Quiz: How well do you know the United States?

Recommended Posts

I scored 92%. Missed the constitution year also.. 1776 was the Declaration of Independence..I had forgotten that the Constitution came 11 years later. I missed the # of years Senators are elected for...thought it was 4.

Here are 25 questions from the new USA 100 question naturalization test. If this is the harder test, I'd hate to see the easy test. I think my Beagle could pass both test.

Take The Test: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21019797/

I remember at my dealership lots of people had books and were trying to memorize them

Apparently this ones harder, cause i got a couple wrong... i dont even remember reading the how many years do the represenatives get... lol apparently i put 2... but i know thats not true

and the other, i said the supreme court had 12 cause i remember it being bigger then 9... thought it was more like 11 or 13 thou...

Whoops, 96%. You'd think I know what year the Constitution was written.

the constitution was ratified by all 13 colonies 13 years after independance... originally they wanted to elect GW as king of the united states... and he refused because thats what we just fought away... but it was written some 11 years later... took a while to get all the states to agree to it Edited by Newbiewar

They need an essay section asking 'What exactly about your country sucks so bad that you were compelled to move?' Tell me that wouldn't be a fun read.

I dont know about the rest of the country... but i know in cali, everything is in whatever language you need it to be in :banghead::pbjtime:

and i think it used to have an essay section but not any more..

would be nice to have an essay section with regaurd to how they are going to help the ecconomy, supporting its country is part of living under its laws

LOL

My answer would be:

Post-communism I love Slovakia but there are 99.9% less 1969 Camaros, 1959 Buicks & 1936 Pontiacs there.

And gas is even MORE expensive!

They were not colonies after independance, they were states. :smilewide:

this is untrue...

the states were not united until 1989, when gw had his first presidency...

obviously you are correct they werent colonies any more because the british lost control of them...

at first they were called the united colonies, and "Congress of the United Colonies" was a name used from 1974-1981 I dont know when the term States actually took over, but it wasnt July 5th...

I know you set the question in a lighter note.

Nation is a congregation of people who are brought together for commonness of land, or ideology, or feelings. Just because you are born in one country and have an idea of being a citizen of other country legally does not make them more alien than people who were born in the country.

The same question could have been asked 400 years ago to all those who ran away their countries to come to United States. What makes it different for the people who come to USA legally? As a matter of fact, most of those who came 400 years ago did not come here legally. All the advantage of the people born here are that they were lucky that their ancestors came here before ones seeking naturalization now.

So as far those who naturalize love, respect, follow the law and tradition, contribute to United States just as much as ones born here, I think they have as much right to be US citizens. Asking them such questions is nothing but ignorance and rudeness of our society.

United States was not formed by one race, religion, natives, which country can boast that? Most of us were born here from alien parents, who traveled to this nation just as much as the people who currently seek naturalization. And to ask them questions like those, just does not stand in the spirit of democracy that we preach.

I think it's a lot harder now than it was in the '90s, when all my grandparents did it. They said back then the evaluators were friendly old men who were lenient and gave hints. One of them even took out a quarter so my grandfather could blurt out "Qiaozhi Huashengdun!" and pass the test.

so politically correct...

If I had written 'foreigner', I would have been reminded of the music band :yuck:

I can always re-write it as '84%: Not bad for someone who isn't American and doesn't live in the US, eh?'

BTW - why are you going to Kuwait? Military duty?

Here is the header on the Declaration of Independance.

(Adopted by Congress on July 4, 1776)

The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America

Doesn't say The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United Colonies of America, now, does it? :AH-HA_wink:

The president in 1989 was George, but it was Bush not Washington! :rotflmao:

"Congress of the United Colonies" was a name used from 1974-1981"

Congress never used that name in the 1970's to the 1980's, Lord is this what they teach you in school now, no wonder the USA is going to hell in a handbasket!

Ditto --

however,

(1) thought representatives served 4 years instead of 2,

and

(2) forgot how many amendments the Constitution had

Take exception with 2 questions:

Question 5 - yes, we supposedly have a market economy, but it's not a pure market economy...whenever you have ANY type of transfer payment (social security, unemployment, food stamps), it is a socialist economy

Question 13 - when the president is unable to serve, the FIRST LADY steps in.... ....as we will probably see
