These photo's show why Ford is going to have to go down under for the RWD sedan they are missing and Europe for the FWD they really need.

If Ford things changing the engine and grill then slapping an old name is going to bring back sales they are in a a lot more trouble than I though.

The clock is ticking on Ford and if they don't get some relivent models soon to replace this car and the Focus they are in for a lot of trouble. They may not be bad cars but they are not good enough vs the other companies.

Ford is going to be a much different company by 2010 as they will belong to someone else or broke with their loans due.

They're both bad. The front on the old model looks goofy and Korean, the front on the new model looks 90's and extremely bland.

seeing these two next to each other like that makes me really appreciate the styling changes....

The 500 looks classy, IMO. Boring, but classy. The Taurus just looks ugly, IMO.

Um...no.

lol! :pokeowned:

Part of the reason ford is in the crapper is because they totally gave up on performance cars. Part of what made Ford ascend in the mid 80's through the 90's was models like the SVT's, SHO's, Supercoupes, Turbocoupes. Nowadays, Ford has ZERO mojo.

The interceptor is a great concept car and they should build it as the next Crown Vic replacement.

That should not preclude Ford from making perfomance models of the now taurus. the 500 at one time was supposed to get an AWD yamaha v8 variant, but like all of Ford's other Bold Moves (cough), it got nixed because Ford needs to pay healthcare and pensions more than they can afford to tool up and develop product.

I drive a 500 and would absolutely love a new SHO version. I would have a hard time picking between an SVT badge and a SHO badge.

I would enjoy driving a true 3 pedal manual version of a 500, but my guess is said type of car would not sell. So maybe the best thing is for Ford to give it a 6 speed auto with manumatic and paddle shifters, or get a DSG type tranny for the car. Then, use the Yamaha v8 or use one of the upcoming v6's...like the twin force 3.7 direct inject version with turbo or something. Then trim out the rest of the car to be a budget S8 killer. An S8 at under 40g. Try to market it as a sophisticated AWD competitor, not a full blown RWD smoky burnout machine sort of deal like the interceptor would be.

Then, to round out the product, make a Fusion SVT with true manual 6 speed and a high power v6. Leave it FWD. Then the Fusion is the true spiritual successor to the original SHO and the Contour SVT. The new taurus SHO or SVT would be more of a grand GT sort of car.

Ford is not desired now because there is no buzz for their products from enthusiasts and magazines partly.

the new taurus front clip is a huge improvement over the 500's. I didn't really think about it until i saw that pic of the two side by side. The interior is the big white elephant they need to fix first.

I don't want to see a Taurus SHO. That's absurd. I rather see like a Fusion GT or something like that.

Now let me see ....... the Camry looks goofy and Korean and bland is the synonym for Honda. I guess by those standards, that Ford has done a good thing.

In real life, one of our (wife and I) best friends bought a 500 last year, he traded in his Mercury Grand Marquee. He loves the room (6 grand kids) and it's perfect for his 70 mile round trip to and from work.

In my opinion, the 500/Taurus should have had the 260 HP engine from the start, just like my CTS should have had the 255 HP engine from the start. But Ford is trying, so even though I'm a GM fan, I'm willing to give them a chance.

Me, too. It new Taurus isn't great but it is a definite improvement over the 500.

Um...no

You're comparing Chevy's bottom-of-the-line sedan in the 90's to Ford's new top-of-the-line sedan. The Impala is a much more accurate comparison.

As for the Taurus, well, I don't care if it looks good compared to the 500, that's not saying much. It looks awful in person.

Apples to Apples man. Compare the top Chevy to the top Ford.

You posted a pic of a Cavalier and a Malibu.

Ford at the time was still selling the Escort and Contour or Tempo..... is there *anything* from the mid-90s from Ford that was attractive? At least in the mid-90s Chevy had the Impala, Monte Carlo, and Camaro with decent selections from Pontiac, Olds, or Buick if the chevy wasn't to your tastes. Over at Ford there was the Tempo... or Tempo <not really>Deluxe, the Thunderbird and Thunderbird Brougham.... you get the idea.

Dragon said it made him appreciate GM's styling of the 90's, Suggesting that he wasn't specifying 1 car but the styling in general. The Malibu isn't that far off from the Taurus anyway. The Cavalier was just another example of GM's "styling". The Impala looks too much like the Caprice IMO, which itself looks like a big fat pig....oh and how I hate the stupid wheel covers those things had.

Well, in that case...
