Japan - Lexus surpasses estimates

Its funny how when Lexus was 'debuted' in Japan, most of the Japanese looked at them quizzically with remarks along the lines of, "Its a nice car, but what's so special that its called a Lexus instead of a Toyota?"

I think that's primarily due to the fact most of the Lexus branded cars have been sold as Toyotas in Japan for some time. Americans collectively raised their eyebrows when the Cavalier debuted as a valiant attempt at an entry-level luxury car!

They must have done something right with the amount of orders they have recieved so far.

The only Toyota that's sold as a Lexus in Japan right now is the SC coupe (Toyota Soarer).

The new GS and IS are both "Lexus" from the ground up, and are globally under the Lexus brand.

Let's see what issue Nissan has marketing cars as Infinitis that Japan has already seen as Nissans (Fuga, V35 Skyline, etc.) I'd like to see Nissan bring back the Prince brand, just to return Skyline and Gloria as Japan knew them for 40 years, to the whole world....

That would be cool. I'm wonder if they'll do anything with the Price brand. Better to revive a brand like that if you can, instead of creating one out of thin area like Toyota did with Scion.
