The Nissan Versa once held the dubious title of being the cheapest new car you could buy. Now, with the all new 2020 Nissan Versa, Nissan hopes to bring the sub-compact a little bit more premium and with that the Versa goes up in price. Now coming only in a sedan (The Kicks has replaced the Versa Note), the Versa wears one of the more stylish exteriors for the sub-compact class. The engine is a next generation 1.6 liter 4-cylinder, with an increase in horsepower to 122. Fuel economy is rated at 32 city / 40 highway / 35 combined. Those of you who prefer to row your own gears instead of letting Nissan's CVT do it are limited to buying the base model Versa S, star…

The past year is one that Nissan would like to forget. Their former CEO is arrested and then escapes to Lebanon. Shareholders are angry at the new leadership. Sales have been cratering and other issues. But the automaker is trying to get itself out of the hole by launching 10 new models in the next 20 months. The next model has been revealed this week - the 2022 Ariya EV. A compact SUV, the Ariya certainly looks futuristic with distinctive sculpting along the side, new "shield"-style front insert, and flowing roofline. Inside, Nissan goes for a minimalist approach with little brightwork and a row of touch-capacitive controls for the climate system that disappear when …

Just announced in the news......Nissan is moving their N.A. headquarters from Gardena (L.A.) to the Nashville area where they have an assembly plant (Smyrna, TN.) 1,300 jobs will be transferred from Southern California to the Nashville area. Personally, I think this is a MAJOR mistake for Nissan. Why? 1) The car culture in Southern California is second-to-none in this country. 2) Trend-setting is also second-to-none (maybe along with New York) in this country. 3) Southern California is an automotive dynamo with numerous different manufacturers having their N.A. headquarters here and most also have design studios here (GM even has one in North Hollywood.) That…

SPY SHOTS! 2009 Nissan Murano Link to Original Article @ TCC Nissan is preparing a replacement for the successful Murano, which has been on the market since 2003 in the United States and in Europe since 2004. These photos show, for the first time, a prototype of its successor, caught during secret testing in Southern Europe. It is a right-hand drive car and was accompanied by the just-launched Nissan Qashqai. Despite the prototype's disguise one can recognize the new styling of the front-engined SUV, which will again be available with front- or all-wheel drive. Judging by the advance stage of this test car one can expect the new Murano's launch by the end of next yea…

Nissan recalls 140,582 Altimas because air filter may ignite By Greg Bensinger | Link to Original Article @ The Chicago Tribune | Published July 9, 2007, 12:26 PM CDT Nissan Motor Co. is recalling 140,582 of its 2007 Altima cars, the automaker's best-selling U.S. vehicle, because the air filter can catch fire if a hot object is drawn into it. The recall affects Altima cars with a 2.5-liter, four- cylinder engine, the Tokyo-based automaker told the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Nissan told the Washington-based agency it began notifying owners July 3. Four fires were reported in February and March, the company said. The filter will be replaced be…

Larger Titan Trashed Nissan may dump heavy-duty pickup program By RICK KRANZ | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Updated: 03/12/07, 2:30 pm et GENEVA - Nissan Motor Co. has suspended development of its heavy-duty pickup and may scrap the program. It also will abandon some of its body-on-frame SUVs, replacing them with lighter, more fuel-efficient crossovers when those SUVs are scheduled to be replaced. The Infiniti QX56 and the Nissan Pathfinder and Armada use body-on-frame construction. "Not all but part of the SUVs are going to shift to monoque, unibody," Carlos Tavares, Nissan's product development boss, said in an interview at the auto…

Spied: 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe A member on Car and Driver's forums snapped these pics of the new Altima Coupe. I'm guessing this will be released in mid to late 2007 as a 2008 model. The pics are somewhat small and a bit blurry but from what I can see, it's much nicer than the bubbly in comparison Accord and the just plain wierd Solara. Titan Diesel for 2009 Navistar-sourced motor for light-duty pickup By BOB GRTIZINGER | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Published 06/15/07, 1:01 pm et News reports from Japan confirm that Nissan will put a diesel in its Titan full-size pickup truck by 2009, but so far the Japanese automaker shows no hint of interest in launching a truck in the heavy-duty pickup segment. Nissan reportedly will buy V8 diesel engines from International Truck and Engine Corp. Automotive News has reported that the company also may offer a low-budget V6 gasoline engine in the Titan in the future. The Titan’s only powerplant is a 5.6-liter, 317-hp, 385-lb-ft V8 gasoline engine. Nissa…

