Cylinder Count

Recommended Posts

Peter Egan wrote an article in Road & Track

a few years back about this topic.

What is YOUR current cylinder count?

A few weeks ago my cylinder count was:

1984 Dastun Maxima "Zwei" (w/sunroof): 6

1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6

1959 Buick LeSabre: 8

1964 Oldsmobile Super 88: 8

1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille: 8

1996 Volvo 850: 5

1997 Cadillac STS parts car: 8

TOTAL: 49

The Volvo, Super 88, Maxima "Zwei" & Coupe

deVille are now gone, BUT I have acquired

two more cars... The Roadmaster Estate & a

very solid 1976 LeSabre 4-door Hardtop with

455 power.

So now my fleet is as follows:

1984 Dastun Maxima parts car: 6

1959 Buick LeSabre: 8

1976 Buick LeSabre: 8

1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate: 8

1997 Cadillac STS parts car: 8

Curret total: 38

So as much as I am getting yelled at for

having too many cars in the driveway I've

actaully sold more cars than I've bought...

and my cylinder count is WAY down.

Now keep in mind this is NOT counting Marcia's

Q45 [8] XP715's Lincoln Limousine [8] and the

roommates's cars... Volvo 240 [4], Chrysler PT

Cruiser [4] & Julies' Taurus [6]

So technically all the car's in the driveway

total 68 cylinders.

Wait a sec... are we counting lawn mowers, &

other such small internal combustion motors?

I don't have any cylinders to call my own, so I'll just go by the household number:

Jaguar: 8

Venture: 6

Sonoma: 6

Datsun 620: 4

Johnson boat motor: 4

John Deere: 2

ServiceStar-Briggs & Stratton: 1

other assorted lawn/garage motored tools: 8

for a total of 39, but the Datsun's for sale/give-away, so I expect that number will drop soon.

It seems like yes, because they too have Cylinders and hence they count. Not trying to pick on you, but you needed to be more specific Sir.

Current count (cars and trucks only);

V8 X 4 = 32

inline 6 X 1 = 6

V6 x 1 = 6

Subtotal = 44

Add my Dad's Hawk (it lives here) = + 8

Add 2 V8 cars currently without engines = + 16 more

Potential automotive total = 68

I'll leave all of the power equiptment out of it.

Perhaps I misjudged, but I didn't think a camper-conversion would be your cup of tea. If you're still interested (or anyone else, for that matter...), let me know, I'll give more details.

Meh...not as big as I'd like...

The '48 will get a SBC when the time comes to actually putting it back together. The 528 will soon get traded in for something else, most likely with at least 8 cylinders.

Man, I love V8's...Nothing like 'em...

Despite the doomsday thread I think it looks like

most of us here either have a V-8 or three or

plan on buying one in the future... I myself have

six in my driveway, four of them mine, one XP's

and one belonging to the ex. I think the new

broad will probably end up with a V8 car too if I

have anything to do with it.
