Linkity Sketches of Opel Ampera Leaked Europe's Office for Harmonization of the Internal Market Becomes Discordant Europe's Office for Harmonization of the Internal Market (OHIM) maintains a trademark database that helps to ensure a minimum of conflict and easy filing for claims. That same database also lets slip basic sketches of car designs before their official unveiling on a regular basis, and this time the Opel Ampera plug-in hybrid gets its unofficial debut. The new Ampera is essentially Opel's version of the Chevrolet Volt and it is set to make its debut in production trim at next month's Geneva Motor Show. While the Volt will first hit…

Even as carmakers around the world suffer amid the global economic downturn, some manufacturers are seeing record sales in Germany. Berlin's "scrapping bonus" is paying off. Bailout, of course, has already become the word of the year. And these days, with the global automobile industry sinking into crisis, it has been used more than ever. The European Union is looking at ways to help out carmakers in the bloc, Washington has spent weeks trying to shore up the Big Three, and even China has recently announced plans to streamline its automobile industry as part of a large stimulus package for vehicle manufacturers. Germans have been turning in old cars to be scrapped …

Spied: 2008 Opel Astra The most important part about the mid-life facelift of the Opel Astra is not the re-designed chrome bar flanking the logo. It’s also not the slightly modified air-intakes below the headlights. And it’s not the wanna-be single-frame grille or the shining stripes, and neither the re-shaped black spoiler underneath the front bumper. The most important part is actually not at all to be found at the front of the car! Read "SPY PHOTOS: Opel Astra Facelift" @ World Car Fans

Like the Astra OPC, this will get more aggressive bodywork and a power premium over standard version. A 1.6L turbocharged engine will push out 200hp. The Corsa OPC is due to be released in January. Saturn's Astra has been something of a commercial non-starter stateside, but it remains a perennial favorite in Opel and Vauxhall guises in Europe. Thus, even with General Motors' touchy-feely brand on the rocks here at home, it's still a pivotal model overseas that warrants attention, even if we probably won't end up seeing it in America. Thankfully, then, the folks at Autoblog.nl (no relation) have dug up a set of small images showing what looks to be a pair of production-ready 2010 examples. Details are slim, but the car is expected to eventually be offered in a whole range of models, including hatchback, sedan, wagon, and performance-oriented GTC. Look for it to hit…

It didn't make an appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, but General Motors' white-hot Vauxhall Insignia VXR is spending more time out of doors and (accidentally?) posing for pictures for the folks at Auto Express. With 320 horsepower and a rumored all-wheel drivetrain at work, the fettled Insignia is said to have lapped the Nürburgring in (grains of salt at the ready) just over eight minutes on its 20-inch wheels. If true, that's the kind of time aimed for by smaller, nimbler cars. Even better: Pretty soon we expect to see pictures of the Insignia VXR hatch and wagon versions, perhaps wearing Opel badges. Mmmm, hot wagons... Yum. Autoblog Gallery

SPY SHOTS! 2009/10 Vauxhall Insignia Link to Original Article @ CAROnline The Vauxhall Insignia, you say? I thought it was the new Vectra They're one and the same, we hear. Eager to spruce up its repmobile's reputation, Vauxhall and sister firm Opel are planning to drop the Vectra tag in favour of the Insignia name, harking back to the executive-style concept from a few years back. We've already scooped the new Vectra, and it's destined to follow the sleeker shape of the GTC concept car. It seems that the family car segment is finally throwing off its dull-as-ditchwater reputation, with the arrival of the classier Mondeo and the like. Concept car looks you say? S…

Spying: Opel Astra OPC William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com November 2, 2011 GM's European division has been hard at work developing their competitor to the Ford Focus ST and Mazdaspeed3 and some new spy shots have come out. The camouflaged Opel Astra GTC in the pictures is the new OPC/VXR model due out sometime next year. Not much has changed since we last saw pictures of this; a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder developing around 300 HP, six speed manual, and GM's HyperStut suspension to help counter understeer are expected. The question now is will the US get a taste of this as a Buick? The speculation is being fueled by Astra …

