With the '06 Lincoln Zephyr being a one-year only model (becoming MKZ for '07), I was trying to think of some other examples of models whose name lasted only 1 year... or for that matter, models that lasted only 1 year or whose design lasted only 1 year..pretty rare in modern times..

All right boys and girls. I know that we all know that GM has built several successful families of engines. So lets see if we can name the complete family of engines both small block and big block. While you're at it, if you can, give me years of service, chronologically (sp?) preferred. Also if there are multiple generations, then go ahead and toss them in too.

Hey, I've been thinking about how many cycles/versions the 3800 V6 has gone through. I can come up with these: 1) original version developed by Buick in the 1960s (sold to Jeep and then bought back) 2) 1970s version, returning in 1975, adapted for unleaded fuel and updated distributor/electronic ignition (odd-firing) (105 or 110 hp) 3) 1978 version, crankshaft journals are offset (becomes even firing) (105 or 110 hp) - remained well into the 80s, powering GM RWD intermediate series such as Cutlass Supreme, Regal, Grand Prix and Monte Carlo (though Chevy 4.3 V6 powered the latter two toward the end of their lives as RWDs) 4) 1985 version, modified for FWD, pow…

This car featured some very advanced technology in its day. A 10 foot 2 inch fiberglass body in the style of a city car and a hybrid powertrain. Notice no quotations on hybrid. It was refered to as a hybrid even though it was shown years before the Insight & Prius were twinkles in their respective Nipponese parent's eyes. As you might expect it had electric motors & a conventional gasoline engine as well.

So Julie needs a replacement for the Taurus... like yesterday. She's so damn picky it's been driving me bananas. I can't afford a new BMW or a Cadillac so we're thinking something new with a warranty but still under $24K. I might have found a winner, see if you can guess what it is....? - It is & isn't a GM product - RWD (with rear-biased 4-wheel drive optional) - Motor is longitudinally mounted - 5-speed manual available (I'm hoping I can convince her to go manual) - Timing Chain driven valvetrain - 24 valve V6 - 4-wheel independant suspension - Liquid-filled engine mounts

I've had several people ask if I was going to do MC trivia again. I wasn't sure since it is a lot of work to coordinate between the various boards, keeping track of the answers and scores, but the fun of it outweighs the "work". Sssooo....in the spirit of former contests (MC Jeopardy!, Knight's Challenge, MC Express) ... this is MC Sampler! Items 1 and 2 are "Jeopardy!" style; Items 3 and 4 are "Wheel Of Fortune" style; Items 5 and 6 are Visual Multiple Choice. PRIZES: One reason I wasn't sure about doing a contest again is because I'm not sure what the individual prizes will be. If you have a suggestion, let me know. In the meantime, I'm considering the "prize" fo…

Oldsmobile's new "small block" V8 for 1964 displaced 330 CID, right? It eventually morphed into 350, 260 and 403 CID versions as well (there may have been more iterations, but those be the only ones I can remember). Another (U.S.) domestic car brand had a 330 CID V8, but it only lasted one model year. Do y'all know which brand that was, and the model year?

This is a "cove", a sheltered inlet where land meets water. It's indented / concave shape is obvious. In automotive terms, the 'cove panel' was a widespread stylistic treatment found at the rear of a vehicle. While other locations have also been termed the same (the '56-62 Corvette's side scoop comes readily to mind), I would like to focus on the rear of vehicles. Part of the reason for that is; at one point the rear of vehicles got as much design attention as the front, roughly the mid '50s into the late '60s. But that standard fell by the wayside, and most modern cars wear quite bland rears. Like the geographical feature, the automotive cove panel wou…

O.K., somebody asked to start this thread----- so I did, as probably the oldest former Corvair owner! Tale from the past- My 1960 Corvair was ordered in the last 30 days of production, right after the GM entry had won its' class at the Sebring 24hr. race. That was were the 95hp Sebring engine came from, and I was told that less than 10 were built on production '60 models. It was a regular option in '61 and later. BTW, the standard engine was only 80hp. The differences were in the cam and exhaust system. It did have a very nice throaty sound. I had also ordered it with the 4-speed trans, but they reneigged on that option and I got it with the 3-speed stick. One fr…