Spied: 2008 Nissan Armada For 2007, Nissan already announced a power increase and optional flex fuel capability for the 5.6-liter V8 so we don't expect any big changes under the hood. We did, however, manage to get an interior shot which shows several upgrades to the cabin. The center stack is all-new with an integrated navigation screen and some switchgear borrowed from Infiniti. The climate and radio controls have swapped spots and the vents have been moved up a little. Twin analog dials now dominate the gauge cluster in place of the current model's setup which gives you a big central speedo with the rest of auxiliary gauges sprinkled on each side. It appears as thou…

GT-R Going Upscale: Next-gen Skyline to be sold as Infiniti in U.S., sources say KATHY JACKSON | Automotive News Posted Date: 12/5/05 LOS ANGELES - The next-generation Skyline GT-R, a high-performance sports car, will be sold as an Infiniti in the United States, say two sources familiar with Nissan Motor Co. The most recent GT-R concept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The production model will be shown at the Tokyo show in 2007. The sources say the vehicle will be either…

Part family sedan, part hooligan By Karl Brauer Date posted: 04-17-2006 The Altima is arguably the most important Nissan product of the last decade. If you go back a mere 10 years and look at Nissan circa 1996 you'll see a company struggling to survive in the North American market. The Z was about to die. The "premium" products coming out of Infiniti were lackluster at best, and nothing in Nissan's future portfolio indicated a turnaround was anywhere on the horizon. Fast-forward to the New York auto show — spring of 2001. Nissan rolls out an all-new Altima that offers more interior space, more horsepower and considerably more attitude than the former family sedan be…

Nissan sales slump short-lived: Ghosn

Nissan Motor Co. Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn sought to allay fears of a protracted fall in the auto maker's sales, characterizing last month's sudden, sharp slide as a short-lived reaction to the completion in September of a highly publicized sales drive. Under its last business plan, Japan's second-biggest auto maker had promised to sell 3.6 million vehicles globally in the 12 months through September 30. With the final tally at 3.671 million, Nissan delivered on all three commitments under the "Nissan 180" plan: 1 million additional sales versus fiscal 2001, an operating margin of at least 8 percent and zero automotive debt. But in an evi…

Nissan to Revive the SX/Silvia? Call it the Silvia or the 240SX or the 200SX (read up on the various names of the 200SX and where they were sold in the world here), but Nissan's now demised budget rear-wheel drive platform has been sorely missed in its homeland of Japan, in our own North America and elsewhere around the world. Word has it, however, that Nissan is considering a new rear-wheel drive coupe that would take up the 200SX cause of rear-wheel drive fun for the huddled masses. The Foria Concept (shown above) that debuted at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show is the front running candidate to become a new 200SX, considering the good reaction it garnered at that year's sh…

Nissan Rolls Out Fuel-Efficiency Gauge To Boost "Eco Driving" Date posted: 08-21-2007 | Link to Original Article @ Edmunds TOKYO — As part of its ongoing effort to get drivers to think green behind the wheel, Nissan on Tuesday said it is rolling out a fuel-efficiency gauge as a standard feature on such current models as the Altima and Infiniti G35 in the U.S. The company predicts it could "lead to an average 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency." And Nissan employees and retirees who didn't reach age 65 by the end of last year won't be included in a company-sponsored medical plan once they reach 65. Nissan says the changes are part of an effort to keep its retirement plan viable and to remain competitive in the automotive industry. Edmunds Evaluation: 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5SE Remember the '80s? You know — leg warmers, the Cold War, Punky Brewster? At the tail end of that let's-just-forget-it-ever-happened decade, Nissan introduced a revamped Maxima, the ads for which bore the well-known tagline: "The four-door sports car." Fast-forward 18 years. Driving the 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE, that old tagline keeps popping into the brain. And while real sports cars don't have automatic transmissions or front-wheel drive or even a backseat, it's obvious that Nissan has quietly made the Altima the spiritual successor of that tagline's underlying philosophy: Just because a car has four doors doesn't mean it…

