GM mulls building Saturns in Belgium No. 1 automaker considers retooling Antwerp plan. November 23 2006: 10:52 AM EST Link to Original Article @ CNNMoney.com BRUSSELS (Reuters) -- U.S. carmaker General Motors Corp is considering building Saturns at its plant in the Belgian city of Antwerp, a spokeswoman said, in a move that could spare workers from reported job cuts. According to Belgian media, General Motors (Charts) planned to cut up to 1,000 jobs at its plant in Antwerp, Belgium's second-largest city. German rival Volkswagen this week said it would slash about 70 percent of its workforce in the Belgian capital. "We have an investigation phase to see if it is fe…

Souped-up Aura XR makes for a nice ride here Like I've always said, the rpesence of a more refined and powerful DOHC plant and more gears in the tranny is needed to spin more positive press for GM's cars and it took them forever to figure that out. SONATA OR AZERA? LMAO! i think not. read autoweeks butchering of the sonata to see how that car is exposing itself as a fraud.

Okay... First off I thought I was once registered but apperantly not... I have owned nothing but GM cars all my life. Why would I stop now... Anyways the story... After drooling over Bonnevilles since 2002 when I saw a sleek SLE at my local dealership, I have been hooked. So how come 3 long years later there finally one in the driveway? And what do I think of it... When I got my Impala my budget restricted me from my dream car a Bonneville (SE) at the time. But I decided on the cheaper and larger interior Chevy. Then harmlessly surfing yahoo autos I come across this mint 2005 Bonneville SLE in cranberry red metallice, drool runs down my check, a light blub goes on in m…

So I was driving through my Pontiac dealer today checking out the Red Tag pricing, and I noticed that the Solstice is marked down from $28,300 to $27,900 and I think to myself that it must be a GXP, though it looks like the normal one. So I do a double-take, and sure enough, it's a base Solstice, with every option (including automatic) for $28k and change! So I go to check the window stick to see if they marked it up to $28k, but that was the real price, and the new base price is $21,3xx! So whatever happened to under $20k? And also, does this mean that a loaded GXP costs over $30k? It's not that the price is really bad now, it's just that I'd like to see GM keep the …

Nov. 8, 2006, 10:23PM -- Reuters News Service Another Hummer coming down pike 2009 launch is likely for SUV to take off-road Conceptual illustration by C&G member Mute DETROIT - General Motors Corp. will likely launch another Hummer in 2009, the head of the niche brand said Wednesday. "The new product will have unparalleled off-road capabilities," Hummer General Manager Martin Walsh said. "Like our current Hummers, it would be recognizable from a distance." The brand currently has two models: the H2 and H3. It stopped production of the H1 in June. Here are some revealing pictures of the Saturn Aura XR, taken today at the Barrie Auto Show by Polish_Kris. We were probing the quality, and found some very ugly deficiencies. For starters, here is the outside, which looks pretty damn decent. Then, we got inside. Also looking good. The problems begin when you start looking closely at the details. Pull on the upper and lower steering column surround and...it comes apart: Then, theres that fake stiching: The silver trim that wraps around the mid dash and flows into the door, does not line up, just as in the official pictures: And, you can stick your finger in the seam with the DOOR CLOSED! AN ALL-NEW UTE Sources say Holden believes the large car market and growth of SUV acceptance is now such that ute sales have eclipsed conventional wagons. As such, the VE ute variant has now assumed a higher priority. Therefore the first VE variation to follow the sedan will be the new VE ute. Like the VE sedan, this will be different from any ute ever launched in Australia. Previously, the Commodore ute and wagon were derived from the same long wheelbase platform that underpinned the Statesman/Caprice. This was a tradition that started with the HQ in 1971 and was closely followed by Ford with the XA Falcon and variants in1972. The VE ute due later next year, will go…

Vauxhall unveils two new additions to its swelling VXR stable. The limited-edition VXR500 is based on the standard 6.0-litre Monaro VXR, but uses a new supercharger to crank up the power from around 400bhp to almost 500bhp, with torque up from 530Nm to a quite pant-wetting 677Nm. There’s also an upgraded fuel system, clutch revision and bespoke engine tune, all meaning the Monaro VXR500 can hit 60mph in less than 5 seconds and will do something like 190mph. The Monaro is one on the greatest cars on British roads – and with a £35,995 price tag it’s phenomenal value, seeing as it’s half the price of the next cheapest 500bhp+ car. Damned practical and great to drive, too. …

