I didn't even know they put Diesels in these... 1983 Cutlass Ciera 4.3 Diesel Must've gotten rather good mileage when...you know...when it ran... And if I ever had lots and lots of money, I would want to restore stupid ugly cars like these. Can you imagine having a garage of 1980s Diesel Oldsmobiles? Yeah, not too appealing, but unique nonetheless.

WOW, look at all the work that went into designing the new front clip (front fascia)!!!! Yes I'm being sarcastic! Did Pontiac design it or did Holden? It looks like it took all of a minute to do, maybe the video is true to life. I'm not feeling it for this car, that's a bad sign if I don't like it, as I'm a diehard Pontiac fan. IMHO! Lastly, why does the rear of the car say GT Pontiac G8, shouldn't it say, Pontiac G8 GT?

Some items may been discussed other posts...however... 1. Ponitac going ALL RWD? I saw this in Motor Trend awhile ago--but they are one of the wrost magazines for accurately predicting anything. 2. Solstice coupe...whare does that stand? 3. 4 door Kappa? 4. Why did the G5 coupe NOT get the 2.0 S/C engine? 5. Does Gm want to turn Pontiac into a lower volume, higher profit line of cars?

Holden has announced that 600 jobs are to go at its plant in Adelaide's north. The company's general manager of manufacturing, Rod Keane, says it was a difficult decision but one which was made for two reasons. He says the increased efficiency of the Elizabeth plant after a $500 million investment by Holden and the phasing out of the VZ model Commodore has left Holden overstaffed. Mr Keane says by the end of the year the Elizabeth Plant will be operating at maximum efficiency, churning out 620 cars each day. Hello everyone, I have been busy lately but hey it is a Saturday night and what could I do besides photoshop... NOTHING! What it could look like on yours... From GM media online: Pontiac sold 108,634 Grand Prixs during the 2006 calender year and 122,398 the previous year. The Bonneville sold just over 30,000 in 2004 (last full production year) and that car was axed. Maybe would help if I had model year figures instead of calender year (can't differ that much?), or the fleet/retail breakdown. I know someone is dying to point out that Avis and Alamo love Grand Prixs, but not 78,000 of them a year. I know high sales numbers don't translate directly to profit, but I think Pontiac needs to do better than this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that GM is setting the estimates intentionally low, but even if they double the ini…

The Feb 2007 issue of Car and Driver magazine has an article about their entering a race called the "24 Hours of LeMons." The race consists of $500 cars racing against one another. Wagons ho, mate! Toby Hagon | Link to Original Article @ The Age | February 16, 2007 Last-generation VZ Commodore wagon will be succeeded by a VE-based station wagon The traditional Aussie wagon appears to have a future, despite a shift away from wagons by a number of manufacturers. Ford is forging ahead with a wagon version of the next generation Falcon, due in showrooms early in 2008. Ford Australia president Tom Gorman confirmed the wagon would definitely play a part in the new-look Falcon range that's expected to be displayed at next year's Melbourne motor show. The Falcon wagon will join a Commodore wagon - due late in 2007 - as the only two locally-manufacture…

Here she is, the lil' sweetie: See that lil' shiny doo-dad just aft of the front tire? That's the header dump. Furthermore, a medium-sized vehicle, which would become the next-generation Pontiac G6 – not to mention a reborn Holden Torana in Australia – has re-emerged as a likely scenario following the release of the VE Commodore-based Pontiac G8 at the Chicago Auto Show last week. The current Pontiac G6 is a front-drive vehicle based on the same platform (known as Epsilon) as the current-generation Chevy Malibu, Opel/Holden Vectra, Saab 9-3, Saturn Aura and Cadillac BLS. Perhaps not coincidentally, the GM vehicle line executive responsible for the Epsilon platform – Gene Stefanyshyn – later became the leader of the Zeta program. Saturn leads GM's turnaround effort By TOM KRISHER, AP Business Writer | Thu Feb 8, 6:20 PM ET Link to Original Article @ Yahoo! CHICAGO - To peek into the future of the General Motors Corp. turnaround plan, just look at Saturn. Last year, when GM's sales skidded 8.7 percent, Saturn's rose by 6 percent. By fall, the small brand that used to call itself "A Different Kind of Car Company" will have a lineup that's almost completely new, with no models older than 20 months. Simply put, if Saturn falls from orbit with all its new vehicles, GM likely will follow. "It's a no-excuses product lineup," GM Vice Chairman for Global Product Development Bob Lutz said in an inte…

