FORD'S BOLD THROWBACK TO THE NINETIES CONTINUES WITH THREE NEW ESCORT HERITAGE EDITION MODELS

  • Heritage Edition packages feature over 8 new design changes, resulting in three distinct cars that boldly say "value, culture, heritage, and pride."
  • New (?) 1.9L I-4 produces a muscular 88 horsepower and powerful 108 lb.-ft. of torque in base coupe and sedan models, and a new (?) 1.8L I-4 producing a massive 127 horsepower and 114 lb.-ft. of torque is standard in the GT coupe.
  • Classic Ford "peek-a-boo" emblem is now a standard feature of the Heritage Edition package on base models, sport grille standard on GT coupe.
  • Escort Heritage Edition models will reach your friendly, local Ford showroom in winter 2007.

NEW YORK, Apr. 2, 2007 - Ford Motor Company today announced it is bringing back the well-known Ford Escort name and introducing three new Escort models in it's Heritage Edition range for aging Ford fans and buyers to go on sale winter 2007, directly after the Ford Taurus Heritage Edition sedan and wagon. This makes the second model line to be available in the Heritage Edition series of vehicles for Ford.

“Escort has been an icon for cheap, insulting transportation for more than two decades, and we feel it's time to return this powerful name back to the market,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s President of The Americas, at the New York Auto Show. “As with the Taurus, we have found consumer awareness of the Escort name is significantly larger than the Focus that it’s replacing, and that is good enough for us to start re-writing the rules altogether once again.”

Fields continues, “By giving these vehicles the stodgy, jellybean looks of the 90's that consumers recognize, we are, at the same time, making significant upgrades to our already great products.

The 2008-model Escort Heritage Edition base coupe will go on sale winter 2007, following up the Taurus Heritage Edition sedan, which then will be followed by the Heritage Edition of the base Escort sedan and the Heritage Edition GT coupe. The Heritage Edition package is available as an optional upgrade to the earth shattering ALL NEW Ford Escort. The new Heritage Edition features a fully flush grille guard with peek-a-boo Ford emblem on base coupe and sedan models, with a peek-a-boo emblem sport grille on the GT, and more standard safety features to make the car have that familiar sense of mellow nostalgia.

No no, YJ, you got it wrong. That's not what the coupe looks like.

You forgot the bigass wing, the distinctive wheels and the "sport" grille.

Now this, is the base sedan.

Lets see how many 'diggs' we get, and if we get another article in Autoweek. :P

Will Microsoft's optional 'Sync' be powered by a new version of MSDOS?

13 sec, I think... but when gas gets to $4 a gallon I'll probably miss it...but I don't miss the vinyl seats, AM radio, manual windows, etc.. :)

Let's see and EXP version!

Even better, make it a turbo....

a letter to Car and Driver on the EXP turbo road test said: "You can stick a candle in a cow pie, but that doesn't make it a birthday cake!" LOL