Here are some pictures I took of the 2010 Nissan Cube at the Montreal International Autoshow in Quebec, Canada on Tuesday January 20th. This is one very silly little car. Interior has terrible plastics (and ergonomics) and has very little legroom for front passengers. It looks like a retarded clown car from the outside. The hinge for the rear door has to have a bubble in the bodywork to fit. This should appeal only to those hardcore JDM fans. VIDEO:

Lookin good lookin good.... Spy photographers have caught the first ever images of the redesigned Nissan Maxima, a month ahead of it’s New York Auto Show introduction. With sales expected to begin this fall, the seventh-generation will be badged as a 2009 model. A Renault-Nissan diesel powerplant is expected to follow the initial engine offerings, arriving in a couple years as a 2011 model. In addition to the diesel motor, a Toyota-developed hybrid system may also be offered – and we’re expecting this as early as the 2010 model year! Watch for the uncloaked version to debut next month! Nissan cuts SUV, truck production Japanese automaker's U.S. plants slash output of Titan, other big vehicles after rise in gas prices. Christine Tierney / The Detroit News Saddled with large inventories of light trucks, Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. has cut back production of the large Titan pickup and big sport utility vehicles built at its U.S. plants. Last month, Nissan slashed output of the Titan at its Canton, Miss., plant by 29 percent, to 5,680 vehicles. Not Happy Loss of GT-R sports car to Nissan angers Infiniti dealers By KATHY JACKSON | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 04/17/06, 10:36 am et NEW YORK -- Infiniti dealers were incensed last week by Nissan Motor Co.'s decision to sell the high-performance GT-R sports car under the Nissan brand. Infiniti lacks a sports car, and dealers desperately wanted the GT-R as a halo for the brand. It goes on sale in the United States in spring 2008. You would think that Nissan has forgotten about the 370Z, considering not much has been done to it in some time. But the Japanese automaker wants to make it clear they haven't forgotten about their sports car. They have been quietly working on the next-generation model. Last night, Nissan introduced the Z Proto which is a thinly-veiled concept of the next-generation model, possibly named 400Z due out within the next few years. You will instantly recognize the Z Proto as being part of the Z family. Nissan's designers draw quite heavily from the original 240Z up front as evidenced by the hood, teardrop-shaped LED headlamps (only available on Japanese-market 240), and squ…

A little over a week ago we told you that Nissan was going to start cutting parts of its model lineup. Some of the low hanging fruit for Nissan are the variants of the Nissan Titan. Nissan Titan sales are down 22.6 percent, selling only 18,026 copies in the first half of 2019. The biggest news is that Nissan will be killing off the Cummins diesel option for the Titan XD. The 5 liter turbocharged V8 produces 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. For 2020, the Titan XD will be powered solely by the 5.6 liter gasoline V8 unless Nissan has a card up their sleeve to offer something else. Also going away will be the standard cab variants of the Titan and Titan XD…

These new banner ads look like drug ads. "Find out if Versa is right for you" To learn more "Download PDF", where download pdf is in a pill shape. Versa (next generation subcompact) And of course touting the 36mpg highway What Nissan hasn't seemed to realize is everyone hates drug ads. Are people going ga-ga over 36mpg in this car? Mom's old '94 base Bonneville could do 32mpg highway if you were gentle. Cobalts and 4-cylinder Malibus hit 36 mpg no problem. V6s do 33.

The First Test of a Versa-tile Machine Nissan's new subcompact is set to hit dealers pretty soon but before it does Edmunds has decided to take the new Versa out for a trial run. Nissan seems intent on making this a vehicle with high value in its class, so how does it stack to the likes of the Yaris and Fit? Read the First Drive of the 2007 Nissan Versa 1.8SL @ Edmunds

Imagine that you spend $75,000 on a new Nissan GTR with a claimed 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds. You take your sports car to the drag strip to try and validate the claim, but you can tell right away you are not getting full performance from the car. You check with your GTR buddies, and one of them tells you that you must put the car into 'Launch Control' to get maximum performance. So you take it back to the track, turn off the car's VDC (vehicle differential control?) to engage launch control and the car runs much faster. You are starting to feel much better about your life until.............. Full thread here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CmLT05qZ8Q -check th…

