Spied: Saab 9-4X mule

09/18/07, 07:31am, EDT

Spy photographers have spotted a test mule for the upcoming Saab 9-4X. Designed in a joint effort between engineers in Russelsheim, Germany, and the Trollhattan, Sweden, the 9-4X — and a yet to be named Cadillac model — rides on a Theta/Epsilon 2 architecture.

As we reported earlier, both models will be made in Mexico with a range of gasoline and one diesel engine. Both vehicles will be exported to the U.S. and Europe. The 9-4X model will feature Saab's XWD all-wheel drive system.

The introduction of the 9-4X follows Saab's plan to offer more crossover vehicles. Look for the 9-4X to be joined by a larger CUV after its initial launch.

Our sources expect a January debut for the 9-4X at the Detroit Auto Show with sales starting in the fall of 2009 as a 2010 model.
