So it's...OK-ish. Pretty much what it was expected to be. The roof is pretty cool anyway. The "Sky Slider" roof: The interior is...well....yea..... It has this trunk in the trunk thing that is sort of interesting. Power outlet in the back. The sport model doesn't have those terrible gray plastic fenders or bumpers anymore. Source: Autoblog Forums are fast becoming the bane of automakers that've spent a lot of time, energy and money coordinating a new car's debut. Nissan was hoping to debut the all-new 2009 Maxima tomorrow during the New York Auto Show, but forum Supernissans.net has burst this carmaker's bubble a bit early. Six pics of the new 2009 Nissan Maxima were posted on this forum, which we've included in the gallery below, and more have begun showing up on other sites around the web. We'll have details on the car, as well as more live shots and high-res official photos, tomorrow morning when the new Maxima rolls out on stage in the Big Apple. Until then, we're sure you're eager to…

While GMC's new-for-2010 Terrain crossover may be all but identical to Chevrolet's Equinox, one look at this bluff-faced polarizing design will tell you that badge-engineering wasn't part of the program at General Motors. Yes, both vehicles share the same platform, the same engine choices and even the same suspension calibrations, but the in-your-face look here is likely to inspire love-it-or-hate-it reactions. We'll let you decide on which side of the fence you sit, with one caveat: It is often the case that certain cars look better in the metal than on screen or in photographs. We were invited to GM's Design Dome for a media backgrounder, and after being in-and-around t…

The 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster and 2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z will be unveiled during a live webcast tonight at 7 PM EST, but we've got the details on both models ahead of their official debut. The Roadster retains the same greasy bits as the coupe, but adds open air action in the form of a new power-operated, fully-lined fabric top with a glass rear window. The top automatically connects to the windshield header so the driver doesn't have to fiddle around with a latch and it can be lowered or raised from inside or out, through the use of an interior-mounted switch or a button on the door handle. A glass wind blocker between the headrests keeps buffeting to a minimum without…

Chevrolet has revealed their second New York Auto Show showing last night and it happens to be the 2015 Cruze. Now for those who were expecting the automaker to launch the next-generation model will be disappointed as the 2015 model is a refresh. The new model isn't expected for a little longer. Changes for the 2015 model begin with a larger front grille and reshaped taillights. LT and LTZ models get LED running lights mounted below the headlights. Inside is where the big changes are. The Cruze's infotainment system now can read text messages to the driver, has Apple's Siri Eyes Free voice controls if you have an iPhone, and a 4G LTE connection that allows the vehicle t…

Let's go back in time, say about 2002 or so. It was then that Nissan introduced the Murano crossover and started a movement, A movement that cause many automakers to start building crossovers and proving that you don't need to make a SUV/Crossover look like a box. Well Nissan hopes to continue that movement with the third-generation Murano, which makes its official debut this week at the New York Auto Show. The third-generation Murano's design is very much in line with the Resonance Concept shown at last year's Detroit Auto Show. The front end has a toned-down version of the "V-Motion" nose and the boomerang-shaped headlights. Another design cue carried over from the Re…

We have been waiting for quite a while for Honda to reveal the production Civic Si and this morning, they did just that. The 2017 Honda Civic Si may not look completely bonkers like the Type R, but we're not complaining about it. The subtitle changes such as the blacked-out grille, 18-inch wheels, center-mounted exhaust, and rear spoiler help the Si stand out from other Civic models without going completely mad. Move inside and the Civic Si comes well equipped with sport bucket seats, red digital gauge cluster, faux carbon fiber trim, automatic climate control, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Under the hood is a tweake…

Three years on from its original launch, Acura has given the TLX a substantial refresh and revealed it on the eve of the New York Auto Show. Being of no surprise to anyone, the TLX is sporting a new face that was first shown on the Precision concept from last year's Detroit Auto Show. A huge pentagonal grille is flanked by a set of Acura's jewel-eye headlights. Some people will like this new look, while others (like myself) will be missing the shield/beak grille. Other design changes include a more sculpted hood and new fenders. The interior doesn't change much except the infotainment system has been overhauled to improve overall performance and add Apple CarPl…

