for in pushing out updates quarterly. It seems for the Q3 2019 Tesla is planning to introduce a new minimalist interior into the S and X models inline with the Tesla 3. A full refresh of the exterior and interior will happen in 2021 as an assumed 2022 model. Hot on the heels of the veiled news that Teslas are going to effectively be $3625 more expensive by the end of 2019 (with the ratcheting down of the EV tax credit once a manufacturer hits 200K units sold), Tesla announced today that they are discontinuing the 'entry level' 75 kw Model S and Model S by this Sunday night. The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received a recall from Tesla covering 2,031,220 vehicles. Products affected span from the 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2023 Model X, 2020-2023 Model Y, and 2017-2023 Model 3. These recalls are for those vehicles with Autosteer. The latest way Tesla has been trying to get around states that ban direct sales (Michigan for example) is to apply for a dealer license. But this plan appears to not be working. Automotive News reports that North Carolina's Division of Motor Vehicles has rejected Telsa's application to attain a second dealership license and said the automaker must go through a third-party dealership group. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued their preliminary report on the fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S in Autopilot mode and a semi-truck back in May. According to data that was downloaded from the Model S, the vehicle was traveling above the speed limit on the road (74 mph in 65) and that Autopilot was engaged. The speed helps explain how the Model S traveled around 347 feet after making the impact with the trailer - traveling 297 feet before hitting a utility pole, and then going another 50 feet after breaking it. Today, Telsa pulled the covers off the updated Model S. The biggest change for the Model S is the removal of the front grille. It has been replaced with a similar fascia to the Model X and recently announced Model 3 - front panel and LED headlights. Recent software updates have appeared that make reference to the new motors. The new motors with the codename "Raven", are permanent magnet reluctance motors as found in the Model 3. The new Model S 60 starts at $66,000 (before federal and state incentives) and offers a maximum range of 210 miles. I looked at the Tesla map for charging stations in the DFW area in Texas and there are not as many as I would like to see. I did see that you can purchase a portable charger. I wanted to know if people have experience using that.