Toyota will be updating the Matrix in Spring 2008 and the automaker is using the Mazda3 as its design inspiration (good choice) for the hatchback. The Corolla-based vehicle is already sold in Europe as the Auris and in Japan as the Blade. The US-based Matrix will have different sheet metal than in other markets but it may be taking on the Blade name since Toyota has registered the name with the US Patent and Trademark office. The Japan market Blade has a 2.4L engine producing 158 HP, which would be a big bump from the 126 HP that powers the current Matrix. Possibly, but its Futuramic 88 was the first modern musclecar Ike Turner's Fats Waller-like stride piano sets off two minutes, 51 seconds that changed music and signaled a new age of automotive power in America. The fuzz guitar, reportedly the result of a speaker damaged while Turner's Kings of Rhythm were on tour, that quickly joins in is part of the new sound. Raymond Hill's tenor sax break, taking 56 seconds, could've come from blues or jazz. It's the beat that pulls this all together into something new, although the tune owed much to rhythm and blues songs …

The addition of the smaller H3 model has resulted in a 93-percent increase in sales this year, she noted, despite the run-up in fuel prices and the overall decline in the SUV market. "There is room for this brand to expand beyond the segments we're competing in now," Docherty said. I picked up a Crain publication at Cobo this week. It had a listing of cars and SUV's with comments on them. It had a note on the Sky and highlighted the turbo 260 engine as being available and other comments. What I did note is it stated in the future a Superchared engine is coming? Does anyone have any idea of what this would be? Could it be a new 205 HP base engine or the talked about 300 HP Ecotech that I expected as a turbo? I have not heard or seen anything on a supercharged engine since before the turbo was anounced. I also know GM is going to put the Turbo in the HHR and Cobalt so would this free up the Supercharged engine as a base unit in the Sky?

Solstice Outsells Miata For the first time since it debuted in late 1989, Mazda's MX-5 Miata is not America's favorite budget two-seat sports car. That honor now belongs to the Pontiac Solstice. Heading into the final weeks of the year, the swoopy $20,000 Pontiac sports car has a commanding sales lead over the venerable Miata. And there are no asterisks, either: Both cars came out in 2005, so this is their first full year of head-to-head competition. Through November, Pontiac sold 18,361 Solstices, compared with 15,873 Miatas. Pontiac padded its lead in November, chalking up sales of 1,305, compared with just 995 Miatas. This race could be even more interesting nex…

The sleek look is enhanced with the elimination of the roof rack (which remains an option), lowering the look of the vehicle beyond its reduced ride height. Eighteen-inch flangeless, high-polished forged aluminum five-spoke wheels complete the Torrent GXP's aggressive stance. Chrome details, such as the…

Drive has also learnt that Pontiac could be taking more than just the flagship Commodore SS V8 (which will be called the G8). Pontiac has also expressed interest in the more-affordable Commodore SV6 and a premium high-performance sedan from Holden Special Vehicles, powered by the 6.0-litre V8 engine from the Corvette. For those of you in the Detroit area, according to the MSN - Autos web site, the Holden EFIJY Concept will be at NAIAS. Here's the relevant information: Representing General Motors of Australia is the Holden EFIJY Concept, a modern interpretation of a 1953 FJ Holden. Its long, sweeping fibreglass body and deep purple paint reminds us of the CadZZilla, a one-off hotrod designed by Boyd Coddington for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, but it’s more modern and in many ways even more eye-catching. Under the hood is a supercharged 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine mated to an automatic gearbox. So far it's been a hit to a certain breed of auto enthusiasts - the hotrod lover. In fact this fa…