To say the Buick Enclave was well past its sell-by-date would be an understatement. But to be fair, the Enclave was one of Buick's best-sellers. The 2018 Enclave that debuted tonight in New York has some big shoes to fill. The basic shape of the 2018 Enclave is the same as the outgoing model. What has changed are the front and rear ends. Buick's designers took the front off the Avista concept and put it onto the Enclave. The distinct grille with the Buick emblem floating and slim headlights are here. Around back is a restyled tailgate with a large chrome bar and narrow taillights. Buick borrowed the dash from LaCrosse for the Enclave's interior with flowing curves…

We thought Dodge was insane when they debuted the Challenger and Charger Hellcats a few years ago. Boy how wrong we were as tonight in a blaze of smoky glory, Dodge introduced the Challenger Demon. Built with drag racing in mind, the Demon can lift its front wheels off the ground during hard acceleration. It is so fast that the Demon in its stock form has been banned from drag-racing competition by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) - we'll explain why shortly. Here are all of the juicy details about the Demon, 6.2L supercharged V8 capable of producing 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque* *That's with the optional Demon Cra…

When Hyundai unveiled the current Sonata at 2014 New York Auto Show, it landed with a bit of thud. Compared to the previous-generation model that stood out from the crowd with a sharp design, the new model was a bit dull. Hyundai is addressing this with a heavily refreshed Sonata that made its debut today in New York. The 2018 Sonata has a bit more personality thanks to new pentagonal grille (Sport and 2.0T models get a mesh insert), reshaped hood, smaller headlights, new trunk lid, and LED taillights. For the interior, Hyundai has redesigned the center stack, updated the instrument cluster, and added a USB port for rear seat passengers. Engines are the same as th…

The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the past few years. Thanks the numerous spy shots and rumors over the past couple of years, we have gotten a good idea of what's in store. It doesn't hurt that Jeep's CEO Mike Manley confirmed this last year. Before the New York Auto Show kicks off this week, Jeep has finally unveiled the details on what they call "The Most Powerful and Quickest SUV Ever". Let's get to the specifications first: Supercharged 6.2L V8 - 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque Upgraded Eight-Speed Automatic and all-wheel drive system to handle this immense power (Rumor had it that Jeep's engine…

Following the LS 500 at Detroit and the LS 500h at Geneva, New York will be the home for the 2018 LS 500 F-Sport debut. Before we get any further, we need to temper expectations. This isn't a fully fledged F model like the GS F or RC F where they get noticeable power increases. Instead, the F-Sport is more of an aesthetic and handling package. From the outside, the F-Sport adds a mesh grille, larger air vents, side skirts, 20-inch wheels, and special shade of white that is exclusive to the LS F-Sport. The interior comes with new sport seats, an F-Sport steering wheel, brushed aluminum trim, and a revised instrument cluster. A handling package that brings varia…

It may be hard to remember, but Lincoln was one of the first automakers to introduce us all to highly-posh large SUV with the Navigator. But it was quickly overshadowed by the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and others. Last Night in New York, Lincoln introduced an all-new Navigator that will hopefully put it and the Lincoln brand as a whole back in the spotlight. We're glad to see Lincoln keeping most of the design of the Navigator concept shown last year. That includes the large, intricate chrome grille; turbine-style wheels, side vents on the fenders, and a slightly rounded shape. Like its sister model, the Ford Expedition, the 2018 Navigator uses aluminum body pane…

Mercedes' AMG lineup is already crowded with models but that isn't stopping from introducing two new models for New York next week. Meet the 2018 GLC63 and GLC63 Coupe. The GLE63 comes with a 4.0L biturbo V8 engine producing 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Those who are power hungry will be pleased with the GLE63S Coupe with 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Both come paired with a nine-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. 0-60 mph takes 3.9 seconds in the GLC63 and 3.7 seconds in the S. Other mechanical changes include an air suspension, speed-sensitive steering, three-stage stability control, and a rear limited-…

It seems like forever since Mazda announced plans to introduce a diesel engine for the U.S. market. You need to go all the way back to 2010 when the Japanese automaker first announced its intentions, with the ambitious goal of meeting stringent emissions standards without a costly exhaust aftertreatment system. Ambitious and one that would end up going nowhere. After almost a decade of various delays, changing plans, and the elephant in the room that is the Volkswagen diesel emission scandal, Mazda has finally announced that they will begin selling a CX-5 turbodiesel beginning this year. No launch window was given, but the company has announced they are beginni…

