I'm surprised the Uplander soldiers on. As was mentioned in the GMC truck thread, it's highly disappointing that there isn't more widespread use of the 6-speed automatic on the GMT900 trucks.

Sad to see the Colorado ZQ8 go away. I've always liked the looks of it, and I would have gotten one had it come with a better engine.

Perhaps 2008 is a short model year for GM trucks. It would be legal to code them 2009s after 1/1/08. GMT355s need that MCE sooner rather than later, and GMT900 pickups need that 6 speed auto to put more distance between them and the competition. I too am sad to see the ZQ8 suspension package go away in the smaller trucks... but it makes me hopeful for something even better to replace it.

Y'know, for you girls who hate all things Uplander, ya gotta get out and drive one. I scoot around in our shuttle bus from time to time, and I gotta hand it to GM: they've done quite a bit with the tired old thing. Truly, the 3.9 in it turns it into a bit of a rocket - so much so that the first time I drove it I kinda scared myself, having given it the guns like I would when it was the 3.4! The Achilles heal of the van is the lack of leg room. When GM went from the Venture to Uplander they made the seats so thick that many inches of leg room evaporated - and they need to bring back the 8 passenger version. We can't keep used 8 passenger Ventures in stock!

There is no denying that the Uplander is a hoary old beast, but for $10,000 less than a Sienna/Odyssey, they are the deal of the century.

Sigh. GM took away the best looking and 2nd best looking Colorados. The two that would have been on the top of my list if I were buying.

Maybe they will bring back the Xtreme style appearance w/ a V8 model.

GM eff-ed up the Colorado Extreme from DAY ONE! It received LITTLE to NO exposure, I saw none of them on lots, the packages offered were ridiculous and unattractive and they were launched TOO late...

It's sad that GM screwed up ONE of the FEW offerings they had in which young people weren't ashamed to be seen.

I agree about not marketing them or even making it easy to find out info about them. But despite that I saw a TON of them! Literally 4-5 around where I lived in KY and around 4-5 of them where I live now in MO. Also the ZQ8s were MUCH more common.

What a typical lame 2008 lineup from the General. So we get XM Satelite radio as std which few people I know continue to subscribe to after the first 3 months is up, the same old 1996 era 3400 in the Equinox for the 4th year in a row, no 6 speed in the regular Silverados, less sporty packages to choose from(Xtreme) and more model lineup confusion that would have Einstein bewildered.

Well now I am confused about the 6 speed in the trucks....I spoke with my GM Canada dealer rep yesterday and asked him if he had heard that the 6 speeds are not available in the 2008 trucks. Today he checked with the entire Southern Alberta GM Canada office, and everyone, including the Zone Manager, was under the impression that the 6 speeds are still going to be in all of the 2008 trucks. Production doesn't begin until June 20th, and GM often makes changes after orders have been entered in the system. Furthermore, the GM Canada order guide for the trucks is out Thursday and they are much more detailed, it will say if the 6 speeds are late availablity or interim. I will post the GM Canada changes to the trucks as soon as I get them.

Well, I'm not going to get my hopes up again. I'll believe it when I see it.

Then again they didn't say which trucks. They are going to in the HD trucks, but not the 1/2 tons and SUVs.

  • 1 month later...

I wondered the same reason. It was an advertising advantage.

What? OK then. I guess this rules out the 2008 GMC Sierra that I was hoping to buy at the end of this year. I really don't want to wait until the 2009 model year. <_<

I wonder how Toyota is doing whith the 'Engine' issues that they are/were having on the '07 Tundra? Will it be taken care of it for the 2008 model year at the end of this year? :scratchchin:

Too bad for GM. I really like the new GMC Sierra, but I do want the 6-spd Auto in it. :hissyfit:

Although many go to fleets (it is one of the few vans available in a cargo version), the Uplander is still one of the best-selling mid-vans available.

I haven't checked every truck yet, but for the cars there are significant changes to almost every model not listed in the what's new or deleted sections. GM has retuned most engines, apparently for improved fuel economy under the new 2008 EPA regulations, with slightly less horsepower (usually by limiting rpm), in some instances increasing low-end torque to compensate. Some engines have also quietly been replaced by equivalent FlexFuel versions with a new RPO. Although many engines (such as the GEN IV V8s in the Express/Savana) do not yet have final (or even consistent) hp figures, you can find certified output graphs for quite a few new engines (as per usual with higher than estimated figures) and many of the new, lower-output variants being introduced in the 2008 MY.

I found what you were talking about, less hp. That's something that they aren't going to brag about, that's for sure. Even though they aren't, from what I've seen, that big of a difference. Some will notice the change and ask questions.
