Toyota Cautious While Plotting North American Growth

The Wall Street Journal today said the Toyota City, Japan- based company may reveal as early as this month plans for a 200,000-unit assembly plant in the U.S. Southeast that would open by 2009. The paper cited unidentified people familiar with the situation.

``The U.S. market is generally forecast to be down this year, at between 16.1 million units and 16.4 million units, with most of the losses coming from GM and Ford,'' said Scharf, whose Santa Cruz, California-based Scharf Investments includes 156,000 Toyota American depositary receipts in a $610 million portfolio
