LORDSTOWN — The Global Gamma is coming to the General Motors Corp. Lordstown Complex for the 2010 model year, with the Global Alpha arriving for the 2011 model year, according to a union flyer issued to workers this afternoon.

The cars will replace the plant’s current Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 small cars, which are due to end production in June 2009.

The complex then will switch to the Gamma, which is a four-door notch back, according to the flier from United Auto Workers Local 1112. The Alpha will have two body styles.

FLIER DETAILS:
Below is the synopsis of the tentative labor contract between General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers, according to the flyer issued Friday afternoon by UAW Local 1112 to members in the Complex’s East assembly plant:
GM committed to maintaining U.S. manufacturing base:

– There will be a total moratorium on outsourcing for the length of the agreement. Additionally GM has committed to insource over 3,000 jobs back into the U.S. system.
Economic Gains
– Over the course of the 4 year agreement, the average employee will realize gains of approximately $13,000, including the $3,000 signing bonus and two 3% lump sum and one 4% lump sum raises.

Yeah, the Cobalt is staying on Delta ("Delta II" to be exact). All this is saying is that Alpha and Gamma vehicles are going to be produced at Lordstown instead of Delta vehicles. It sounds like we are getting a coupe and sedan off of Alpha, I would guess it's a Pontiac. I can't see them producing a Cadillac at a rather old plant that is also going to be producing the Aveo.

The details of this contract makes me want to vomit... particularly in the PDF document link above. Most of it is marketing spin focused on justifying the very existence of the union.

You always post interesting stuff!

That page 11 =

Some interesting stuff for us to have fun discussing:

Global Epsilon Chevrolet - Epica replacement on swb Epsilon?

CTS Wagon and Coupe - YAY! :)

Zeta products (two styles) - If Impala and Camaro go to Canada as has been talked about, does this mean 2 Cadillacs? Swb and Lwb STS replacement?

A couple of clarifications needed, as far as anyone knows:

* Fairfax, Kan. — Chevrolet Malibu and Saturn Aura continue until 2011, Global Epsilon Buick and Saturn beginning in 2009, Chevrolet large 4-door notchback beginning in 2010.

Impala? :ohyeah:

* Lansing, Mich., Grand River — Cadillac CTS, Cadillac STS and Cadillac SRX continue through 2009, Cadillac CTS wagon and Cadillac CTS coupe beginning in 2009, Zeta products (two styles) beginning in 2011.

STS/DTS replacement and... good lookin out, Griff. I forgot about the Lucerne.

This board acts up... I contend that I was the first to reply to this, but I got a 500 Error.

So what is Global Delta MPV7 at Hamtramck starting in 2009 . I assume this is not the Cobalt/G5/Astra on Delta 2 ? In that list , it looks like the Cobalts are gonna be coming outa Mexico .

XLR is in dire need of a refresh, the shape is good, but needs a new grille, better interior and more power, I hope they address that before 2012. DTS and Lucerne until 2010? They are really letting those drag out, although the G6 is worse, that car is cheap and dated now, I can't wait to see how bad it is in 2012. It'll be sad to see the SRX go, a CTS wagon is a bad idea, no one will miss the STS. I am curious to see the execution of the Alpha and Zeta cars, it is a shame they are so far away, BMW will be on their next generation 5 and 7 series by then.

You got it.

I assume this is how GM is going to make money on those small cars.....

And it's only going to be Astra/Cobalt . The G5 will be gone-and the HHR will be too...unless the demand makes it worth while.

And the Trucklet Twins are gone too-if they plan to continue to have a small truck-chances are they will be imported.

These last set of trucks were a disaster- people bought more used S-10s than these trucks... :nono:

One last tidbit-though this could be more rumor at this point-The Cobalt name may be dropped as well-more to the fact that GM just couldn't shake the stink of the Cavalier off of it.... :( Maybe something more euro?

of course not, they will of course look to their roots and call it one of four names(alphanumeric order): Chevette, Metro, Nova, or of course the Vega

Nova actually might be a decent name of a cobalt sized alpha (rwd) since a nova was smaller then the malibu

uh.... so which is it?

either they're the same product and it's to throw off the general product. Or maybe it's 2 different chevy lambdas?

EDIT: So the malibu production is being moved? So they can make an older epsilon product alongside the new AURA and Lacrosse? or are they different lines there. and what is this mysterious notchback?

No va=doesn't go, its two words. Click

regaurdless.. it is still no joke that it disrupted sales because of a poorly chosen name... it sold well in the states but south america and central america was really not the car for them...

I mean honnestly, there are plenty of bad names out there... I remember when the focus came out, everyone made fun of the name, because no one wanted to "focus" on its apperance.

I forgot what we said about the echo, but that was a bad name too

Or why would you buy a Foriegn Jeep... when you could buy a regular Jeep...???