As we've seen in prior months, GM, Ford, and Chrysler all love to tease us with shadowy, vague photos of their upcoming wares. Now, Nissan is joining in on the fun by releasing a teaser of their upcoming Pathfinder concept, set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month. From what the teaser images show, the Pathfinder's sheetmetal moves from the rugged, boxy formula of the current model to a more flowing, aerodynamic design. There have been rumors that Nissan could be moving the upcoming Pathfinder to a unibody architecture (like Ford did with the Explorer), and there's no doubt the new styling along with Nissan's claims of a new platform for this new model will only …

G. Noble Editor/Reporter CheersandGears.com March 2, 2012 According to Nikkei, one of Japan’s leading news sources, Nissan could be setting the stage for a revival of the Datsun brand in 2014. The Datsun brand has been in mothballs for about 26 years (since 1986) when Nissan phased the name out in the American market in favor of its own. However, that doesn’t mean you should expect to see Datsun badges on the next Z car, or any other future Nissan for that matter. Nikkei’s report claims that the revived Datsun brand would dirty its hands by building and selling inexpensive cars in emerging markets for Nissan such as India and Indonesia, which probably means you won’t …

Nissan was the first automaker to offer hybrid version of their 7-seat crossovers, the Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 Hybrids. It now seems they are first one to kill off their hybrid crossovers. Green Car Reports found out that if you visit the Pathfinder Hybrid page, you are shown a message that says the "Pathfinder Hybrid is no longer available". When asked for comment, Nissan's senior communications manager Dan Passe said, "Pathfinder Hybrid is no longer on sale at Nissan dealers. Nissan is focusing its manufacturing, marketing, and dealer resources on the 3.5-liter V6-powered Pathfinder, which achieves up to 27 highway miles per gallon." No reason was given…

Nissan decided to their commercial on the Super Bowl to reveal two new cars. The first is their LMP1 racer that will enter Le Mans in June. What makes their racer stand out is that it happens to be a front-engine model, not the mid-engine variety that has been part of endurance racing for quite awhile. Now for the big surprise of the ad. Towards the end of the ad, there's a peculiar sedan draped in red which looks very familiar to the Sports Sedan Concept shown at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Before it fades to black, we see the back of the sedan where the Maxima nameplate appears. We'll likely learn more about the Maxima in the coming months. In the meantime, you can ch…

Next Nissan Altima To Get New CVT & Supercharged Hybrid William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com October 13, 2011 Nissan is hard at work on the next generation Altima due out sometime next year as a 2013 model and is expected to see an increase in fuel economy thanks to two items. First is a new CVT that will improve the fuel economy by as much as 10%. Nissan reduced the transmission’s internal friction by 40 percent and raised the CVT’s gear coverage ratio from 6.0 to 7.0. Given the current CVT in the Altima helps gives it a EPA rating of 32 MPG highway, the new one should see that number climb. Also, Nissan is working on their own in-ho…

Nissan is making a big deal about the Maxima at the moment. But a few years back, the automaker was considering to kill the model. Automotive News reports that back in 2012, the industry was in the midsts of recovering from the recession and high gas prices were causing many automakers to work on compacts and smaller vehicles. Nissan was no exception to that trend as they were introducing the new Nissan Leaf and working on a new compact. "A lot of people assume it was a forgone conclusion that, of course we will continue with another Maxima. But frankly, the forgone conclusion at that moment was that there would not be another Maxima," said Pierre Loing, vice pres…

Reviews: 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Combining speed, handling prowess and a well-appointed luxury interior, the 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe is likely to win even more fans than it already has. Edmunds --- In the end, the G37 is still a fun-to-drive coupe with some attitude: it’s just that what’s there has been toned down quite a bit from the last model. While that’s bad for us hard-core enthusiasts, the extra refinement is a big improvement for those who have to live with the car everyday, whether sitting in traffic or cruising on the freeway. It’s not the quirky, jittery, manic machine the G35 was, but the Force is definitely with the G37. Car and Driver