Part 1 Part 2 (meat of the program) Best Motoring International is a major car enthusiast show/magazine in Japan and the drivers for the show are/were professional drivers with loads of racing experience. They test the Solstice vs the Miata and no matter what nationality the car is, they base the winner on how it performs and today the Solstice wins. I like how they give the explanations for their decisions so it doesn't make them baseless fodder for their viewers. It's interesting to see American cars from another country's POV and moreso by drivers who know what they're talking about. That's why I like to watch Top Gear and BMI as I don't mind the country bashing, an…

So ok, the newest Car & Driver magazine (with Vipers on the cover) has an article about a "beater" endurance race. The object was to purchase a car with an upper price limit of $500 and race it, beat it and bang it into the junkyard, just for fun, on a dirt track. The guys at C&D found a first-gen Aurora with 174k miles on it and body damage as their entry. While they make some positive comments ("...testing the old maxim that GM cars can run bad longer than some cars run at all"), some of the photos are horrifying. This article has some parallels to the "old diesel road trip" article from a few months back, in which a 5.7 Olds won. Check it out, Olds fans.

Here is some insite on what Pontiac may do? Holden eyes exports as GM deal to turn Commodore into Pontiac Grand Prix shapes up By JOHN MELLOR 23 November 2006 GM HOLDEN will sell more cars overseas than it does in Australia if a plan to export its billion-dollar VE Commodore to the US as the next-generation Pontiac Grand Prix sedan comes to fruition. In an exclusive interview with GoAuto to discuss the concept of the VE as a world car rather than just an Australian car, company chairman and managing director Denny Mooney said that he was anticipating approval for the US program. "You will see an announcement in the next three to four months. Assuming it happe…

Saturn Hybrid debuts as NYC taxi "A Saturn VUE Green Line recently was put into service as a taxi in New York City. This is the first GM vehicle to be approved by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission since 1996 when GM discontinued the rear wheel drive Caprice. GM's goal is to show other taxi operators that the VUE Green Line is an affordable hybrid taxi vehicle..." Link to rest of Article If a hybrid is made for any place, it's stop and go traffic. For those that haven't seen it, it's basically an hour long commercial masquerading as a television program. I wasn't in Australia at the time, but I gather it was run on the Australian Channel Nine network as part of the official VE release. Late in August, somebody uploaded a six part copy of an off-air recording of the program to StreetFire.net. Links to the uploaded videos follow: Part 1/6 Part 2/6 Part 3/6 Part 4/6 Part 5/6 Part 6/6 The DVD of the program was released in Australia early in December.

My local dealer just got in some 2007 G6's with window stickers and mileage ratings. No prices yet but give it another week or so. There were 3 new base sedans with 3500 VVT V6 and 3.05:1 ratio, one base 2.4 Ecotec sedan and one GT convertible with 3900. Sadly all the mileage ratings have gone down. 2.4 models are now rated at 23/33 3500 VVT base now rated at 20/29 3900 convertible automatic 18/26 Compare to 2006 versions 2.4 23/34 3500 22/32 3900 models with automatic 19/26 Also the convertible loses it's bodyside protective molding which I think is stupid! If the base 3500 models …

TCC Test: 2007 Saturn Outlook The Outlook joins the new Aura sedan and Solstice roadster, a trio of the best GM has to offer these days. The Opel Astra is going to be rebadged a Saturn in 2007 to replace the Ion. The Saturn Relay minivan is going away. That gives Saturn a top-drawer lineup with which to head into the future. A good Outlook, indeed. The Car Connection

Reading through these posts, seeing the old cars and the Delaware Valley Olds Club sure made me think about my old Cutlass, an '85 Cutlass Supreme Broughan Coupe. Boy I miss that car, never should've gotten rid of it. I bought it for a grand with 116.000 miles on it, and sold it for a grand 3 years later with 180,000 miles on it. Not too shabby if I say-so myself (and I probably am!!!) Just made me think if I'd have kept it, and was able to keep it running, what kind of mileage I'd have on it? The cars after the Cutlass and their mileage... '95 LHS, bought at 79,000, wrecked at 125,000 (probably the best thing that ever happened to me!!!) 46,000 miles. '92 LeSabre…

