The United Auto Workers on Tuesday filed a scathing objection to Delphi Corp.'s proposal in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to reward its executive team with bonuses and stock potentially worth more than $500 million. In its filing, the UAW called Delphi's executive compensation program "grossly excessive" and said it would impede the union from reaching agreement with the bankrupt auto supplier on wage and job cuts for hourly workers. A self-driving shuttle service got off to an auspicious start yesterday in Las Vegas when it was involved in an accident with a delivery truck. According to NBC affiliate KSNV, the accident took place during the shuttle's first hour of service when a delivery truck back into the shuttle. According to an AAA representative on Twitter, the driver was cited by Las Vegas Metro Police. "The autonomous shuttle was testing today when it was grazed by a delivery truck downtown. Europe is starting to develop a case of pickup truck fever. According to data from JATO Dynamics, 80,300 trucks were sold in Europe in the first half of this year. This pales in comparison to the 1.1 million full-size and 216,194 midsize trucks sold in the U.S. in the same timeframe. But sales in Europe are climbing. LMC Automotive says sales of trucks in Europe are up 19 percent and they predict sales will crest 200,000 next year. Why this steady rise in pickups? But then Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, leaving a path of destruction and extensive flooding. Sales for the month would drop 1.9 percent to 1.48 million vehicles when compared to the same month a year ago. NHTSA's preliminary numbers show an estimated 32,310 people died in traffic accidents last year, a 1.7% drop from 2010 where 32,885 people died. Deaths in traffic accidents has been decreasing by 26% since 2005. New England and the Great Lakes region saw the biggest decrease in car accident deaths in 2011, with the former down 7.2% and the latter down 3.3%. The state also has plans to outlaw the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles in the state by 2035. Now Sacramento County has taken an extra step. Crash Testing Stickers Mandatory by 2007 Stickers displaying crash ratings must be on vehicles in U.S. showrooms next year, a requirement that could prompt voluntary changes by automakers if they fail to meet consumer expectations, government officials and safety advocates said on Thursday. If the Trump administration goes forward with placing a 25 percent tariff on new cars, it could cost automakers between one to two million sales. Analysis done by researcher LMC Automotive said if automakers pass on the full 25 percent tariff to customers, it could cut sales by about two million - about 10 percent of annual U.S. sales. If automakers absorb some some of tariff, the sales drop would reduce to just a million. Power and Associates 2005 Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) StudySM released today. Jaguar, which tied with Lexus for the highest ranking in 2004, receives an overall SSI index score of 889 (on a 1,000-point scale). Jaguar performs particularly well in the salesperson and finance process factors. Lexus (888) follows Jaguar in the rankings, while Buick and Porsche tie to rank third overall at 878. Detroit News wire services / TOLEDO -- Auto parts maker Dana Corp. on Tuesday reported a third-quarter loss of nearly $1.3 billion as a slumping automobile industry forced it to realign its business, triggering massive charges during the period. Its shares tumbled more than 20 percent.