Yutaka Katayama, a former executive for Nissan and "father of the Z,"passed away this week at the age 105 due to heart failure. His son Mitsuo confirmed the news to The Associated Press. Katayama has a long history with Nissan as he joined the company back in 1935. He held many roles at the company dealing with marketing and publicity. Many consider his greatest achievement to be the person who gave life to the original Datsun Z sports car. "A car is a horse. I want to drive a thoroughbred that's in tune with my heartbeat, but not something that's too dressed up for someone like me," said Katayama to The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. To be fair, make sure you pick the 5.3l Silverado; it's fairly comparable hp-wise, but lacks about 40ft-lbs of torque.. but is a bit of a push in my book as the Silverado gets better gas mileage. I was watching a best motoring episode and the Drift King (Keichi Tsuchiya) mentioned that the Nissan GTR is not a true Supercar due to the fact that it's too heavy. He does have a point. The GTR weights 3800 lbs and is heavier than all the other cars in its category. Also, it has back seats which some people would classify as more of a high performance sports coupe. I highly respect the GTR's capabilities but feel there's a certain untangible that is missing. Maybe it's driving feel, or how you can't feel the passion when driving it hard like you do with a Ferrari 458. What do you guys/girls think?

With the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon heading into showrooms in a few months, we've haven't heard anything from Nissan or Toyota about what they have in store for their next-generation midsize trucks. But that has changed for one automaker. The Truth About Cars has heard some information about what's in store for the next-generation Frontier. A supplier source has told them that Nissan will be using the new Navara truck as the base for the next-generation truck. Previously, Nissan was going to use bones of the first-generation Frontier (D22 platform) for their next-generation truck. The reason for this is that the company saw a possible chance for the affordable, fu…

For awhile, it seem Nissan was going a bit crazy with exciting, performance-focused concepts. Recent examples include the IDx concept, the distinctive electric BladeGlider concept, and the Formula One inspired Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept. Executives at both automakers talked up these concepts and the possibility of them going into production. But now, talk has almost gone to a dead silence. Nissan is working hard into changing its performance and racing arm, NISMO, into a real player. This is being shown by how many hatchbacks and sport cars are coming out with the NISMO name. But NISMO is considering expanding their reach to other Nissan models. CarAdvice.com.au recently spoke with Nissan marketing chief Darren Cox and Nismo boss Shoichi Miyatani, and both said a Nismo-tuned SUV or pickup are on the table. That could include the Navara and Qashqai crossover. But there's no telling what other vehicles could go under the NISMO transformation. “Nismo has to be a credible production car from Nissan that’s sporty and therefore we study the implications of that…

From the March C/D i just got today 98 cubic feet interior space -this intrigues me, my old Diamante had 97 cubic feet, as did the saturn L series, so this makes me think the new Sentra is quite large inside for a compact series car. 135hp 2.0 litre engine with 6 speed manual standard -fun and mpg? this car might be more appealing than i thought it would be. certainly its nicer than the corolla. space in vehicles is awesome. civic coupe has like FiFTEEN cubicfeet LESS inside. William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com July 18, 2013 "If you slash prices, they will come." Okay, maybe I sightly altered one of the famous quotes from Field of Dreams, but if you worked at Nissan, this quote would ring very true. Earlier this year, the company announced they would be cutting the price of Leaf by $6,000 and extending the range. This price cut is working as past few months have seen Leaf sales right around 2,000 unit mark. This has also prompted other EV manufacturers to either offer incentives or price drops. The price drop has also caused a problem for Nissan; the demand for Leafs is outstripping the supply. "We're going to be short on in…

Nissan and Toyota HD Trucks Postponed Both Toyota and Nissan were planning on entering the full-size heavy duty pickup truck market soon, but both automakers have delayed joining the fray for at least a couple years. Nissan had hoped it could build a heavy-duty version of the Titan off of the half-ton's platform, but it's clear that the truck's frame won't be able to meet the minimum payload and towing targets that heavy-duty truck buyers demand. Though the full-size half-ton Toyota Tundra (shown wearing its work dungarees) will enter production in less than two months, the automaker's plan for a heavy-duty version has been postponed for undisclosed reasons.
