Welcome to Choppin' Competition #52! Chevrolet came out with the sleek, supercharged Cobalt SS in 2005 and showed the world that it could compete with some of the best compact tuner cars in the world. They upped the ante in 2009 when they added a set of Brembo brakes, sport-tuned suspension, form-fitting race seats, and a turbocharged engine. This car came out of the gate and earned the title of the fastest production FWD car to lap the Nurburgring. However, the Cobalt has been replaced by the Cruze, with nothing really being mentioned of an SS variant. This is where you come in... Your task is to turn the Chevrolet Cruze into a Super Sport compact tuner with looks to…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #24! I've got a feva'...and the only cure...is more Zeta! A mere three hours after Holden debuted their next-generation VE Commodore, Statesman, and Caprice sedans, we're getting set to make them better...for the American market. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to take one of the four Holden VE sedans and Americanize it as a US General Motors product. Remember that the vehicles we're likely to see are a Pontiac, Buick, or Chevrolet, with the most likely models being Monte Carlo, Impala, G8 (Bonneville/Grand Prix replacement), GTO, Invicta (Buick sedan), or Riviera. The bodystyle you create is up to you. Size guidelines rem…

First, let me say that we had a very successful competition I feel, and there are a lot of very good entries. Also, if you entered the competition, you MUST vote, or you will be penalized (points subtracted). Artists should also not vote for themselves; if they do, they will also be penalized. Here is how voting will work: Each person will get two votes. Their first place vote will count as two points, and their second place vote will count as one point. An example of how to vote is below. Let's say you think entry number 1 is the best and entry number 2 is the second best, you would post this: 1 2 Easy enough? Voting will end when I get home from s…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #16! Your task this time is to take any current General Motors product and alter in any fashion you'd like to make it foolish. What's foolish, you ask? Anything. An Avalanche with 10 doors...an offroad Lucerne...the Aztek. Kidding about the last one, for its not a current product. The only rules aside from 800x600 size guidelines are that it must be a 2006 or 2007 model year General Motors vehicle. The winner will recieve the prize of a GM divison keychain! Remember, the crazier the better! Good luck! Deadline is Friday, March 31st @ 11:59PM.

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #31! The 2006 SEMA show has come and gone. We were impressed with some of what was offered and, well, less-than-enthused about others. Here's your chance to set the record straight. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to either redesign a GM vehicle showcased at SEMA or give a non-showcased GM vehicle the SEMA treatment. For example, if you don't like how the Lucernes looked, make one you do like. Also, if you wished to have seen a LaCrosse at SEMA, customize one the way you'd like to see it. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #28! Saturn's new midsize Aura is certainly the talk of the town. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #46! GM and Cadillac debuted the Provoq Concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year and received some pretty good feedback on it. Though they called it 'Provoq,' We all know that this is the prequel to Cadillac's upcoming vehicle, the BRX, which is guaranteed to be at least slightly different than the concept. Should you take on this task, your duty is to modify the Provoq concept into anything you can imagine. Do you want to show us a more production-ready vehicle? How about chopping that roof off? Maybe you'll even drop it and put it on 22s for a more dramatic effect. Whichever you choose to do, it's…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #19! We have all seen Pontiac's new G5 coupe, a Canadian market import that itself is a lightly-rebodied two-door Chevrolet Cobalt. Needless to say, many of us are disappointed at the lack of effort it seems went into this car that - aside from some minor cosmetic enhancements - doesn't appear to add any excitement to the performance division. Here's your chance to change that. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to create an appropriate Pontiac G5. Remember, this is a compact, entry-level non-sedan so keep in mind size and pricing constraints. Also, keep in mind the bodystyle will be sleek and coupelike. That is the only rule…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #36! Time for a little bit of topical fun. You've been under a rock if you haven't heard all the latest rumors surrounding the potential buyout of the Chrysler Group from DaimlerChrysler and all the consequences such an action would entail. If this hypothetically occured, its less than likely current or future Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep vehicles would simply be rebaged under an appropriate General Motors brand. But what if it did...? Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to modify any existing Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep production or concept vehicle as a General Motors product. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #41! Ford was first in 1957 with a solid-bodied hybrid of a car and pickup truck, but GM wasn't far behind. Two years after the Ranchero's introduction, Chevrolet responded with the Impala-based El Camino and not only did it outlive its Ford competitor, but its name has become iconic among enthusiasts of all stripes. The beloved 'Elky' ended production in 1987, but lives on today overseas as the Ute, still rear-wheel drive and based on a fullsize car platform. With word of a US market VE-based Ute possibly greenlit, the El Camino could live again. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to design a modern day El Camino or GMC Ca…

I decided we could do a pick-you-own-picture Choppin' Comp this time, so I thought this was a good idea... Your task is to create a vehicle that you feel would fill a gap in GM's lineup. There aren't a whole lot of gap's in GM's lineup because it is so vast, but if you think creatively I'm sure you'll be able to come up with something. Or, if you feel that GM has a particularly weak spot in their lineup, that would work as well. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #33! Well, its out already and a little on the early side I might add, but we now have a full look of what the new Chevy Malibu looks like. There was a lot of hype surrounding this debut and much of it has been met or exceeded, but some are left wishing certain aspects could've ended up looking better. Now, you have a chance to make it so. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to modify the 2008 Chevy Malibu in any way you see fit. Some possibilities include different trim levels or packages (SS), bodystyles (coupe, convertible, MAXX), simple modifications to the existing design (restyled front, sides, or rear), or modifying i…