It's official: Holden’s Commodore is heading to America as General Motors forges ahead on a BMW-rivalling compact sedan. A Pontiac-badged Commodore will be unveiled at the Chicago motor show in 2007, signalling the start of the Commodore’s global tour. Speaking at this week's Paris motor show, General Motors product guru Bob Lutz did more than hint that the Commodore would wear a Pontiac nose and badges before long. “Come to the Chicago auto show and all we be revealed,” said a smiling Lutz, who earlier praised Holden and the new Commodore for being one of “the best vehicles GM has produced”. Speculation has been rife about Commodores being built in other markets, but…

Well I just picked up my 2007 Torrent from the dealer yesterday and I am very impressed with the updates. I had previously driven a 2006 Torrent, but was turned off by the cheap interior. The new centre console, gauge cluster, and driver information centre are huge improvements over the old design. I also noticed that the steering feels better...I am not sure if GM retuned it or not ? Overall I am very happy with the vehicle, and for those of you who continually say the engine is weak; test drive one, it will change your mind. It has more than sufficient power and the 5 speed automatic is very smooth. Also, I am very happy that the Torrent has been given StabiliTrak…

Once again, it looks like the real-world vehicle is much better than even what the best manufacturer photographers can come up with: http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/SaturnOutlook/Photos.htm Simply an amazing ute, and finally it looks like the perfect combination of style AND size to actually get people out of full-size SUV's who never needed the extra strength and bulk--and very likely the next replacement for our Suburban. It simply looks like something from a high-end German maker, and the combination of looks/space/drivetrain is just incredible. HUMMER in a Strong Sales Stride Worldwide DETROIT − HUMMER continued to gain momentum with sales in North America during the first nine months of 2006 up 53.5 percent from 2005. The popular midsize H3 can be credited with much of the gain. That model recorded an especially strong calendar year to date, with sales up 158 percent year-to-year. On a monthly basis, H3 deliveries in September rose 19 percent from one year ago, giving H3 its second highest sales month this calendar year, while the full-size H2 had its highest retail month of the year. The division is on track to sell its 200,000th vehicle this year. "As people have discovered the H3 for themselves we've s…

Military Wants a More Conservative Hummer ...in the fuel economy sense, that is. The Defense Department wants a new Humvee. One of its complaints: The Humvee eats too much fuel. The vehicle, an icon of the military for about two decades since it replaced the World War II-era Jeep, gets as few as 4 miles per gallon in city driving and 8 miles per gallon on the highway. The Pentagon wants a Humvee replacement that weighs 30 percent to 40 percent less and uses proportionately less fuel. Read "Miltary wants refined Humvee" @ The Detroit News

Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Hummer H2 SUT Luxury and ruggedness are doled out in such equal measures of excess in the 2007 Hummer H2 SUT that it seems one can't go wrong when looking to it for validation of one's wealth and manhood. Although it can handle the Great Outdoors and packs more braggadocio than any other vehicle in its luxury sport truck category, we think Paris and Paul are better off selling the H2 and picking up a GL450 for her and a FJ Cruiser for him. Following suggestions from fellow Saturn enthusiasts, he removes panels from the car (the panels did not shatter, fortunately - they do if hit hard enough or just right, but are quite durable in general as you'll see), and he uses a rubber mallet on the dents. Panels pop right back into place. Bends mounting points back where they need to be, reinstalls panels, looks good as new.

A Vue With Some Room Motley Fool Thursday September 14, 4:57 pm ET By Rich Smith Link to Original Article @ Yahoo!Business Whenever I write something not particularly flattering about U.S. automakers, I find myself promptly inundated with reader emails -- some of them even printable in a family publication. "Why don't you report the good news?" people ask. And I answer: "As soon as there is some, heck, yeah, I'll write about it." Well, let the bells ring out in Mudville, folks. I've finally got something nice to say about Detroit. A couple of weeks ago, the weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal ran its regular column on a particular car of particular intere…

Please vote! Bring back the Firechicken? My question was inspired by Harley Earl's sig. I love that Firebird chop but can do without 'the chicken'. I would be ok with a subtle firechicken on select special models. Like say 5% of production.

Let's do a comparison between Chrysler & Saturn Chrysler gets products from Germany Saturn gets products from Germany Chrysler gets its RWD technologies from Mercedes Saturn could get its RWD technologies from Holden Chrysler will get its future FWD platforms from German VW. Saturn will get its future FWD platforms from German Opel Chrysler sells Jeep at its dealers. Saturn could sell Hummer at its dealers. Obviously these are not currently the total reality for both brands but, they do both seem potentially similar. If Holden sells both RWD and Opel models then why shouldn't Saturn do the same? I think Chevy & Saturn should have RWD. Chevy w…

I drove through the Saturn dealership, and they only had one unsold Aura sitting on the lot. About a week ago they had multipul Auras, and none of them that were there then are still there. So, they seem to be flying off the lots around here. Anyone else notice how the Aura is doing in their area?

