Spied: Ford Fusion Hybrid

Recommended Posts

But the Fusion hybrid's working off of a 2.3L engine that is 23/31 mpg,

while the Camry hybrid's is based off of a 2.4L, 24/33 mpg engine.

Ford engineers have an uphill battle, using a powetrain that uses more fuel despite the Fusion being 200 lbs lighter.

Comparing the Ford Edge 4086 lb, 18/25 mpg

and the Saturn Outlook's 4750 lb, 18/26 mpg shows how much Ford lags in fuel economy engineering.

That means nothing... the hybrid versions of the Camry and Fusion each have modifications to their I4 engines. Both the Escape Hybrid and Camry Hybrid use Atkinson-cycle engines, which consume less fuel (and produce less power) than their conventional counterparts.