Artists who do not vote or vote for themsleves will be assessed a 4 point penalty. Choppers we're given a choice of two pictures to chop this time, so you should vote on creativity and overall execution. I think many people will like the front view better, but if you think a Chopper did an excellent job on the rear view, you should probably vote for that chop. You are allowed two votes this time, as we do not have nearly as many entries as last time. Voting will end when I get home from school on Wedensday. Here are the…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #17! There's no questioning the great excitement surrounding the upcoming 2009 Impala and exactly what form it will take. Comments by GM's Chief Designer Ed Wellburn have lead many to speculate that rather than evolutionary, it will definitely be influenced by historic Impala models, specifically the 1967 model year. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to 'Chop any photo you wish into what your ideal 2009 Impala will look like. Select any image you desire for your 'chop. The only rules aside from 800x600 size guidelines are that it must have some element of historic styling. Exactly what and how much is entirely at your discret…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #30! The lil' Vibe, star of GM's fuel efficient fleet and product of a long-standing partnership with Toyota, is about to lay its burden down, at least in current form. Whether or not the Vibe continues into another generation is questionable right now, but you can change that. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to design the next-generation Pontiac Vibe. Remember that the current Vibe succeeded by being a compact/small hatchback, so use that versatility as a guide for your conceptualization. You may use any vehicle image as your base. Some sources... Welcome to Choppin' Competition #26! Those who use cars and truck seriously need serious cars and trucks, and for decades, General Motors has stepped up to the plate. For durability, reliability, strength, and value, GM has long been the choice of professionals. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to turn a current or near-future GM product into a service vehicle. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #42! The Aero-X concept shown above was meant to preview a new direction for GM's Sweedish division, a vision that included dynamic, bespoke styling that enhanced SAABs appeal while remaning distinctly original. Elements of the Aero-X manifested itself in the recently-revealed 2008 9-3 line, including the more aggressive front fascia and ice-block taillamps. And while niche players have traditionally survived on one model alone, today's market demands diversification. The 9-3 reamins fairly popular, but the 9-5 and 9-7X were tepid performers at best. Welcome to Choppin' Competition #44! The sadness about the news that the Chevrolet Trailblazer is slated to be slowly phased out over the next few years begins with the fact that its predecessor, the Blazer, helped birth the midsize SUV market and compounded by the fact that the GMT-360 platform it rides on and Atlas I6 powertrain its powered by are still both very good. Blame substand interior materials and features, aged exterior design, and a seeming lack of interest by GM for this tragedy. But what if it were guaranteed a reprieve from the gallows if you could make a convincing styling argument for it? Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to give any GM…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #43! Recently unveiled to great fanfare - and some doubt - Chevrolet's Volt is not merely another concept car. Its been made abundantly clear by everyone at General Motors that the most fanciful aspect of the automobile we saw at Detroit was the exterior sheetmetal. The guts of the Volt - its advanced E-Flex propulsion system - will be as real as can be. As opposed to coming-soon plug-in hybrids, GM considers the Volt a full electric car with range assist via a small gasoline engine. Already, GM has introduced fuel cell-powered versions around the world and has been making steps to bring a Volt to the public within a few short years. …

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #37! Well, its here - the long-awaited rear-wheel drive Pontiac concept that is uncannily similar to what we'll be given to purchase in the coming year. Many have fallen head over heals for the clean, crisp, and modern lines of the G8 while other wish it had more character, more charm, and more Pontiac styling. Wherever your opinion falls, we can all agree we're in store for a real high-quality performance sedan that just may recapture some much-needed audience for Pontiac. For those in the latter camp, however, here's your chance. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to modify the existing Pontiac G8 show car in any way you…

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #40! C&G Choppin' Competition hits the big 4-0 and thanks to everyone who has brought their talent onto the site to make it as great as it is! Recently, we've seen what a a graphics design student and GM can do with the rolling billboard that is the HHR panel. Now, we want to see what you can do! Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to customize your own HHR Panel. This can be anything you like - a simple graphics wrap to a full-out rolling J.C. Whitney showcase, its up to you. Remember to have fun with this, too. Silly and satirical entries are very much accepted, so let your creativity out to play. This is your blank …

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #49! Everyday we hear something new and disappointing from GM. It's now been stated that Saturn is getting cut while Pontiac is just a "niche brand" that will most likely cease to exist by 2012. What this means is no more Kappa twins, no more Kappa II, and absolutely no chance of small RWD Pontiacs. Well guess what... today is your day to make that little RWD car a Chevrolet! The Alpha platform will be the base to the upcoming small Cadillac. However, this car should share its chassis with another car to keep cost down, and what better brand than Chevy to host it? This car must be small with RWD proportions and may be a coupe, sedan, …

Welcome to Choppin' Competition #48! GM and Saab debuted a refreshed 9-3 for 2008, but we think it can get better! It is a very sexy design all around, but there is still room for it to be more innovative and classy by its already impressive design. Should you take on this task, your duty is to modify the 2008 Saab 9-3 into anything you can imagine. Want to drop and mod it to be a street racer? How about evolving it into the next generation? Or maybe you even want to stretch it into a limousine and show Cadillac that the DTS isn’t good enough. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it shows what you picture in your head because I’m sure the end result will be brilli…