The upcoming New York Auto Show looks to be all about the crossovers. We've already been teased with the 2019 Toyota RAV4, now Subaru is teasing the 2019 Forester. We can't tell much aside from the taillights looking similar to the larger Ascent crossover. It would come as no surprise if the Forester takes many of the design elements of the Ascent. The 2019 Forester will be the next Subaru vehicle to transition to the modular Subaru Global platform. We expect to have more details including what engines will power the new Forester and a release timeframe in a couple of weeks. Source: Subaru View full article

Ford unveiled the 2020 Escape ahead of the New York International Auto Show and yesterday I finally got my chance to check it out. The Escape’s overall shape has lost some of its edge. It is now more rounded and car-like born out by the fact that it is longer, lower, and wider than the current model. From certain angles in the front, it almost looks to be a Tesla, an association I’m sure Ford won’t mind me making. In back, it has lost almost all of its character. Scrape the badges off and I couldn't tell you what manufacturer this car came from. Inside is a mixed bag. The dash is laid out in a simple organized fashion and I like how it no longer juts out at yo…

Hyundai released some sketches of their upcoming Venue due to debut at the New York International Auto Show next week. The Hyundai Venue will be the smallest and least expensive crossover in the Hyundai lineup. From the images, we can see what appears to be a 3 door crossover with a deep-set grille similar in shape and texture to the Hyundai Santa Fe. Deep creases run along the sides to pod like tail lamps. The interior looks handsome and minimalist with a simple 3 dial HVAC control setup, a touchscreen center display and the same row of buttons found on other Hyundai vehicles. It would be interesting if Hyundai does take the route of a 3 door crossove…

At last, we finally know the last showing from Chevrolet for the New York Auto Show and it's the announcement of the Trax coming to the U.S. early next year. Now the Trax has been on sale in other countries for the past couple of years, and some were clamoring GM to sell it here. We're guessing that the success of the Buick Encore and the growing marketplace of subcompact SUVs made GM reconsider this. “Trax offers customers another option in the Chevrolet family and will be a strong competitor in the emerging small-SUV market, which is expected to grow more than 80 percent by 2016. Trax also leverages our global resources and builds on Chevrolet’s strong SUV heritage,” …

Consider Audi's plan for the A3 lineup in the U.S. There will be the A3 Sedan, S3 Sedan, A3 Cabriolet, a TDI version of the sedan, and A3 Sportback e-tron, which is the gasoline-electric hybrid. Pretty large lineup to say in the least? Well you can add another one as the company announced that the A3 Sportback TDI will becoming to the U.S. next summer at the New York Auto Show today. The A3 Sportback TDI will come with a new 2.0L TDI four-cylinder with 150 horsepower, paired with a six-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic. Auto Show Quick View: 2010 Toyota Venza First in this series of auto show quick views; the 2010 Toyota Venza. I decided to do a writeup for the Venza because... well... it was there and it looked lonely. Seriously, most of the Toyota exhibit was abandoned since Toyota wasn't unveiling anything at the show. I picked the Venza because it's a relatively new vehicle that most people are unfamiliar with, at least close up. Exterior: One of the first things that strikes me about the Venza is it's attractive stance from the rear. From the rear you notice the Volvo tail lamps that Toyota successfully melded into their own car. It has a lot more style and character than any…

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 27, 2012 There certainly aren’t many large cars in the world more dull and geriatric than Toyota’s Avalon. Drum up your thoughts about the current model, which went on sale all the way back in 2005, and you’re sure to think of retirement homes and Shoney’s rather than sporting arenas and Hooters. However, Toyota desperately wants to change all of that. The teaser image above was released today, and Toyota says it previews a “stunning US-designed sedan” the name of which hasn’t been officially confirmed. Not to worry, though, because you don’t need inside confirmation to work out this is probably the new Avalon. The te…

If you had the chance to read our story on the Lincoln Continental yesterday, then you read this line: "The overall look of the Continental Concept oddly reminds us of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur." We're not the only one to take notice of this. Car Design News reports that Bentley isn't too keen on this similarity. Luc Donckerwolke, Bentley's chief designer went to Facebook to voice his complaints. "I would have called it Flying Spur concept and kept the four round lights," said Donckerwolke. Donckerwolke then went to Lincoln chief designer David Woodhouse's Facebook to say, "Do you want us to send the product tooling?" Since then, the comment was deleted, b…

