Toyota To Debut Fuel-Cell Concept Vehicle

8 posts in this topic

Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it will unveil a new concept model for environmentally friendly fuel-cell hybrid vehicles that emit only water, at the Tokyo Motor Show beginning later this month. The Fine-X passenger vehicle employs Toyota's fuel-cell hybrid system that requires chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen as fuel to generate electricity. It also features unusually smooth drive thanks to "four-wheel independent drive control and large, steering angle mechanism," the carmaker said. Fuel-cell vehicles are regarded as more ecologically friendly than hybrid electric-gasoline vehicles, while major automakers in the world compete for the development and diffusion of related technologies. Toyota also adopted a "carbon-neutral system" by using plant-based materials for interior and exterior components, it said. The materials grow by absorbing carbon dioxide in the natural environment and would not cause overall addition to the amount of CO2 in the environment when incinerated upon disposal. The 39th Tokyo Motor Show will open to the public on Oct. 22 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture. The Fine-X will be one of 23 Toyota-brand concept and production vehicles, including a new-generation minivan, the Estima Hybrid Concept.

First those damn commercials that say Toyotas are so clean they are going to save the world. Now a fuel cell car that "grows" its own interior. What next?

Yeah, they do. I think Toyota is making a good BS move here. I think GM is ahead of the fuel cell game. For example, where is Honda and Toyota on the stand alone fuel cells for houses and business'....................

As Toyota said of GM: "This is P.R. Engineering at it's finest" and it'll be another war GM will lose. Toyota has the common sense to know that it needs to be the first to really promote mass scale hydrogen research. And since GM HAS not exploited it's research, Toyota will be considered number 1.... Just like in the hybrid field with the hybrid buses vs. the piece of junk Prius.

Why doesn't GM just remind everyone that they showed that "skate-board," w/ hydrogen technology, years ago! (that thing was using hydrogen, right?)
