Mazda Rx7 returns for 2010

Recommended Posts

What does this mean for the RX-8? Death?

I remember hearing reports originally when the RX8 came out that the RX7 was going to follow soon after - the RX7 would be the sports car, and the RX8 the luxury car. RX7 would be a true coupe, light with not many options while RX8 would be the 2+2 "coupe" with the normal amenities.

Now that the RX8 is going to be that old when the RX7 comes out though, I'm not sure.

I say they keep both.... it's like saying the big old Thunderbird would

take away form Mustang sales in the '90s, they're different products.

If Mazda were to keep all three (RX5,7,and 8) it would certainly poish their zoom-zoom image. The 7 & 8 could overlap for a cople of years and the 8 killed when it falters. I guess we will have to wait for clarification.

keep both but seriously mazda needs to give up the wankel unless they can fix oil and gas consumption issues.

Yup, who wants to haul around 2 cases of oil in their trunk everyday? Although,if you drove your RX8 in the winter this would be a very good traction aid.

There's nothing to FIX.... that's Rotary motors for ya.

There's no "rings" in the motor, but they have blade seals.

today's customer wants an engine that does not burn any oil. this ain't no 2 stroke.

today's customer wants torque with such crappy mpg or at least for the car to get decent mpg. especially considering the tiny displacement.

RX7s were built to rev to the moon. The seals weren't though.

I never much liked the RX8, not a terrible car, but the styling just wasn't my cup-o-tea.

Egads. I went to the link and looked at the pic. Is THAT the front end?

Does anybody seriously like it?

The rest of the car deserves better IMO....

The headlights are straight off the Riviera concept, but I think it looks good.

Is this the Riv concept you are thinking of?

The Mazda concept looks great in profile, but that nose is flat hideous.

And what's with the addiction to the rotary? It makes Mazda look quirkier than Saab.