I just got back from the New York auto show and this year's theme seems to be big sedans! Ford showed off the new Taurus last year leading the way for GM to show off the new Impala, Toyota to introduce the new Avalon, Nissan unveiled the 2013 mid-sized Altima... What do you think of them? http://automotivetraveler.com/jump/3926

Buick & GMC Get Their Version Of MyLink Called IntelliLink William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 19, 2011 Back in February, GM introduced their competitor to SYNC called MyLink. The system allows a driver to control different functions of the infotainment system, allow bluetooth streaming, and the use of Pandora and Stitcher online podcast radio to name a few features. Now, GM is expanding the roll out of their MyLink infotainment system to Buick and GMC vehicles. Renamed IntelliLink, the system is the same as MyLink. Drivers will be able to control IntelliLink either on a 7 to 8 inch screen or their voice. Enhanced USB and Blueto…

At first glance, you might be thinking why is Buick teasing the LaCrosse sedan again. But actually, what you are looking at is the 2018 Buick Enclave that will be debuting next month at the New York Auto Show. The image shows the Enclave following the footsteps of the Encore and LaCrosse with a new waterfall grille and slimmer headlights. From spy shots we reported on last month, we're not expecting any major changes in the overall shape. Expect the current 3.6L V6 producing 305 horsepower to be residing under the hood, paired with a nine-speed automatic. Source: Buick View full article

The last event I attended for the NYIAS media days was the Volt nation event, a "town hall" style meeting between members of the of the Volt production team and 250 or so people who registered for the event on GM-Volt.com. The creator of GM-Volt, Lyle Dennis, engineered this event, which brought together the car's creators and its enthusiasts and, in all likelihood, its first buyers. A little more than halfway through the event, Bob Lutz dropped in and answered a few more questions and basically reaffirmed GM's unwavering commitment to the Volt. The full text and video coverage should be available on GM-Volt relatively shortly, so be sure to keep an eye out for it (unfort…

C&G @ NYIAS: Impressions by z28luvr01 Well, it's been just over a week since the NYIAS press days, and what better way to round out my coverage than by writing a few words about my overall impressions of the events? For two days I got to live the life of an automotive journalist, witnessing debuts first-hand, speaking with people within GM, and acquiring a perspective on the company that can't really be gotten from attending the show when it's open to the public. I am delighted and honored to have been given the opportunity to attend the press days, and I have to take a moment to thank Doug Wernert and Mary Horvat of Weber-Shadwick (GM's PR firm) for doing whateve…

The first media event for the New York Auto Show was a luncheon with folks from Buick’s design team. Located at Cipriani restaurant on 42nd street, the event was a celebration of Buick’s past, present, and future design. Upon walking into the restaurant and handing off my belongings to the coat-check people, I was greeted by the legendary Buick Y-Job concept. What a sight this vehicle is in person! It's everything Buick has stood for in the past and willl once again. You can never go wrong with graceful, flowing lines and the highest attention to detail. Situated towards the rear of the presentation area was a giant screen (for the presentation) flanked by the Velite a…

Saab has made quite a showing at the new York Auto Show this year, showing the 9-x and 9-4x concepts in Noth America for the first time while debuting the "Pure Biopower" clothing line. More on those items later. Before dinner at The Park restaurant I had the opportunity to have a nice concersation with Jan0Willen Vester, Saab USA Brand Manager. Being someone who's grown up lusting after tire-melting Chevys and Pontiac, I never had much insight into the Saab culture, so my conversation with Mr. Vester served as quite the eye opener. Here are some of thekey points: GM basically kept a hands-off approach with Saab from the time it purchased 50% of Saab in 1990 until the t…

Shortly after my conversation with Mr. Jan-Willem Vester of Saab, we began piling into the seating area at The Park restaurant, and I had the privilege of sitting next to David Poniatowski (product manager for the Solstice and Vibe, former GTO product manager) and Bruce Kosbab, chief engineer for the Solstice. Here are main points of our conversation Building the Solstice using as mny off-the-shelf GM parts as possible wasn't only cost effective, it was also a lot of fun. The program felt almost like an episode of "Junkyard Wars" The Kappa architecture is actually smilar to a BOF vehicle, except that the body is welded to the frame instead of bolted to it. So just to review, GM has annouced there will be 6 new production cars and 1 never before seen concept. Here is what's confirmed. Production cars 1: H2 MCE 2: H3 Alpha 3: Lacrosse Super 4: Lucerne Super 5: STS MCE 6: ... Concept 7: ...probably the Hummer H4 concept Update: Or no, probably not a Hummer. Seems it will be a Chevy now. As for #6, the most likely car seems to be the regular LaCrosse MCE or the Saab 9-3 MCE. The Cobalt MCE or the HHR SS are possible also...however there now seems to be a chance Chevy won't have an NYC debut at all. Can't confirm that one way or the other yet. **MCE = Mid-cycle Enhancement. AKA: Facelift or refresh.**

