September 14, 2005 Porsche to build hybrid Cayenne SUV Atlanta, Georgia – At a press conference at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche announced its decision to build a hybrid version of the Cayenne SUV. It also unveiled its newest sports car, the 2006 Cayman S. The hybrid Cayenne, which will be launched by the end of the decade, will cut fuel consumption by approximately 15 per cent over the conventional model. It will use a drive system being developed together with Volkswagen Group, and will be a full hybrid, meaning that its gasoline engine and electric motor can operate independently or in a joint process. The Cayman S, which will be introduced into the North American market in January 2006, is positioned between the 911 Carrera and the Boxster S, and will carry a 295 hp engine (Canadian Driver)
