What If...?

What if Sylvester Stallone's metally-unstable Vietnam vet character was not named John Rambo, but instead Frankie Sparkles?

Col. Trautman: God didn't make Frankie Sparkles, I made him!

Col. Trautman: You've done enough damage. This mission is over, Frankie Sparkles. Do you understand me? This mission is over!!

I LOVE IT!! i think every tough guy should be named Frankie Sparkles - if you can be tough with a name like that, well, that would be the real tough test! Picture it, Tony Montana as Frankie Sparkles. Don Corleone as Frankie Sparkles. James Bond, any Bond, as Frankie Sparkles. but then again, I semi agree with satty, that brian is smoking crack. pass me the vodka, satty darling, wouldja?? LOL

My daddy left home when I was three And he didn't leave much to Ma and me Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze. Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid But the meanest thing that he ever did Was before he left, he went and named me 'Sue.' Well, he must o' thought that is was quite a joke And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk, It seems I had to fight my whole life through. Some gal would giggle and I'd get red And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head, I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named 'Sue.' Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean, My fist got hard and my wits got keen, I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame. But I made me a vow to the moon and stars That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars And kill that man that give me that awful name. Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July And I just hit town and my throat was dry, I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew. At an old saloon on a street of mud, There at a table, dealing stud, Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me 'Sue.' Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad >From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had, And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye. He was big and bent and gray and old, And I looked at him and my blood ran cold And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' how do you do! Now you gonna die!" Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes And he went down but, to my surprise, He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear. But I busted a chair right across his teeth And we crashed through the wall and into the street Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer. I tell ya, I've fought tougher men But I really can't remember when, He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile. I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss, He went for his gun and I pulled mine first, He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile. And he said: "Son, this world is rough And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough And I know I wouldn't be there to help ya along. So I give ya that name and I said good-bye I knew you'd have to get tough or die And it's that name that helped to make you strong." He said: 'Now you just fought one hell of a fight And I know you hate me, and you got the right To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do. But ya ought to thank me, before I die, For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you 'Sue'.' I got all choked up and I threw down my gun And I called him my pa, and he called me his son, And I come away with a different point of view. And I think about him, now and then, Every time I try and every time I win, And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him Bill or George! Anything but sue! I still hate that name! Shel Silverstein kicks ass.

Then maybe your porn comment could have been a PM as well...

It's slander to say I post porn. It makes it sound like I postd some frontal nudity pic or a girl getting DP. <_<

68, there isn't anything slanderous about it. You DO post porn. REGULARLY. You don't seem to realize that people access this site at work and at home. Some people have their computers in family rooms. They might not want their children seeing images that they unknowingly access. What if they're at work and the boss is walking by as they inadvertantly click a Camaro pic and porn comes up? Do you ever think about anyone other than yourself? Jeez...

Thanks for the comic relief Satty. :)

I'm done with this argument. If porn is a girl in a traditional Bikini wiht a gasoline canister than we've got different views on the definition of the word. Or is THIS what you guys are talking about? Is this porn according to the moderators?

This is a short list of pictures that I've posted in the last few months that contained sexy shots of women.

We've already had discussions about the porn link embedded in your signature. If you'd like to discuss it further...

I didn't warn you specifically for pictures. It was about a link embedded in the picture of one of your sigs that led to a very pornographic site. I really don't have anymore to say to that as you admitted such a link could've existed in your sig.

Well, Mr. Fly, thanks for clarifying for me what the problem was. As a member (and nothing more), I appreciate your tone of voice in this matter. Now I understand.

Member #1003, I don't see anything offensive in the pictures posted above except maybe for the buttfloss pic, and that's subjective. Won't you please settle yourself?

I'll settle myself when he stops posting things that'll get me in trouble in the library! All those pix came up out of nowhere and I came this close to having a librarian see them. So what now????

ETA:

Razor, there is a big difference between text and large pictures that could be seen by anyone within a 10 foot radius. And I never mentioned morality anywhere??? Edited by Croc

I defend Sixty8's right to post pictures of scantily clad girls with cars in The Lounge and hope he continues to use common sense in his postings here.

I understand Fly's alarm at the porn link even though I think it's kind of obscure. Could this link somehow be tied to Cheers&Gears in a search? If so, I completely understand Fly's position, but I believe Sixty8 when he says it was inadvertent. I hope it's been fixed.

I don't understand why Croc is coming across as an authority figure in this whole thing unless it is some personal hatred for Sixty8, which was hinted at in the "Annoying Emails" thread.

The majority of people probably don't click links in some member's sig. I know very, very few ever clicked any in mine. The one I used to have a view counter on it... it got like 10 views over a few months. Only when I advertised it did it ever get more views. Croc... What's your problem? Unless there's nudity, those are fine. All of them. I mean... If a woman can be show on TV with a semi-see through shirt, a barely there bikini, etc.... there's no reason those can't be on the internet. And besides... just be glad I or somebody else don't start posting pics like that of the opposite sex... :D

No hatred, just annoyance that he won't follow basic common courtesy online. Is it really that hard to post these as links with a "Not work safe" tag by them? No. Most people on most message boards do this to be courteous to other members so that they don't get in trouble at work, in the library, or even in the family room if there are young children around. The pix aren't bad in and of themselves, but it just isn't courteous to post them so they pop up with no warning.

BV, post to your hearts content, but link them instead of posting them like that, or better yet, start a topic that has "Not work safe" in the heading. I really don't see why this is so hard to understand because this is pretty common practice on message boards across the internet.

To clarify once and for all, the link was embedded in a signature posted recently by Sixty8.

I recieved a complaint about it from two members, one who posts occasionaly, and one that as of yet is a browser, who saw the hyperlink on the picture and clicked on it thinking it enlarged the pic, went to a site, or whatever. Instead, it went to - again - a pornographic site with a very graphic frontpage. Therefore, I removed the link from his signature as soon as I read the reported PMs. One was through the warning system, the other through regular board PM directly to me.

Because of the nature of the link, I made the assumption Sixty8 had linked to it purposely as yet another gag. I sent him a PM and warned him about it. He acknowledged it.

I'll just come out and say it because its true - on the older boards, Sixty8 went through a period where he did actively post links and pictures that ranged from risque to downright unacceptable or pornographic. He was warned many times about this conduct and finally stopped.

C&G is a safe-for-work site, meaning that posting large pornographic pictures, having porn motiffs in one's signature, etc. are not allowed. You may access this site from home, but many do from work and I'm loathe to have someone innocuously check it information about a new car and BAM! porn. The internet is about 75% porn so there are plenty of outlets for it besides here.

Its about common sense that most people seem to exhibit.

Keep in mind that neither I nor others simply delete things because we don't like them (unless they are clearly unacceptable as I spelled out above). However, if someone DOES complain legitimately through the warning/PM system, I will err on the side of caution and remove it if it can be legitimately considered offensive.

That's about all I have to say about that...

Just so we're clear the "signature link to porn" thing WAS an accident... I change my sig. more often than my underwear (most can testify to that I think) I never even saw it to be honest. At around the same time I did have a prblem with my Avatar and Sig however... my sig. pic will sometimes just up and [x] out on me sometimes. It's not like the link just up and walks away so perhaps it's a spyware thing, I donno. If I was borwsing the net at work or in a public library I'd be natrually cautious as to what I view, regardless of the forum/site. My number one concern would be the Boss seing me F*&%ing off online and not what specifically I was looking at. I WILL make an effort to be more curtious but my notion of innapropriate is right up there wiht BV. Razor: you crack me up! :P Edited by Sixty8panther