Havn't had a chance to drive it yet, cause the dealership was closing, however my overall impressions were alright.. the pric tag is pretty high, $24,500, starting for a domestic that wants to win over sales from Camry and Accord, pricing it at exacalty the same price, is not a good idea... I would think like starting it at 19 or 20 is more reasonable... the interior plastics are nice and soft (finally)... however once you start to feel the secondary plastics below the steering wheel around the radio, the cheapness of a Cobalt's interior is felt (sit in it for yourself and you'll know what I'm talking about, the top black plastics are nice and soft, and the lower lighter-…

Saturn Has Dual Hybrid Vue Strategy Link to Original Article @ The Car Connection Even as it rolls out its first gasoline-electric vehicle, General Motors' Saturn division is laying out plans for an unusual dual-hybrid strategy. The Vue Green Line is Saturn's first hybrid-electric vehicle. Sold as a $2000 option, it is not only GM's first non-truck hybrid, but also one of the market's most affordable. The Green Line is what some call a "mybrid," or "mild" hybrid, among other things meaning it does not have the capability of running on battery power alone. But a more advanced and feature-laden hybrid system is now under development, part of a joint venture between GM,…

After a long time of making no sense in what killing the Pontiac Bonneville and stillborn Buick Siecle, Theta, and other models meant, suddenly I'm starting to see what the future Buick-Pontiac-GMC unified lineup will look like. Someone correct me if I'm wrong in presenting the future product lineups, circa 2009-11 range: Pontiac G5-Chevrolet Cobalt clone 2-door, 5-passenger notchback coupe. Positioned slightly upscale and considered GM's sport coupe rival to Scion tC, or rather, the closest thing to it. Pontiac G6-Epsilon architecture, long-wheelbase (112.3") model offering 2-door, 4-passenger fastback coupe, 2-door retractable-hardtop coupe-convertible, and 4-door, …

Edmunds Evalution: 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line Rather than the scalpel it could have been, the Sky Red Line remains the blunt, somewhat distant car the base Sky is, just with an extra dose of power. Nevertheless, we expect that most Red Line customers will overlook the car's dynamic shortcomings and be tempted by the curb appeal and speed that can be had in exchange for its $27,895 base price. C&D reviewed the GXP in their October issue, and overall, they were overwhelmingly positive. Of the article's fifty sentences, just five contained criticism, and even so, it was very faint, on the usual Solstice quirks (trunk space, steering, top operation). They pointed out how GM's first direct-injection engine manages a whopping 60 more horses than VW's 2.0T FSI, and also how the GXP offers better fuel economy AND less interior noise than the regular Solstice. In fact, they felt so highly of it that they even compared it to a far more expensive Porsche's Boxster, and they ended the article saying, "It's an exceptional deal." 0-60: 5.6 5-60: 6.7 70-0: 170 ft …

October Car & Driver pitted the Solstice and the Boxer against one another and the picture of the two side by side is worth a thousand words. That Pontiac is HOT. It makes the porsche look small, skinny, and old. The writers tried really hard to sell readers on the Boxster, making many excuses for the huge price difference and quietly admitted the shortcomings of the boxster while screaming about any imperfections about the Solstice......it's kind of funny.... I can't get over the picture....I would have posted it, but I can't find it on their website. The Pontiac BLOWS the porsche away in the looks catagory and the GXP is smokin' hot for $25k....

The Holden Commodore's days as Australia's best-selling car could be numbered. Denny Mooney, Holden's managing director, has told Drive that Holden's next-generation family sedan could be smaller and lighter and powered by four- and six-cylinder engines. It would be similar in size to the Torana TT36 hatch concept displayed at the Sydney motor show last year. And it may be in production by as early as 2010. Rising fuel prices and a buyer swing towards smaller cars has put the concept of a mid-sized rear-wheel-drive sedan, first floated by Holden in early 2005, back on the agenda of General Motors. I find it somewhat interesting that there is no spoiler for the Aura. I wouldn't want anything crazy, but a nice lip spoiler is always a classy touch and would aid the 'European' feel like that of an Audi/BMW/etc... Maybe they are reserving it for the Red line version along with more aggressive fascias.