New York looks to be the big show for Dodge this year. The brand announced yesterday that they'll showing off the revised 2015 Charger and Challenger at the show. The 2015 Charger looks undergoing some major changes judging from a teaser shot released by Dodge which shows the blunt, angry looks are changing into something a bit smoother. As for the Challenger, Dodge says in the release "features a new powertrain combination that is sure to get enthusiasts "abuzz." Could this mean that the rumored Hellcat V8 with up to 640 horsepower will play a key role? Also expect tweaks to the front and rear end, along with a revised interior. The Cadillac ATS and CTS didn't sell well. They had great handling and a large selection of engines, but they were hampered by interiors that were cramped for the class and infotainment systems that could confound people. Sedans are dying, Cadillac gets that too. That's why they are consolidating the ATS and CTS onto a single car called the CT5, released last week at the New York International Auto Show. Rumors have it that the CT5 will start in the mid-30s and Cadillac is insisting that, despite its size, the CT5 is aligned against the 3-series and C-Class. But in doing so, where does that leave the car? Could Cadillac be realigning their cars so they become the larges…

The Hyundai Sonata broke cover a couple of weeks before the New York Auto Show, but I finally got to see it on Thursday. While there are frequent reports that the midsize sedan segment is dying, it still is able to move about 153,000 units just in the month of March. Hyundai sees an opportunity here as some of its competition, namely the Ford Fusion, will be going to the great used-car lot in the sky in the near future. Still, the Sonata has only sold around 21,000 units year to date while Nissan can move that many Altimas in a month and Accord and Camry do even better. So what is Hyundai going for here by introducing a new Sonata? They're going for sexy. The mi…

Arguably, one of the most important reveals at the New York Auto Show is the Hyundai Venue. The Venue is Hyundai’s smallest crossover slotting in just below the Kona. With a price starting somewhere in the $17k - $18k range, it will also likely be the most prolific of the cars unveiled this week. The Venue’s main competition is the Nissan Kicks, Kia Soul, Jeep Renegade, and Ford EcoSport. Outside, the Venue sits perky and upright, it will be the shortest length crossover on the market when it goes on sale in the fall. In spite of its diminutive size, it manages to look more premium than it is. It’s about 5 inches shorter than the Hyundai Kona which sits just abov…

One of the most anticipated releases of the New York International Auto Show was the 2020 Lincoln Corsair. The Corsair is the replacement for the Lincoln MKC, and with that, Lincoln has only two MK vehicles left in production, the MKT which is surprisingly still in production, and the MKZ which may go away once the Ford Fusion dies out. Lincoln upgraded the MKX to Nautilus for 2019. That same year, the MKC got a refresh to look more like the rest of the Lincoln lineup for the 2019 model year only and that was an evolutionary step to the Corsair we see today. To say that the Corsair is a step up from the MKC is probably an understatement. Though similar in exterior …

I just realized, the only GM press conference for NYIAS was this morning. That means we've seen all we're going to get. No Cobalt MCE, HHR SS or 9-3 MCE. I would guess you can expect a seperate debut event, maybe at the Milford Proving Grounds, for some of those 3 this summer. So the 6 production vehicles were: : LaCrosse Super, Lacrosse MCE, Lucerne Super, H2 MCE, H3 Alpha and STS MCE.

So around 12:30 PM on Tuesday, me, the wife, and the two boys get into the Envoy and head north up the NJ Turnpike to NYC to attend the 2008 New York International Auto Show. First was a visit to the Times Square Toys R Us, as it was Justin's first time to that store and all of our first time on the famous indoor Ferris Wheel. Afterwards, the wife likes to go to Planet Hollywood for lunch, so we headed one block over to eat. At this point, it's a little after 4:00 PM and I want to head over to the Jacob Javits Center for the car show. A very interesting 15 minute cab ride later, we arrive and get started.
