Wow... That was some video. It really captured the innovation that was Oldsmobile.

However, they missed a few things:

First Speedometer

First Monoblock V8

First Turbocharged Passenger Car

First H.U.D.

First Computerized Engine Management System.

Nope... First car with a Monoblock V8 was the 1929 Oldsmobile Viking.

Wow ... awesome video :).

Kinda makes you wonder how GM was able to make the decision to ax it :(.

That is why I will always continue to say they never should have dropped Oldsmobile. People are so quick to say it was the right decision. It was not. It cost too much money to get rid of it and as you see they were innovators too. GM's loss is someone else gain. This is one of the main reasons I do not blindly follow GM.

Some say it cost GM 5 to 10 times as much to pay off the UAW last year as it cost to get rid of Oldsmobile.

I just realized they missed the First Power Sliding Door as well...

Sigh... I still maintain that Olds should have been spared and Saturn axed, as Olds had more potential and history, and could have just as easily recieved what Saturn is getting now. (Hybrids, Convertibles, Lambdas).

Truth. I'd be jumping up and down in glee over the Saturn lineup today...if it bore the Oldsmobile name. Sure they're good looking, competent cars, but something inside my head goes "Yeah, but its still Saturn".

Yeah, I hear you. I think that a large part of the general public associate Saturn with nerdy little dent resistant, rust resistant compacts. It doesn't matter what the car is like, identity is everything. (I like the new Saturn ads though!)

This video, as well as the Drive Through History and Aurora videos in the other post, were part of the 2003 model year DVD that Oldsmobile mailed to recent customers.