I searched thinking there must be a thread on this in here but couldn't find it. Probably using the wrong search string.... oh well. I was recently looking up some info on Cars, the recent Pixar movie. EVERY car guy or gal should see this. Anyway, I was listening to some of the soundtrack and it got me thinking about just how many songs were inspired by our beloved GM. Most songs I know of are about GM models, engines, etc. There are a few about Fords. I'm sure there's gotta be some Mopar songs, though I don't know of them. I do not ever recall a song about a Honduh or TOYota. Okay, except "Pink Cadillac" which states that her (or his) love is bigger than a Hon…

I would give my right testicle to own this car, yet it was built (at least mechanically) by company I'm not all that smitten with and frankly, I consider to be over rated. The car I'm thinking of is, in my opinion, NEAR perfect as any car can ever hope to get while retaining it's B-pillar. It was born as a ragtop, then a few years later rebodied in Belgium... as far as who commissioned the newer more exotic body, a fire destroyed any records of that info. Here's a short list of features that make it unique: 1. fastback roofline 2. tailfin 3. approx 18 feet long 4. in 1991 a Japanese car collector paid $1.5 million for it 5. elegant wheel skirts…

I'm thinking of three cars, all three by the same manufacturer... 1.) this one off... built for the president of the company was restyled instead of replaced due to a temp. halt in passenger car production. It had a famous "nickname", The B _ _ _ _ B _ _ _ _ _ 2.) Two decades after the B.B. was built as a one-off & several years after passenger car production resumed a car was built, also a one-off custom, it could be called a concept car/design study of sorts, that replaced the now dated twice styled B.B. Once commonplace, a great many cars had rear license plates that could be swung downward, as the fuel filler pipe was concealed behind them. When you finished refueling & let the plate go, it returned to it's flush-mounted position, obviously so it could be read when the car was in motion. But there was a GM car that the rear plate would (by design) swing downward while the car was in motion. What, when & why did this occur?

All right guys, I've got a bit of a different take on the trivia deal we have here. Where were your vehicles built? Is the plant your vehicle was built at still in production? I am found in a Road & Track compilation of sports & GT cars. I am a V-8-powered RWD coupe with a manual trans. My motor is between 3.5 & 5.5 liters and it's aluminum. I am rather new, tho my name was used before. I am not japanese, and I am merely 1 full second slower in the 1/4-mile than the porsche carerra in the same issue. Be that as it may, my inclusion in this compilation, by many accounts, would easily be termed 'unexpected'... despite the fact that I am quicker than the majority of vehicles whom I share pages with.

The 2006 Camaro concept has incredikble styling, almost all of us agree about that. But now see how well you've really looked at it. Other than the b-pillar delete, hardtop bodystyle the Camaro has an interesting styling element that is virtually non-existant on today's cars. One of the last cars to have it was a FWD Oldsmobile. If you skew the definition of this component you might say there was also an Acura which was made in both 2dr & 4dr body styles that had this too. What feature am I talking bout? ------ ONE LAST HINT: This feature was most prevailant from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s.

Here we go... this one should be a decent challenge: This car has 6 wheels, rear engine layout & a central driving position It was built using a one off, supercharged, fuel injected 12-cylinder, 48 valve motor Two major "celebrities" of the 20th century were involved in this vehicle's birth It's sleek styling resulted in an ultra low darag coefficient: 0.18 The car was to be introduced to the world in a spectacular propaganda event on television but it never came to fruition and it now lives in a museum.

What were the last models in the US market to be offered with traditional sealed-beam round headlights (single or dual)? By manufacturer? I can think of a few, but am not 100% certain.

Who am I? I'm a two-seater, quite sporty if I might add... (for the era) You could either buy me assembled from the factory or in KIT form. In this instance, a series of boxes would arrive at your doorstep in exact order, 14 packages total, when the first was paid for, the next would be sent, with the buildup theoretically done concurrently as the packages arrived, the assembly being feasible for the average man. And, my "windshield" was bolted to the steering column.

I know these are Fords but can you name them and what year they are. They are all different. There isn't really a real name for the last one other than it was a Mustang. There was, however, a nickname for it. What is it?

The current issue of Collectible Automobile magazine features the (domestic) GM cars of 1959. I haven't seen the article yet but if it's at all like past efforts from this magazine, it should be pretty good. They frequently show photos of the prototypes as they evolve through time. The technical details are usually good too. I have almost all the issues of this magazine since its inception back in 1984. For anyone who likes old cars and trucks, this is a fine publication.