My father bought an '87 Delta 88 Royale Brougham back in 1989. I was only 5 then. He told me that he paid $12,000 and it was like new. But, there was something special about it. It had everything. Even the digital instrument cluster that I haven't seen since. He sold it back in '98 and I haven't seen one like it. It also had a voice that would talk for most of the general things a chime would go off for. i.e. headlights on, parking brake on, etc. Has anyone seen one of these cars?? I've always wanted to find another one and hopefully buy it. My dad put over 250,000 miles on it and it was still running like new, but he had to sell it to start his business. I've missed it e…

Edmunds Long Term Verdict: Pontiac Solstice After 12 months and more than 17,000 miles, the sun has finally set on our time with our long-term 2006 Pontiac Solstice. If you've read anything we've written about the Pontiac in the last year, you won't be surprised that we're not terribly broken up about the parting of ways with this little roadster. While it provided us with lots of wonderful photographs, the sexy-looking drop top wore us down over the long haul with high levels of interior noise, a jarring ride around town and a drivetrain that provided more vibration than enjoyable performance. Bottom line: The Solstice is a bargain-priced beauty, but with a few too m…

Overview. The all-new Aura midsized sedan is the latest model in Saturn's stream of new products developed to reinvent the General Motors division, following close on the introduction of the Sky roadster. The Aura continues the brand's shift of focus toward more sophistication, performance, and style, rather than depending on its no-haggle pricing policy and dent-resistant plastic body panels to push a limited, lackluster car lineup. Replacing the L-Series, the Aura rides on the same underpinnings as the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6, and it uses regular sheet metal rather than plastic body panels. This new model faces tough competition in the crowded family-car segmen…

Well the SRX lease was up and in order to cut car payment and to save some gas my wife selected a brand new bouncing black Aura XE. We picked it up yesterday and will keep you informed on how it is going. She loves the interior and actually selected one with the tan cloth seats. I think it was an amazing deal for all of the features that came on the base model with the convenience package.

Edmunds Evaluation: 2006 Pontiac G6 Convertible So, don't buy the 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP convertible if you're looking for a convertible sports car. Don't buy it either if you dream of throwing two suitcases in the trunk, lowering the top and heading off for a romantic weekend. You'll be disappointed on both counts. Instead, buy it because it's a reasonably priced, attractive, six-days-a-week coupe that, when conditions allow, will afford a couple hours of top-down motoring with you and three of your luggage-less friends. On Monday, you can put the top back up for urban jungle duty — or if it begins snowing. Just like we said at the top of this page, the practicality an…

Robert Cumberford recently reviewed the Saturn AURA design in Automobile Magazine, but mainly focused on the continuance of GM's bean-counter dominance. He alluded to a prototype previewed to the media in 2004 - remember that buzz of class-leading, innovative interiors? - and how the ultimate product was nothing like the original. He said something along the lines of "the AURA is an example of everything right and wrong within GM - designers and engineers build amazing cars, but it's everyone else in the process that screw things up." An interesting read, worthy of checking out. Being an outsider, I've got to credit the guy for giving me (what I feel is) a more ed…

Sorry for the other false starts but I kept getting error messages on my first attempts to post. Anyway here is Pratt & Millers new GXP R that will replace the GTO R. It will appear first at The 24 hours of Daytona in January. I expect this is base on the GTO R and has been enhanced over the original R chassie. One is to expect this is a RWD racer and will play as Pontiac racer of choice till the return of the GTO in a couple years. I am wondering if the NHRA Pro Stock teams will also make the change to the G6 GXP in the coming year.

GeigerCars Christmas Edition HUMMER H2 Not to say that the GeigerCars' HUMMERs aren't ridiculous. They certainly are. But some of its specials have a certain kind of charm, and the latest fun creation is a perfect example. Behold the GeigerCars Christmas Edition HUMMER H2. Created for a German television program, the machine sports the seemingly-requisite Lambo doors, is finished in bright red, and has a custom winter scene featuring the Star of Bethlehem airbrushed on its newly-panelized side (Geiger welded steel covers over the rear windows). In addition to all that, the truck's full profile is decked out in lights, Christmas-style. And here we thought people got car…
