FUSION SPOTTING

21 posts in this topic

i saw it in the dark, and didn't get inside. But, from checking one out at a dealer up close -front grille/lights is classy and techie looking. Nice job. -rest of the car is bland in nice classy way. CTS meets Euro Mondeo sort of thing, its certainly far more stylish than the pokemon accord and the androgynous Camry. Its light years beyond the Malibu. Its a better effort than the G6 LaCrosse and Impala too. Its the first time we've seen Ford 'successfully' make a break from the aero mode they had been in since the 83 Tbird and all the subsequent Tauruses. This car alone will define ford styling for lots of folks out there. -interior textures, design, and materials on sight are excellent. I wanted to lick the creamy brown dashboard cover the texture looked so nice. Even the cheap looking standard issue Ford radio looked good in there. The steering wheel, dash, and door panels all looked great. This interior is much nicer for a car in this price class than just about any other I can think of right now. Its much nicer than a Camry, nicer than an Accord, and it really completely and totally shames the Malibu. Its better than the Impala. I'd even say its almost as nice as a 9-3. It has a bit of that understated euro flavor to it. -space in both length and girth inside seemed good. It has more visually than its sibling Mazda6. -there is no hint at all in the styling that this car is a kissing cousin of the mazda6. -the car is very much different than the Five Hundred in aura. Where the 500 is big, upright, and stout and open, the Fusion is low, rakish, and seemingly more of a private cabin. not much else to say. based on looks, I'd say the Fusion scores a big hit. It actually looks like a bit of a luxury car for a great price. Its a tailored looking car, that's bland enough to do battle with the camcords but has enough edge to it to look interesting and new, like a budget CTS. Ford OUGHT to send these Hertz, to get folks to change their minds about Ford. now I gotta get my brother in law to get my sister to take a look. Its time for her to dump the hyundai I say and go back to Ford. I am jacked about this car. I would love to see this thing put major dents into the Camcord armor. Based on looks, I think it can. The car is hot. I sat inside one about two months ago and loved its every looks/feel. Ford has a mega hit on their hands if they can get over the import loving mind of America.

the press better give this car the same props as the Chrysler 300, I feel. No wait, it doesn't have a hemi and a bentley grille.

I also forgot to mention it looks better than the Sonata. The Sonata is the visual 2nd coming of the 98 Escort, with a healthy dose of steroids to pump it.

the subaru legacy might be the only cheap midsizer to have a nicer interior, but I'd still prefer the Ford. I've actually liked some LaCrosse interiors, but the Fusion is more contemporary. Edited by regfootball

What about the Passat or Jetta?

Here's one on eBay with the wheelcovers, by the way:

Weird combo... leather and wheelcovers. The interior looks good only with the black leather/white stitching and piano wood, I think.

the new Passat does have a nice interior. although i'm not so sure its a middle class car anymore. I didn't care for the new passat's dash layout and door panels.

Those are quite nice... for hubcaps.

It's kind of like saying: She's very attractive... For a fat girl.

Damn, I really like that blackleather/white stiching and piano black trim.

its damn sweet, isn't it. Too bad there wasn't 270 hp under the hood and a six speed manual to back it up.

I see they're finally at the local dealer...I think I'll stop at the one over by the restaurant I'm going to for dinner after I eat.

I sat in a Milan today. Its nice too. Thing is, these cars are traditionally packaged......low seating. The F/M are a bit less spacious than the outgoing Taurus. The 500 in comparison, is a much more accomodating sedan, size wise. I would say the Impala maybe has more space inside but that the LaCrosse and Fusion/Milan are pretty close to about the same interior size wise. Edited by regfootball

Good... I'm tired of these jacked up "command seating" sedans. If I wanted SUV ride and handling I'd buy an SUV.

I suppose sitting high is nice if you are 70 years old and can barely move, but it sucks if you even remotely care about sporty handling and feel.

Thank you, I love you, etc.

500/Montego aren't even that bad. Try driving a Corolla or Echo where the ride height is very disproportionate to the size of the car.

Where are the people complaining about the 4x4 suspension in the Cobalt? Those wheel to fender gaps are rediculous!

That's pretty bad, CSpec. They had to get the price as low as possible somehow but it does take away from the overall package.

you can still adjust the seat on the 500 so its not that high. plus in that case, you have acres of headroom.

most folks don't want to sit sports car low in a car anymore, that's parly why SUV's became so popular.

and, that's why Ford has it figured out. Give the Fusion the lower seat, and the 500 the higher seat, and let folks pick. Edited by regfootball
