This has to be an April Fools joke...if it isn't, god help Ford Motor Company.

It even looks like a piece of $hit Escort.

First they resurected the Taurus name, Now escort... I think in the

nest few years we'll see a lot of classic Ford names come back.

You know like Granada, Fairmont, Pinto, Maverick, maybe they'll

even do a White Expedition up as the O.J. Bronco Special. The

truck will be custom tailored with your spouses' blood spatter in

the rear and a set of leather gloves that are too small.

I've done some more checking around the 'net, I think it is a joke but that Focaljet comment still leaves me wondering. Focus is so much better than Escort...I can see Taurus, I can maybe see Flex...but Escort?? That name needs to stay in the 90s.

Sounds like a joke, but based on recent events, who knows. :stupid:

On a serious note, I really wish they would rename the E-Series back to Econoline. ^_^

We need to start flooding GM with letters about dead car names.

I'm going to start with Oldsmobile.

I think Aurora would be the perfect name for a Saturn Zeta.... Saturn would then have Astra, Aura, Aurora.

Joke or not, this is still a reminder of why Ford is failing: telling the customer what they want instead of building what they want.

And Sixty-8 has a point ... although the design isn't horrible, it actually does sort of look like a '93 Escort. I think it's time we had a heritage chop, no?

Dead on. And seeing it in person, this car in particular really is terrible, both for overall design elements, the interior, wheel choices, etc. Not that the current Focus was ever a beauty, but it always looked like a really trim and modern Euro small car, and did well because of that--in addition to the driving dynamics. Now it's being dumbed down and majorly uglied up, so who knows what's going to happen.

part of the reason the focus was so cool is because it WASN'T an Escort.

RIP Focus. You were good and bad, but in spite of it, you were always fun.

Unfortunately, Escort = yucky crap. Focus = euro flavored / something different.

Ford is really struggling. I like Mullaly, but Fields needs to go.

I saw the '08 Focus (4dr in an ugly orange) at the auto show this weekend..pretty dissapointing. And even dumber, they are getting rid of the wagon and the hatchbacks, which were the good body styles..

but sold only 30% of total volume ( all 3 styles) and were much more expensive to redesign, since the whole ass of a wagon or a hatch is structural - while the trunk on a sedan is not.

Finally, Honda etc can manage 25-40% of their sales volume with Coupe (a SINGLE body style) - so Ford went and tried it .. we shall see how it sells.

It had a solid financial footing given that the car was jut being redesigned, not built up all new from the ground ... but yes, there are a lot of people unhappy with that move, and unless the Coupe sets the sales charts on fire, hatches and wagons will be back in 2010.

It's too bad..the hatches were the only bodystyles I'd consider in a small car like that (a regular trunk is useless, while a hatch is very practical in a small car)....which is why I find the Saturn Astra way more appealing than the Cobalt.