Thousands of workers employed by General Motors in Europe took to the streets Thursday to demonstrate against the giant US carmaker's sweeping restructuring plans and to save their jobs. Vauxhall Astra VXR Seen Driving Around With Some Camo William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 22, 2011 Ford has had it share of being in the sport compact spotlight with the new Focus ST and Fiesta ST concept being shown at Frankfurt and the Focus RS rumors swirling around. But now it's General Motor's turn to be in the spotlight with some new spy shots of the Vauxhall Astra VXR. Using the Astra GTC as a base, Vauxhall added a new bodykit, large alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Power will come from a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0L engine producing around 300 HP, with power going towards the front wheels. A limited-slip different…

VAUXHALL REIGNS IN JUNE! Vauxhall top of UK sales chart for June Astra overall best seller; Astra, Vectra, Zafira and new Corsa all number one in class Highest June retail market share since 1996 Last month might have been the wettest June since records began, but it certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of Vauxhall buyers. Official figures released today show that Vauxhall overtook its main rival to become the best selling automotive brand in Britain, with a massive 33,161 car sales – that’s 3,447 more than its nearest competitor and gave Vauxhall a 14.88 per cent share of all car registrations in June. The result was boosted by sales to private buyers, attracted…

Vauxhall Struts Out The Astra GTC William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 6, 2011 Vaxuhall Astra GTC Gallery Vauxhall has pulled off the covers on their brand new Astra GTC and all we can say is WOW! The car will be going after the Renault Mégane coupé and Volkswagen Scirocco in the European market. The body carries the design of the 2010 GTC Paris concept with its sleek lines and low, wide stance. The only items the Astra GTC shares with the rest of the Astra family is the antenna and door handles. Engine choices will range from a 1.4L petrol with either 118bhp or 138bhp, a 178bhp 1.6L petrol and a 2.0L diesel with 163bhp. The chassi…

Vauxhall VXR8 Gets Supercharged Tuesday, September 04, 2007 | Link to Original Article @ Carscoop Funny ain't it; while Americans are still patiently waiting for the 362 Hp Pontiac G8, on the other side of the Atlantic, the Brits are being offered a supped up version of the HSV! As of this October, Vauxhall will offer a supercharger kit on the option list of the Holden Commodore HSV Clubsport R8 based, VXR8. From Auto Express: The powerhouse Vauxhall VXR8 is about to get even faster – and this time, it has the storming V10-engined Audi RS6 firmly in its sights. The Luton brand is currently finalising plans to offer a new 7.0-litre version of its supercar-chasing saloon, which will be based on the Australian Holden HSV unveiled at last month’s Melbourne Motor Show. And the British bruiser is expected to be badged the W427 when it arrives in UK dealers in September, carrying a price tag of around £55,000. Although neither Holden nor Vauxhall has revealed a power output for the new machine, unconfirmed reports from Australia claim the engine – which is borrowed from the la…

It has been revealed that over 11,000 jobs are to be cut across Europe, 1,400 of those are in the UK. These cuts are happening after Magna, the Canadian-based spare parts venture, agreed to take over Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors. Magna's restructuring of Opal is yet another sign that Europe's auto industry is flagging in the face of the recession, despite the spate of 'cash incentives' offered to consumers to buy new cars. General Motors had recently agreed to sell a 55 percent stake in its European units to Magna and Russian bank Sberbank, but last week at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Magna's co-chief executive, Siegfried Wolf, told reporters as many as 10,500 …

Auto Express first revealed the Luton firm's plans for a hi-tech Vectra replacement back in Issue 880, but now company sources have confirmed to us that when it unveils the new model in 2008, it will be called the Insignia. Speaking exclusively to Auto Express, Carl-Peter Forster, the European president of Vauxhall's parent firm General Motors, stressed: "We will change its name for the new car. "Vectra is too connected to the conservative current design. The new model will be sleek and more like a coupé to look at, but of course it will still be a family car." Vauxhall first used the Insignia name on a concept car seen three years ago. The sporty looking four-door fami…

What's the performance car badge to watch out for in 2007? That'll be VXR8. While Vauxhall is yet to officially announce the name of its new V8-powered sports model, Auto Express has learned that the firm's replacement for the Monaro coupé will be called the VXR8.
